2.9 Light at the start, building to a roasty malt with toast and coffee. Smooth, but lacking in body. Not bad, but a bit weak.
2.9 BJCP CATEGORY 20A: AMERICAN PORTER AROMA: General dark malt aroma, but no coffee, chocolate or burnt character. Mild fruity esters. 8/12 APPEARANCE: Dark brown/mahogany; seems filtered. Small, tan, foamy head. Poor lacing.2/3 FLAVOR: Generic dark malt flavor. Not sweet. Noticeable dry bitterness. Faint burnt aftertaste. Mild dark fruit presence. Pretty boring palette overall. 10/20 MOUTHFEEL: Medium body. Decent CO2 level. Light astringent aftertaste. 3/5 OVERALL IMPRESSION: Unimpressed. Tastes very macro and tame. Drinkable but not very enjoyable.6/10 TOTAL SCORE: 29/50
3.0 Pour in a dark brown with a small white head. Aroma is a decent char malt with some treacle. Flavor is again a char malt with some ashy bitterness. Not much of a hardy malt presence but it is more of an old world porter rather than Americanized take on the style. I can remember having this beer like 20 years ago. It’s nice to see the different takes newer brewers have on this style.
2.9 Bottle. Really nice, very dark brown, almost black. Absolutely no head. Aroma was kind of weak. Whiffs of burnt grains and toast. Taste was somewhat better. Tasted of dark roast grains with very light hints of mocha. Weak upfront, roasted grains in the middle, light ashy bitterness in the finish.
3.3 On tap. Served a deep brown color with nice thick head that faded slowly. Aroma of toasted malts and nuts. Taste of roasted malts and some nuttiness. Fair bitterness and a dry finish. Moderate body, a bit watery for a porter with a bit of grittiness. Not a bad English Porter, just a bit short on character.
3.0 On draft at the brewery. Dark brown pour, with a small light tan head. Roasty, malty, notes of chocolate, watery, and rather thin and boring. Drinkable, but not interesting.
(Rating #5884)
2.7 "one of the more boring porters i’ve had, not that i’m surprised, given the brewer. it was worth a shot, though. nothing unpleasant, nothing impressive, just a boring beer."
4.2 Draught at the brewpub. Pours a very dark brown color with a very small tan head on it. Nose is very roasty, almost to the point of seeming entirely like a chilled coffee. Taste is also quite roasty and slightly bitter, but has a really pleasant hint of chocolate coming through. Really enjoyable beer.
3.6 Draft wob CAP HILL. SLIGHTLY roasty, chocolate, malty molasses aroma. Texture is slightly creamy, pronounced bitterness. Flavor is roasted coffee and black malt, bitter and drying on the tongue in the finish l. Alcohol is not noticeable, body is full throughout. Overall very enjoyable Sessionable dark ale.
2.7 tap at redhook brewpub, portsmouth. clear dark brown-reddish with a nice beige head, some retention. roasted and fruity notes, minerals, maple and dry grassy notes. average carbonation, light body, almost bland herbal finish. no flaws but a bland porter it is.
3.8 Nitro. Pours black with a tan foamy head. Medium body and low carbonation. Smooth and creamy, tastes like coffee. Light aroma of bread, toast, malt.
3.6 Nitro. Pours deep, dark brown with a thick pillow of creamy beige head; great retention and some lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, oats, earthy notes, light floral notes, and light toast. Flavor is roast malts forward with supporting earthy hops, dark fruit esters, and light woody notes; dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation.
2.8 Had a pint at the Redhook Brewery. A standard porter in color and taste, dark brown and medium, but was disappointed especially in the head: very thin, weak khaki. All in all, I thought it fell somewhat short of what a good porter should be.
3.1 12 oz. bottle. nothing to write home about but a really nice full bodied porter with no off flavors. very drinkable.
3.3 Pours a very dark brown. A pretty solid porter with lots of roasty malts, but lacking when it comes to body.
2.9 On tap for growler fills at Half Time. Pours a thin black to brown, caramel soda sort of color. Empty malt, light roast and toast, caramel. Low carbonation, thin and roasty. Coffee and roast. Dull and lackluster. Long sad toast and roast finish.
2.6 12oz bottle from Liquor Loft. Black pour with a thin khaki head. Aroma of nuts, caramel and brown sugar. Thin palate. Tastes are roasted malts with a metallic vibe.
3.6 On tap at Redhook (Portsmouth). Has a nice black color with a tan head. This beer is super smooth and malty. It was more refreshing than I imagined. There is a very slight hop taste in the finish, Good porter
3.5 On tap at Portsmouth location. Dark pour with frothy head and some lacing. Because this was one of the standard offerings, I expected a pedestrian effort, it being Redhook and all. The aroma was virtually nonexistent, but the flavor was a pretty rich roasty flavor with smooth chocolate undertones. Pretty dry in the mouth, buty still flavorful. Not outstanding but a solid effort.
3.1 Quite the old logo RB has up for the Black Hook...I’ve only had this a few times, and from what I remember, it’s not all that bad for a larger brewed beer. May try it again at some point...
3.5 blackish pour in the glass. Pretty standard dryish porter. Chocolate malts in nose and taste buds. Rated 3/20/03

3.5 Draft at woodinville pub. Pours dark brown little tan head. Aroma of nut, coffee and pine. Balanced with huge toasty finish. Solid drinkable and even better on nitro.
2.3 Pours almost black, no light to be seen. No head at all. A bit of a light roast aroma. Surprising fizzy mouthfeel. Not special, I expected more.
2.5 Pours a slick jet black with very little viscosity. Thin head disappears quickly. Minimal aromas of roast with hints of coffee. A well-attenuated and fairly dry finishing robust porter. Nothing stands out or is too exciting about this one.
3.1 Nice start and middle; very flavorful, but the end leaves something to be desired, a bit too clean.
2.8 Bottle, Honolulu. Carmel and chocolate aroma. Very dark amber but can still see light through the beer. I like this porter, it is a good tasting beer that is not too heavy. Good on price and taste.
3.1 on Nitro at the Barley pub, Dark brown pour with beige head. aroma is some roast and some cocoa/coffee. a touch of dark fruit as well. Mouthfeel is a bit thin but the flavor is decent, though not striking, some coffee bean and milk chocolate followed by some roast at the finish. Not to bad, very drinkable, but ordinary.
2.9 Draft from a nitro tap. Pours a very deep brown with a creamy, light tan head. Light roasted notes with a little earth in the nose. Very low carbonation with a medium, creamy, yet slightly dry mouthfeel. Roasted malt, earth, mineral, and some wood on the palate. Medium finish. I would have liked a little more flavor out of this one.
