Rahr & Sons Rahrs Red

Rahr & Sons Rahrs Red

Rahr's Red is a delicious, medium-bodied amber beer. As it crosses over your tongue, you'll notice a bit of caramel-like malt character. You'll also notice a slight hops bitterness-there to remind you that despite its subtle flavoring Rahr's Red is a Texas beer.

3.0 It is a dull red in color with no head or lacing. Average carbonation. Has some nutty aftertaste. Tastes of grass, hay, and leather.
2.2 Every so slightly hazy, reddish amber... Coarse white head with cascading lace. Aroma was wimpy, some sweet grainy malt, perhaps apricot. Not much punch at all in the flavor. Tastes like something you’d get at BJ’s or another chain brewhouse.....some slightly toasty malts, bread. It just sort of dies in your mouth.
2.7 Amber in color... Caramel bready malt nose... Flavor is grains, caramel and toasted malts, zero complexity... Slightly astringent finish... Underwhelming
2.7 Bottle. Amber pour with a white clingy head. Dusty earthy malts. Just another boring amber.
2.5 12oz Flasche als "Buffalo Butt Beer". Hellbraune Farbe, wenig Schaum . Karamell und Malz Geruch und Geschmack. Recht süss.
2.5 Pours a cloudy amber, decent lacing. Bready, malty aromas. Very sweet, too much so, lots of caramel. Not the greatest.
3.6 Light brown with a slight orange tinge. Off-white head. Toasted malt aroma. Medium body. A little bit of a nutty flavor. Length is short but finish is clean. Well made.
3.0 Clear red amber color, lacing off-white foam head. Caramel aroma and light bitter caramel taste. No aftertaste lasting noticable. (Dallas 201505)
2.9 Irving, TX - Las Colinas Beverage - 12 oz can - labeled as Buffalo Butt. Slightly murky, dark amber pour, slight off-white head. Slightly sweet caramel like aroma, slight hard candy notes. Flavor has some nuttiness, a bit of caramel sweetness, some dates and raisin sweetness. Mouthfeel is thick enough.
3.1 Bronze pour, thin but tight off white head. Nose is roasted malt. Bittersweet. Middle is caramel and bark. Finish is smooth malt.
3.3 Bottle: Poured an orange brown with off white head. Aroma is sweet toffee and malt. Taste is nice sweet malts and full body.
3.0 On tap at the DFW Marriot. Pours a hazy amber with very thin head. Aroma is slight toffee slight malt. Flavor is hoppy bitterness with some black pepper. Served much too cold. Decent beer.
2.9 Okay amber lager. no head and barely any aroma. malts on the tongue with a bit of a sharp finish. just adequate.
3.1 Pleasant little beer. Faintly malty aroma. Light copper color with a fizzy white head. Medium weight with good carbination. Malty up front with a slight roasted character and a nice mild hoppy finish.
1.3 Bland and watery. More like iced tea than beer. Rahr screwed the pooch again. Dud! Score: F-
3.2 Rahr & Sons Texas Red has a medium-to-thin, cream-colored head, a clear, rust-red, bubbly appearance, and some lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of mild, sweet, tea-like breadiness, and the flavor is of sweet bread crust, tea, and very subtle hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Rahr & Sons Texas Red finishes crisp and refreshing. RJT
2.5 Not my fav but not bad. Its a red amber color with thin off wehite head. Its got too much caramel grain and some rye I think. Its a lil too much and reds are slipping as one of my favorite style due to use of too much of these bits in most offerings out there. Its tasty but I couldnt drink more than 2 or 3
3.0 Pours a clear red color with off-white head. Caramel malts and a little pine on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with more malt.
2.9 12 oz bottle. Poured a clear dark amber with a thin cream top. Taste of caramel malts, slight fig and a little leather. Medium carbonation, medium body.
2.8 Reddish amber with very thin white head. Nice aroma, but the flavor was just okay.
3.2 Serving: from tap at Tolbert’s Restaurant. Aroma: moderate caramel malt. Appearance: small, creamy, off-white, initial head with good lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Hazy, dark-orange body. Taste: lightly sweet initial flavor and finish with average duration. Palate: light-to-medium body, watery texture and soft carbonation. Overall: good flavor and easy to drink.
2.5 OK but nothing to write home about. Best option of a very short draft list with Sam Adams, Blue Moon and Stella.
3.1 For some amber color with a small tan head. Light and easy drinking was hoping for a little more malt character.
3.1 A rich red in appearance with a sweet and floral aroma. Taste like a marzen octoberfest style beer to me but a little on the bitter side. Overall a good malty and sweet beer better than the native shiner to me.
3.0 Not the worst representation of a "red". Nice malt & caramel flavors, looks great in the glass but leaves you a bit wanting in the end. Overall, however, way better than most of the crap that passes for beer in an airport.
3.3 Reddish amber with a thin tan head. Aroma of sweet malt with medium body. The hops are noticeable with some slight bitterness. Clean crisp finish.
3.0 12 oz bottle This was enjoyed first at Billy Bob’s at the stockyards in Ft Worth. At a HP meeting in Ft Worth this was the beer served also at the Omni. The amber lager poured red-amber color with a small head. Aroma of caramel malts and modest hops. This beer is also called Buffalo Butt with a medium body and average carbonation. the amber lager has some bitterness, but not in a big way. Excellent with ribs and other Texas fare.
3.3 This may just be my favorite Texas amber lager. Plus, how can you beat a herd of longhorns on a beer label? Medium-dark orange/amber in color, this amber is bold, but bright with a very light brown/beige colored head and heavy, steady carbonation. Its aroma is just what you’d expect of an amber: lots of caramel and a great-matched bouquet of hops. Not too sweet, not too bitter, but just enough of both. It’s far from cloying with as much caramel as is in this, with more of a lighter body and a touch of burnt caramel, thankfully overriding that signature lager undertone. It has a full, attractive, sweet and earthy palate that ends very clean for a lager and leaves a faint whisper of fermented, malty sweetness in the mouth. Very nice for an amber lager! I’m disappointed that it gets such low reviews from other driners, though.
3.6 Had as Texas Red. Pours a slightly hazy mahogany with a thin eggshell head. Malty aroma has a cloves note and a hint of hops. Flavor features malty, cloves, hay, and subtle caramel notes. Smooth, firm, fizzy mouthfeel rounds out a decent beer.
3.5 Thin caramel malt character accompanied with a carbonation bite. Goes down easy. Tastes good, but kind of bland--but it’s what one would expect from 141 calories. It really started to grow on me after a couple bottles.
