Raasted Imperial Stout

Raasted Imperial Stout

3.3 Bottle split with 77ships Head: none Colour: dark brown Smell: bread, red wine, vanila, coffee, alcohol, pumpernickel Taste: coffee, soft malts, raw coffee beans, and heavly roasted malts, end is yeasty and ashy, quite nice !
3.8 0.5l bottle courtesy of Inbreak and shared with The Great Tasting Crew. Expiration date was 2 years ago and it has been perfectly stored since then. This one is black as The Black Adder and it has a small bubbly sidesticking chocolate head. Lovely sweet roasted aroma with lost of chocolate and leather, vanilla and some coffee. It has a soft carbonation level and a silky oily mouthfeel. Deep roasted chocolaty and sweet flavors in this one. It’s almost ashy and sticky with some nice oxidized tones in the background. Ends with a gigantic chocolate finish and continues with this in a everlasting aftertaste. Really interesting flavors. Thanks for sharing Kai Sindre! 30.01.2011
4.1 Bottle @ Monk’s Porter House. Black pour, very thin tan head. Aroma of licorice, burnt malts, red fruits and chocolate. Flavor is bitter, roasted and spicy. Nicely burnt and well balanced. Great brew.
3.7 37.5 ml bottle @ home, shared with Belgbeergeek – thx to him: (A) black with pretty much no head (whatever head there is very briefly is bordeaux coloured) – (S) slight burned malts, dark sugar, coffee (ice cold coffee), dark fruits – (T) cold coffee (touch dominating), dark malts, slightly bitter upfront, slight burned malts, dark fruits & brown sugar going into a touch vinous aftertaste, vinous wild berries which don’t really feels meant – (B) touch oily, cold coffee, soft carb. – ok in a genre that is heavily loaded including many excellent examples
3.9 500ml bottle pours black in color with a finger of dark tan head that left some thin lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted malts and dark chocolates with hints of coffee and citrus hops. Taste is much like the aroma with a nice balance between the sweet and bitter. Medium to full body with light carbonation. This is quite a complex stout and was a very enjoyable tasting experience.
4.1 Bottle. Black with a porous brown head. Aroma: chocolate liqueur, sweet licorice, slightly vinous, maybe honey, citrusy hops. Taste: cocoa, licorice, some soy sauce, cold coffee, burnt rubber, citrus, roasted. Finish has cocoa and grapefruit bitterness. Full-bodied. Quite complex and very nice.
3.7 Bottle, courtesy of Inbreak and shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew. This used to be widely available in Norway through our government strong alcoholic beverage outlet chain "Vinmonopolet", but slipped away from me just as I was gettin’ warm on Ratebeer, going through their stock and rating everything I could get my hands on. So for me, this is a "missing link" of sorts. At least it feels that way. :-P Ooops, sorry: on with the rating - pitch black body, big caramel head. Nice. Aroma is licorice, coffee, black berries and hints of wood and leather. Taste is coffee tones, licorice and hints of dark malts, black berries and leather. Due to cellaring (can’t remember the vintage, but it’s more than 2 years old) it’s well integrated and slightly oxidized, but carries its age well. Mellow, creamy and very good.
3.8 At the warm tasting, thanks DSG, pours opaque black with a small head, aroma of nuts, whiskey, brandy, almonds, chocolate liquor, flavor of coffee, nuts, nice bitterness, medium to full bodied, sticky, very nice.
3.6 Bottle sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks DSG. Pours black opaque. Nose: doppelbock-like: alcohol, some chocolate and raisins. Mouth: roast, grain, alcohol. Flat, full body, oily texture with an alcoholic finish. Alright.
3.6 Bottle shared at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks Jacob for this bottle! Black-colored with no head. Alcoholic chocolate aroma with some dark fruit liqueur-like notes. Sweet chocolaty flavor with light fruity notes and a drier roasty finish with some coffee. Flat, full-bodied and oily. Pretty nice.
3.7 2011-01-29 - shared by jerc & mabel with me and blankboy. 375ml corked bottle. Near-opaque black (red at the edges) with a diminishing creamy light brown head. Aroma of alcohol, herbal bitterness with some nougat sweetness, heavy cloying deep roast malt but oddly a muted aroma for all that. Taste is nice - a bit boozy, with all the aroma character plus some fresh herbal bitterness, but it seems to gel better in the taste. Thick and creamy a bit boozy/astringent/dry, light carbonation, with a long bitter nutshell finish.
3.8 (50cl bottle) Pours an opaque black body with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, and ash. Flavor of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, grapefruit, and ash.
3.6 Faske 375 ml. All black beer with heads of significance. Sweet smell of chocolate, dark fruit, toasted malt and alcohol. Sweet taste of roasted malt, licorice and a bit of alcohol. Medium dry mouthfeel and aftertaste
3.6 375 ml bottle courtesy of a trade with Rasmus40. Pours black with virtually no head and leaves no lace. Very pleasant aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, roasted malt and some alcohol vapors. The flavor is quite different than the aroma and is more centered on the roasted malt with licorice (particularly as the beer warms), orange, chocolate, and a bit of alcohol. Finish is a bit ashy and dry. The mouthfeel is just a bit slick I think mostly due to the lack of carbonation. Medium-full bodied.
