2.5 Appearance: has a small beige head that dissipates quickly, beer is a very hazy amber color" Aroma: very slight malt sweetness, pretty bland and very subtle Taste: slight malt sweetness, has a bitterness that kicks in after that, alcohol Palate: lively carbonation, bitter aftertaste, medium mouthfeel Overall: nothing stands out about this beer, it’s bitter, alcohol seems to be too prominent
4.0 Poured from bottle a slightly hazy amber with a small head. Aroma of barley. Crisp and full on the palette with hints of dough and biscuit. The end is fairly bitter and slightly dry. Excellent! My thanks to a good friend who brought this bottle directly from Texas to Europe for me to taste.
2.9 Pours a clear golden reddish color with a finger thick head that stick around. Not much aroma. Medium mouthfeel with active carbonation. Taste is fresh and pretty hoppy with some rye.
3.2 A definite aroma of rye. Nice malty base that is complemented with a bittering from both the hops and rye.
3.3 Draft at Draft House. Hazy amber color. Aroma of fruit and citrus. Taste is bitter lemons.
3.8 Pours a nice slightly hazy amber color with off-white head. Rye spice, caramel malt, and pine on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with rye spice.
3.8 Hazy amber with thin white head. Hoppy aroma with a little grain. Crisp, medium body. Malty with a nice bitter finish.
2.5 Pours a hazy light brown colour. Aroma of the grains. Flavour is rye spicy with a hint of sweetness and a drying astringency. Finish is at first sweet, then dry.
3.0 Nice over all brew. Crisp, nice body. Bready. Malty but not very sweet. Thanks Tony.
3.3 Amber red glow, looking Appetising. Clear caramel malts , light funk even from the rye. Moderately hopped, going into light fizzy body so not an impressive taste, but rich enough to be nice. It’s decent but a bit odd. (On tap at Easy Tiger Austin)
2.9 On draft. Dark ruby red color characteristic of the style. Flavor is slightly bready, the rye malts seem a little too thin. Not a lot of hop presence. Kind of watery overall. A so-so ryePA.
3.4 Bottle. Thin head. Amber-gold color. Medium body. Aroma is malty and perhaps piney. Well balanced. Finish is a little thin.
3.4 Bottle. Standard looking amber brew. Foamy head. Frothy and full bodied. Sweet overall with a big malt backdrop. Did I mention sweet? (#5236, 8/30/2013)
3.1 Draft at the Whiskey and Rye in the Omni hotel in Ft Worth The ale had poured with a white frothy head and a clear amber. There was some lacing. The aroma was of mild citrus. This is goof APA with some bitter citrus on the tongue. The medium body ale had average carbonation. The finish was smooth with the normal bitterness of a good pale ale. Tthe bitterness was felt on the top of your mouth.
3.5 April 2012. From bottle. Nice pale ale with fruity and malty aromas. Pine, citrus, hops, caramel. Not bad at all.
4.1 Pours a hazy orange with a nice head. Spicy aroma of fruit and pepper. Rye is apparent in the flavor.
3.3 Pours reddish brown with a medium white head. Slight caramel, bready aroma. Sweetness up front, with a good bitterness to the finish. Medium body. The hop finish lingers ever so slightly.
3.6 Comes out of the tap a hazy, barely translucent honey golden with an off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is malty, fruity ad slightly yeasty. Flavor has a malty core and notes of apple, banana, yeast and hops. Firm, lively, tingly mouthfeel rounds it out. Will get you a-howlin’!
3.3 bottle from my summer santa, pours brown with a cream colored head. wet cereal in the nose. taste is balanced and mostly bland with exception of some drying rye.
3.6 Head had fairly large bubbles. Nice amber color with a fruity aroma. Rich flavor with a nice balance of hops.
3.4 A - Pours a semi-hazy copper amber with a 1/2 inch white head that clings to the sides of the glass. S - Fruity esters, melon, citrus, some bready malt, rye grain comes out more as it warms. T - Fruity cereal based malt, some soft orange citrus, rye comes through along with a good dose of biscuit, grain and hops. Turns spicy and almost herbal towards the end finishing quite dry. M - Medium bodied, soft carbonation, creamy lush feel. The malt and rye are showcased nicely, while the hops round of the flavors and help with the finish. This beer delivers what you’d expect from the label. Well done. Serving type: bottle 06-17-2011
3.2 Not a bad ale. Would prefer to see a stronger showing in the rye malt used. Ok session beer. Hops are decent on the palate but lack the necessary aroma.
3.5 Slightly hazy orange pour, off white head (scant). Grain and citrus hops in the nose. Bitter. oily mouth feel, spicy rye, and Northwest hops in the middle. medium bodied and bitter out the back. This was the first rye beer I ever had, maybe a decade ago, and it still is a benchmark for the style.
4.0 Cloudy and golden in color. Decent head. Smells malty and slightly bready. Pronounced citrus also. Smooth flavor with slight bitterness. Very citrusy flavor. Slightly dry finish.
4.1 the winner from the mixed six pack! good feel and the rye is so pleasing, i love this beer
3.1 Bottle to glass. Pale gold with medium head. Spicy floral notes overcome the rye on my palate. And I am not picking up the hoppiness others noted . . . maybe my taste buds are overcome by the atmosphere (or lack of) in this pricey, hotel lobby bar.
4.2 Bottle. Honey, rye, and barley malt aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Honey orange, rye malt, and moderately bitter herbal/orange peel flavor. Nice body. Love the rye - excellent.
3.9 A nice orange color, a bit hazy, with a 1.5 finger head that lasted a long time, very good lacing. Smelled herbal, with very nice rye aromas, a bit of hoppiness, and some grainy and fruity overtones. Quite nice smelling. Tastes rather delicious. Rye graininess is nicely complemented with light fruits, rich, sweet caramel malts, and a light spiciness. Medium to almost full in body. Very rich and creamy, yet still light enough to be almost chuggable. Very lightly bitter aftertaste, which lingers with lightly sweet rye grain flavors. Really drinkable. A class act of a beer.
3.8 A- tan, medium foam AR- rye and citrus M- medium finish, session style T- rye, citrus, and fruit O- my favorite pale ale
3.0 Bottle. Lemony grainy malt aroma. Hazy honey gold with a moderate white head. Lemon, biscuity malt flavor with a spicy/peppery rye and hops finish. Medium body and carbonation.
