Red Stripe Light is D&G’s alternative to the original. It has a smoother taste, and besides having a lower alcohol content, it is also ’less’ of a beer as it comes in 10.5 oz. bottles.

1.1Straw color with a fizzy, diminishing white head. Grass, grain and a hint of malt liquor, add little to this “light” beer aroma. Initial fizzy water flavor. Better than the smell, but not in a beer way. Hints of grain and malt, but the carbonated water flavor is overpowering. I find little use for this liquid. 2/10
1.9Bottled 275 ml at "The Little Pub at the Village", Island Village, Ocho Rios, on January 24, 2015.
Bottle was a long neck and clear if I remember correctly, didn’t look the way the pic currently does on ratebeer.
Clear golden color, fluffy lasting white head. Sweet, sugary, vegetable scent. Weak sweet taste. Thin mouthfeel, low to very low bitterness.
Mainly boring and tasteless, guess I knew that getting it, but was on Jamaica and wanted to try some different local beers and the selection wasn’t really that big!
Tickers gotta tick...
2.111.2 oz. bottle from Cash Wise in Williston. Appearance: finger white head, pale straw, clear, head does not last, no real lacing. Aroma: cereal, light grassy hops, light caramel. Palate: light body, average carbonation, thin texture. Taste: sweet malt, into light bitter hops. Overall, refreshing, but nothing special.
1.7"looks like your typical macro lager. thin feel, at first smell, lots of corn/adjunkty sweetness. nor pleasant, but it fades, and tasted ok, refreshing, if not spectacular. just felt like something new."
2.0Drank out of a pint glass from a 11.2 oz bottle.Smells like Red Stripe. Nice golden color with a lot of carbonation, with a frothy head that consistantly stays. Tastes like nothing... Decent beach day beer.
2.1330ml from a supermarket in Rockley preloading in room 2a for another night of Bajan merriment. Pale and fizzing with lively carbonation and a loose white tuft. Saline sour grain and rice nose like Bud or equivalent. OK weakly lemony flavour with rice softness, rubber and phosphorous taints. Deeper biscuit hints. Empty finish. Redundant pisswatter after 2 buckets of Banks on Carlisle Bay, more Banks, 2 rum and cokes and a cup of tea.
1.2Flaska.
1.6bottle. Pale straw with small head. Indistinguishable from mexican light beers, except this one is from Jamaica. Watery and bland, but not unpleasant.
1.3Rated on 2-18-2011. This bottled beer pours a small very fizzy white head with a very short retention, transparent yellow body, fizzy carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is malt and grain. The taste is lightly sweet, malty and grain. The mouth feel is moderate carbonation and this beer is light-medium bodied. This beer is not good. Plain and simple.
2.6Bottle. Pours brilliant clear yellow with thin white head. Aroma of DMS, corn, slight floral and earthy hops. Taste is very light with corn, sweet malt, and a dry finish. Very light body.
1.8Location: Way too many of these in Jamaica, Dec ’13
Aroma: The nose is adjunct lager corn, some light malts, and not a whole lot else
Appearance: It pours a clear yellow color with a small, fizzy, white head
Flavor: The taste is as minimal as you’d expect, with some corn and light sweetness
Palate: The body is light and fairly watery, way too fizzy, not too much else going on
Overall Impression:
It’s not the worst light adjunct lager out there, but it certainly isn’t leaps and bounds better either. I don’t remember the carbonation being so extreme on bottled tastings, but the draft was a total over-carbonated mess.
2.0Pours crystal clear golden yellow. Liffey white head. Smell of corn and soap. Slightly metallic flavor. Slightly sweet. Not bad for a lite beer.
2.6On vacation in Jamaica. Pours a piss yellow color with a decent white head that dissipates to a slight film around the edge of the glass. Smell is bread, malt, and yeast. Taste follows, with a bit undesirable funk. Light version is a bit more easy drinking. Still wish I could get a decent beer on vacation...
