Railway City Dead Elephant Ale

Railway City Dead Elephant Ale

A full bodied golden Pale Ale which pours with a linen white medium density head leaving spider web lace on the glass. On the palate the flavour is sweet fruity malts up front (apricot, mango) with a bit of candy, and slight grassy notes which fall away to reveal a hint of biscuit with rather pleasant grapefruit and perfume undertones. This is a hop bomb, there is no doubt. To the nose there is a mild malt aroma which accentuates the robust floral bouquet which is derived from the hops.

Medium full bodied ale with pleasant lingering hop finish.

6.8 % alcohol by volume, IBU’s 46.6

(Rating #7142)
2.8 473 ml can. 6.5%. BB 2017/02/06. (LCBO) Sault Ste Marie, ON. Slightly cloudy golden color with a small foamy white head. Apricot, wet paper, fruity sweetness and some malt in the aroma. The flavor is stale hops, mild bitterness, some fruitiness and malt. No fresh.
3.3 Fruity malts and a bit of pine up front. It tastes like they tried for an American IPA and ended up a little more British-y. It is quite drinkable, but at 47 IBU, it’s no hop bomb
3.4 Citrus aroma. Clear amber colour. Malty front with that transition into fruity flavours; succinct bitter finish. Medium body with a lively carbonation. Solid and drinkable.
3.1 Aroma:caramel,light pine hops.... appearance:Dark orange,good foam head... Flavor:light caramel,light pine hops...
3.7 Pours orange amber with a white head that laces the glass. Aroma is citrus and floral hops. Good flavour balance of malts and hops with a decent bitterness. All around good beer.
3.2 50 cl can. Pours a cloudy amber with full white head. Aroma of pine, grass and hint of citrus. Taste is bitter and a little like Murphys oil soap smells. Palate has long cleaner type aftertaste. Overall it is okay, but I would choose others before this one.
3.0 Slightly hazy appearance with a weak malt aroma but tastes better than that. Could drink another one.
2.9 On tap @ Caper's Belleville. Pours a clear gold with a medium white head. Aromas are fruity malts a bs some pine resin. Tastes are acidic, bitter, and a little phenolic. Moderate carbonation, medium body, long resin finish. Struggled a little with what I perceived as a phenolic taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
2.4 Can from LCBO, 6.5%. Near clear copper with a small head. The aroma is, oh my, very strange, floral, even obnoxiously so. Or rather, not floral, cause I don’t mind the smell of flowers, but... well, I don’t have words to describe it. Raspberry? The flavour is similar, but more refrained in that deparment. It’s citric bitter and malty sweet. But there’s no escape from the strangeness so out of place in an IPA. Body and carbonation around medium, palate slightly oily. Overall? Bad. Not sure what it is supposed to be. But it’s not what I’d consider a good beer.
3.8 CaN provided by Scott, i don’t think he is a spy .. . Amber .. Foam is strong like Arnold .. Resin, dried leaves, rocks on a car, and grass .. Mouth is good, spot on finish .. . Traffic jams should be called car rapings.
0.5 Apparently in St Thomas, this is an IPA. Someone should explain to them that doesn’t stand for Industrial Product Adjunct. Calling it dismal... but I’m sure there’s a better word. Not good
3.7 Tapped at a pub I cannot remember the name in Gananoque/Canada. Overall a very good IPA. Golden, copper clear color. White head that was gone very quickly? Aroma of floral hops, bitter fruits. Taste is a good balance of malt and floral hops with a good bitter hops finish. Medium carbonation. Refreshing. Good.
3.3 Draught @ Stout Irish Pub, Toronto. Pours clear golden with small white head. Clear aroma of yeast and hops, with some malty touches. Sweetish, malty flavour with notes of yeast and bitter, hoppy touches. Rough and estery aftertaste. Okay but nothing really mind-blowing.
3.1 16oz can. Offwhite-gold. A-sweet med malt-honey/caramel, some pine. T-pine hops, lots of sweet med malt.
3.7 Pours a very large amount of foamy off-white head. Medium amber colour. Ok lacing. Aroma of various malts and hops, grainy. Pretty strong hoppy taste with the usual citrus flavours standing out. Pretty good stuff.
