3.4 Good coffee aroma. On tap at cottonwood. Very dark brown. Good tasting coffee beer m
3.4 Dark brown with a little tan head. Subtle aroma, a little chocolate and toffee. Coffee is more apparent in the taste and finish. Pretty good.
3.8 Draft pint at holiday christmas party. Pours dark black with little head. Aroma of sweet coffee. Smooth coffee and dark roasty taste. Not very bitter or astringent with the coffee flavor which can be predominant in coffee beers. Clean rich mouthfeel with no sticky residue and no bitter coffee aftertaste. This stuff is legit.
3.1 Poured from cask into pintish glass. Aroma is surprisingly sweet. Mouthfeel is cask like with really gentle carbonation and moderately thick.... almost oily. Taste is very sweet and malty, a little roasted. Very enjoyable if simple.
2.8 12 oz bottle in pint glass. No head. Pitch black, nothing happening much on the nose. Kinda like a toned town sweet stout with subtle notes of coffee and dark malts. Somewhat tasty... but I'm looking for a bit more complexity. Sour and bitter finish that seems not in the beer but rather that the carbonation is not right. Just short of the mark. Not quite sessionable but not really worth it to just drink one either if there are other available options.
3.6 caramel, chocolate, coffee, nuts, roasty, toast, resin, grass, herbs, leather, earthy, dough, alcohol, licorice, raisin, woody, vanilla, soy sauce, red, brown, clear, white foam, light sweetness, medium body, slick feel, average carbonation,
3.5 Pours a deep dark brown with almost no head, a bit of carapils could help as it looks a bit tired before I start......aroma of chocolate and overwhelming coffee, with a hint of smoke......taste is much like the aroma a smoked coffee with a hint of chocolate fading into a slightly bitter ending with a medium mouthfeel.
3.2 Dark brown with off white head a little bit of dark chocolate. Strong coffee hues with smokey hint. Good beer!
3.8 On tap. Black with tanned head. Smell is heavy roasted malt with coffee and hints of chocolate. Taste is heavy roasted malt with coffee and chocolate. Dry with medium bitterness and low carbonation.
4.2 Porter. Sweet, toasty, medium roast coffee. Light/breakfast blend coffee color. Once again, med/breakfast blend taste. Firm carbonation. Good porter.
4.3 Really good blend of coffee taste and beer. Good palleable taste. Not burnt coffee or dark chocolate.
3.7 On draught at Freakin’ Frog. Brownish-black color with a medium foamy tan head that recedes steadily. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Light-bodied with a roasty coffee and malt flavor with some chocolate in the background. The finish is sweet with a caramel mocha aftertaste. Above average overall.
4.0 If you like coffee, you’re going to like this one. Pours a nice brown color with off-white head. Coffee, coffee, and some roasted malts on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a nice coffee note.
3.7 [Bottle] Deep, dark brown pour with a dense beige colored head. Abundant roasted coffee aroma with lighter hints of vanilla. Dark roast coffee, dark chocolate and light wood ash in the taste. Nice roasty and mildly acrid finish. Average palate. Pretty good! Tasting notes from 2012.
4.3 Real ale has become one of my favorite brewers. This one was very strong, and had a strong coffee flavor with chocolate caramel. I love my porters so I can’t really say anything bad about it lol.
4.4 Very nice and mild coffee note. Some Carmel notes on the finish. Very smooth could be a sessionable choice
3.5 A delicious and tasty porter courtesy my Secret Santa. Thanks! Aroma was big and coffee. Strong coffee bean with not much else. Blindfolded I would’ve guess I was smelling cold coffee. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a thing off white film for a head. Taste was just as the name suggests. Bold coffee flavors mixed with a roasted malt backbone. Nice carbonation and very full flavored for a beer under 6%
3.2 The Ginger Man, Houston tap: Pours near black with a brownish head. Aroma is chocolate and plenty of coffee, though I was not too impressed by the particular type of coffee. The beer itself was a little sweet, with some light chocolate notes mixed all up in there. Additionally, the body was relatively light.
2.6 Dark brown colored pour. Big tan head that falls quickly and leaves a bit of lacing. A biting acrid aroma with some buried notes of chocolate and coffee way underneath. Sour carbonic bite. Some sugary molasses and a slight bit of chocolate. Tart finish mixed with a sugar syrup feel. Dry, yet overly sweet. Not that good, sadly.
3.7 Black bodied, small light Biscuity, oats, simple classic American hops but mostly a really typical Dutch trekdrop (licorice) aroma. Salty almost. Any way, smooth malty base, certainly full enough for the abv. Nice brew. (On tap at The Liberty Tavern Austin)
3.2 Appearance - black no head Aroma - slight coffee. Not as much as you would think being labeled a coffee beer Mouth - medium silky. Surprisingly silky. Taste - very plain. Not much there. Just straight up traditional porter. Overall - solid but not special.
3.7 Best by 01FEB12 A: pours brownish black with under a finger of off-white foam which falls quickly to a central cap and rim. Dark. No lace. S: smells like coffee (not as strongly as I would have thought), and like a dry porter. Some toasted malts, some soil, a little nuttiness. T: The coffee takes second seat on this beer. The porter is very nutty, almost a burnt cashew tone with some vegetal tones. the coffee comes back around, but in a sweet sense. Finish is a little gauzy. Has a nice creamy taste to it as well. M: Medium bodied with lower carb. Gives it a full bodied feel without feeling heavy or burdensome. Semi dry finish. O: Pretty good, as a coffee porter, I would suggest, but as a porter, I would offer as a decent example. Serving type: bottle 12-09-2011
3.5 Pours a pitch black with a thin tan head. The aroma is mostly dark chocolate and coffee with a hint of malt. Flavor is coffee and caramel, equal parts bitter and sweet. The palate is a little thin for a porter, but it’s what you’d expect from a Texas beer. Overall, not too shabby.
3.5 Draft. Black pour with some tan. Light roasted and coffee flavors. Aroma is light coffee and roasted malt notes.
4.0 Poured from a bottle into my Big Hops sniffer. Dark ruby color with no head or lacing at all. Had an aroma of chocolate, coffee and nuts. No hop smell or anything else. Medium body with a rich, creamy texture. Great coffee taste which would make a great dessert beer.
3.3 Coffee and Carmel notes. Wish there was more creaminess to the porter as it's finishes slightly harsh.
3.7 Smells of caramel and chocolate malts. Black pour with a thin tan head. Medium sweetness and bitterness. Nice creamy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Great Porter.
3.8 Strong coffee flavor start to finish. Drank ice cold and caught a nice toasty caramel flavor on the back end. Wonderful in small doses.
3.9 12oz at my place by myself while playing video games on a Friday night. Pours black with creamy milk chocolate head. aroma is thin, coffee, toasty, caramel. Taste is very nice roasted malt and big coffee. Its too cold to get much else; and I’m not waiting for it to warm up. The night is young.
3.5 12oz bottle. Pours a dark black color with a light tan head. Aroma of bitter roasted coffee, slightly burnt, notes of charred wood and tobacco. Taste is less charred, has some sweet sugary malt in back, a faint touch of wood. Decent blend of coffee and roasted malt. Light body, soft and smooth, assertive carbonation.