3.5 375 ml bottle @ The Rover on December 3. Sampled courtesy of Stefan K. Pours oily black with no head. Smells is big with lots of milk chocolate, liquorice, roasted malts and alcohol. Taste is roasted malts, alcohol, vanilla and sweet liquorice. Finish is dry with bitter chocolate. There’s no CO2 so bottle might be a bit bad.
4.0 22-OCT-2011, bottle @home, from "Barleywine". Pours very dark, clear brown with no head at all. Nose is coffee, well espresso, and chocolate. Almost barrel aged notes. Taste is sweet coffee, and chocolate. Some malty bitterness but low on bitter hops. Long sweet roasted ending with some hops on flat oily body. Totally flat. Disappointing. Must be a flaw. Too old? Bottle says 01/08/15. No help there. Fine brew except for the lack in carbonation.
3.6 Bottle at SBWF, October 6, 2011. Black with a minimal tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, licorice, coffee and resin. Taste of hops, roasted malt, licorice and coffee. Good but maybe a little on the thin side.
3.6 (37.5 cl bottle; BBD: August 26th 2011) Pours deep black, softly carbonated with medium, coffee head and some lace even if the head dissipitates relatively quickly. Aroma is chocolate and toasted malt with maybe a hint of grassy hops. Oily texture, medium-bodied with a dry, bitter finish. Taste is dark, moderately bitter with notes of toasted malt. Girlfriend says: "It’s good. It’s like very bitter chocolate."
3.6 Black color with a fine brown head. Roasted aroma. Very dark and roasted taste.
3.6 Pours almost black, no head. Aroma is toffee, chocolate and a little coffee. Taste is balanced between roasted maltiness, alcohol and bitterness. Aftertaste is long and quite bitter, distinct notes of dark chocolate.
3.7 Bottle generously shared during the RBSG grand tasting. Pours a dark chocolate brown. Lovely aroma that’s a blend of dark chocolate, marshmallow, and whisky. Flavor is strong of chocolate liqueur with notes of toasted coconut. Syrupy body with a rum and chocolate finish. Massive brew that’s quite good.
3.8 Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is vanilla, dark roasted malts, dark dried fruits and liquorice. Taste add some more liquorish notes, more chocolate and some toffee. Mouthfeel is dry. Nice indeed.
4.0 Bottle 375ml @ home Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, licorice, coffee and fruity hops. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is flat.
4.4 Black with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and rather hoppy - grapefruit. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and bitter finish with warming alcohol. Full bodied and oily. 260810
9/11/11/13/12/12
4.2 Bottle: Thanks to Fonefan. Nice small, pretty vast brown foamy head on top of a black beer. Smell is a wonderfull mix of sweets, vanilla, lemon, hops, flowers, vanilla sugar, pastry, flowers, roasted malts, liquorice and a hint of berries. Taste is a bit strange but interesting mix of freshness and liquorice: fruits, lemon, vanilla, hops, flowers, liquorice, coffee, roasted malts, light tarry and a light hint of spices. Bitter aftertaste of grass, coffee, sweets, light dry and a hint of warmth. Medium to low carbo, medium to full body and a soft mouthfeel. Light watery texture.
3.8 Bottle [375ml] shared with HogTownHarry, jerc & mabel -- c/o j&m. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a spare diminishing foamy tan head. Nice aroma of roasted malt, leafy hops, coffee and some light lactic notes. Flavour of coffee, light leafy hops and roasted malt -- it’s quite roasty and has a very bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel, average bodied. A very good Impy Stout, quite nice.
3.8 [3581-20110129] 375mL bottle. Fragrant and slightly burnt roasted malt aroma. Black body with a quick foamy tan head. Roasted coffee malt flavour has a sweet candy-like bitter aftertaste. Full body has a little bitter tang to it. Good, interesting palate. (8+/3/8/4/15) 3.8 (w/ blankboy, HogTownHarry, jerc)
3.5 It pours a jet black color with a thin ring of tan head. It has a vast amount of carbonation. On the nose I am getting some coffee notes but there is a strong alcohol presence. The flavor I am getting some roasted malt, coffee, some hints of chocolate and how could I forget the vanilla. I find the strong alcohol is too dominating for me.It is unbalanced due to the face that there is not enough things upfront. There is nothing masking the high Abv. It finishes with some bitterness but there is a warm lingering alcohol. I sampled this from a nice sniffer glass and it took me for ever to finish it. I find just another ok beer from these guys.
3.7 2011-01-29. Black body leaves an oily film on the glass, modest foamy tan head. 4+ Modest roasty aroma, light alcohol, sweet malt. 7+ Flaovur is fairly bitter, both from a bit of roast and a good helping of hoppy bitterness. Malt core takes a back seat to the hops, but it has a lovely caramel/sweet malt moment in the middle somewhere. 7+ Smooth average palate. An enjoyable imperial stout, somewhat simplistic at times but fairly drinkable. Bottle via trade with Vertical Bacon Strips