4.2 A nice IPA that is aromatic and hop forward. Not over the top and in your face with hop bitterness. In fact has a nice hop bite with true citrus bitterness.
2.9 Pours clear honey gold with a big fluffy white head. Citrus nose, with sweet grass and hay notes. Flavour is has some nice bitter rounded notes. Very light body. Palate is overtly simple. Mildly citric and piney hops, sitting on top of a cheerio cereal scented bulk. But the overall finish is very grainy and unclean.
2.7 Unfiltered orange in appearance with a medium white head that leaves little lacing behind. Aromas are of oranges soaked in caramel. Tastes are similar. A decent balance of caramel malts and citrus hops, but unfortunately both are lackluster, and fail to pop in the nose or on the palate. This came as part of the Railway City Holiday Gift Pack, but I’d never buy it again as an individual beer.
3.4 473 ml can from the LCBO. Appearance: Pours a clear light copper colour with a couple fingers of dense white head with great retention. Leaves a fair bit of lacing. Aroma: Pine, hops, straw, bit of malt. Flavours: Grapefruit, pineapple, yeast, granny smith apples, bit of biscuit. Mouthfeel: Smooth and thin with moderate carbonation. Overall: A decent IPA with the typical citrus aromas and grapefruit flavour. This one is a bit bitter and thin for me to really like it but it is quite drinkable.
3.2 Can. Pours a golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty citrus hoppy aroma. Fruity malty citrus hoppy flavor. Has a fruity malty citrus hoppy finish.
4.1 A golden Pale Ale with a thin white head and lacing. Fruity with some bitterness. Great tasting, very satisfying beer.
3.0 500ml bottle from the LCBO in Stratford, Ontario. Clear golden amber in colour with a thin dissipating white head, some light patchy lacing. The aroma is grainy, some sweetness, floral with just a bit of orange citrus. The flavor is moderately sweet, some bitterness, orange citrus, light grapefruit, toasted pale malts. Sweet mouthfeel, medium/light body, moderate carbonation. Finishes medium length, some bitterness and citrus. It’s just okay to me.
3.5 This is one of several beers I’ve tried lately that seem to be better than I remember. Pour is clear gold with a clean white cap that sticks around just as long as a good party guest should. Nose is faint, but pleasant. Bread, apricot, citrusy/floral hops and a bit of pine. Taste is bready malt with a touch of fruity sweetness, with some light lemon/orange. This stuff is surprisingly carbonated, a bit thin, and the finish isn’t quite as bitter as I’d like, but overall it’s still better than I remember (I believe they call that damning with faint praise).
2.1 Not so bad considering its IPA, or its suppose to be, but not my favorite at all. Pours clear amber, white head. Nose is heavy on the crystal malt, with citrus hops in the background. Flavour is again mostly crystal malt with some floral, mineral water.
3.0 473 mL can. Pours light amber with a thin white head. Biscuity malt on the nose with some mild stone fruit, English toffee. Malty sweet, finishes just barely bitter with some piney-resinous tones. Moderate plus body with average carbonation. Averageish.
3.4 473ml can. Pours a clear, golden/caramel with a one finger, eggshell head. Aroma has smooth notes of pine, resin, lemon, citrus, and a bit of fruityness. Pretty good. Taste is bitter forward with floral notes, orange citrus, pine, resin, and a drawn out, citrus/bitter aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation. A bit thin in the mouth with a dry finish. Overall netters than I was expecting. Good flavours of citrus, pine, and a touch of resin.
3.1 473 mL can to half-pint glass (shared with the Mrs.). Looks solid; a transparent pale burnt orange with fluffy eggshell head. Smells solid too; fruity and floral hops with a mildly bittersweet backbone. Tastes like it smells, but less robust. Average on the palate with a thinner and mildly bitter mouthfeel. A touch of grain as well. Not bad.
2.9 Can 6.5%. Pours gold with a white head. Aroma is minimal, some lemon and a little biscuity malt. Light to medium body, medium carbonation, thin. Grass, lemon, some metal astringency and a not particularly pleasant aftertaste. poor.