2.4A 0.33l bottle from Whole Foods Market Tribeca. Well, at least it looks like a 0.33l bottle, but it says 11.2 fl oz. No idea what that means. My first pale lager here in the US of A, and it’s not even from the pale lager-country! A crystal clear pale golden body with some small unfiltered particles and a small quickly fading bubbly lager head. Smells of corn really. Boiled corn, soft grainy malts and a little bit of soap. Bah.. Doesn’t taste all that bad actually. Mostly because there is it much taste at all. A little lemony citrus hint is basically what I manage to squeeze out of this one. Really mild and yeah light. Not bad to drink k actually, but it lacks flavor. 20.06.2013
0.5Well, it was exactly what I thought it would be. Watery, nasty swill. Pale yellow pour with a soapy head. Aroma of skunked yard clippings. Drink it fast too because the warmer it gets, the nastier it gets. Drain Pour.
2.523 Jan 2013 and our ship docked at Montego Bay: we hit Doctor Cave Beach for the day. The bar there had small (275ml) clear bottles of this beer available, so I had a couple to keep me cool.
The brew is very light in colour, a pale gold I suppose with no head to see (I drank them from the bottle, no glass).
Slight grainy nose, but nothing much.
The taste was leaning towards hoppy and had a semi-bitter dry finish: I found it refreshing and just what I needed at the time. This is not the srot of beer I’d normally buy, but it was sunny, hot and I was in Jamaica!
2.3Had this at our second annual Easter Beer Hunt. Light bitter taste. Alright, but not something I’d spend more money on.
1.111.2 oz stubby bottle:
Pours clear, dark gold, with a lively white head.
Virtually no aroma...a little grass and grain.
Taste is watery, grain.
Pretty much bereft of all things beer.
Incredibly lacking.
2.012oz stubby. Pours a clear golden color with a small amount of head that fades quickly. Aroma is grassy and somewhat sweet. Taste is sweet, watered down, with a small amount of bitterness.
1.6Bottle shared by brew3crew. Pours a clear bright yellow color with a medium sized white head that is gone quickly. The aroma and flavor has sweet grains, corn with very little else. Cold wet alcohol (and not much of the alcohol).
3.3Actually, the bottle says US but anyway. It was flavourless and not so nice to drink. NOt bad but nt even for a relax in front of tv. Incipit, goldy and that’s it.
1.711.2 oz bottle...whatever that means. Pours a pale yellow/gold color. Hardly an aroma. No hop flavor whatsoever. Goes down like water...I could drink 24 of these and still drive home.
1.9Diddnt even know thìexisted, so i had to try it, gold pour, super thin white head.. Funky aroma, taste is just a plain light crisp lager, would be a good summer light, binge drinking beer, (if it wasnt so expensive anyway).. Ok for a light beer, wont do again,m unless its cheap
1.8Kingston Hall, NY bottle FREE: I had the option of not paying for this beer, which I had not yet rated, so I felt as though I might as well do it. It was pretty much what was expected. Pale beer. Corn and grain aroma. Less sweet than normal red stripe, because there is less beer in this than there is in normal red stripe. It was drinkable though, which is why I chugged this as quickly as I could before leaving Kingston Hall, chea.
1.3Aroma has dominant sweet corn, light hay and light grass. Appearance is light gold with sticky white head. Flavor has some toast, but it’s like veggie toast if such a thing exists; the finish is quite dry, but unpleasantly grassy. Palate is light, thin and fizzy. One of the worst pale lagers I’ve had in some time; thankfully it was a freebie.
1.0This tastes like melted candy canes. Not a good beer, not worth importing.
1.4Almost a finger of head. Clear, (yellow?) almost colorless body.
Strong metallic smell. Not appealing.
Metallic taste too. Really watery. A metallic bitter at the end. Not enjoyable.
Low carbonation. Light body, but not crisp.
Does anyone really drink this for real?
2.2It is what it is if you are looking for a beer that will quench your thirst on a hot day it will. If you want some great beer why did you buy a light lager. Every thing has a place so know its place right next to every other light lager.
3.3Love Red Stripe, I even enjoyed the light version. Short stubby bottle, pale, golden, clear, minimal head, light sweetness, light body, if price is that of a domestic macro, great grass cutting beer
2.1Clear light yellow color. Aroma of dirty corn and grain. Nothing past that. Taste is weak grain. Flavor of meh and lightness.
