Redhook ESB

Redhook ESB

Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhook’s signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category.

The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. It is also great with game and cheeses.

2.4 Bottle - pours hazy dark orange with a thin white head. Aroma is orange citrus and cereal malt. Taste is light sweet malt which quickly fades.
3.4 Aroma is bitter, caramel malt, earthy hop, one-dimensional. Appearance is amber golden, mostly clear, white head. Taste is bitter, earthy hop, caramel malt, easy drinking. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, bitter caramel aftertaste. Overall, easy drinking, although not great for the style.
3.4 Pours light slightly hazy amber, off white head. Aroma is malty, bready, spicy. Taste is caramel malt, slightly hoppy. Light body.
3.3 Bottle@Cafe Langebro, Copenhagen - golden orange pour with thin white head. Fruity and malty number, sweet caramel and toffee, some piney hoppy bitter notes in the finish.
3.2 Nice Straight Ahead esb. Good balance of malt and caramel and bitterness. Acceptable
3.7 Dark copper Thin white head. Malty caramel flavor. Subtle sweetness. Nice tasty beer. Not sure why this rates so low.
3.2 (12oz bottle, usa) AROMA: malt, vanilla, cheese/dairy, some fruit/cherry. APPEARANCE: medium golden, tad brown, a little cloudy, standard head. TASTE: cherry, some kind of chocolate or nut, a bit sweet upfront, toast, bread crust, some herbal, and light hoppy finish. PALATE: crisp, bright, a little oily, fresh. OVERALL: nice beer, very drinkable, not as bitter as expected, would be a solid, above average every day beer.
3.3 12 oz. bottle. Poured light amber, off white head. Aroma was fruit, floral, malts. Taste was sweeter with light bitterness in the finish, floral, sugars.
3.5 From a stubby nose 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Pours gold with head and lace. Aroma of grains, pale malt, straw hops, orange zest. Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of pale malt, grains, minerals, caramel, slight molassas, cinnamon, tropical fruit rind. Overall sweet and malty with some interesting complexity.
2.6 This ESB poured a nice amber colour with a huge off white, creamy head. Scents include cereal, honey and a little caramel. First swig was not bad with flavours of cereal, light hops, honey and mild caramel. Finish was a little bitter with hoppy caramel flavours lingering...
2.9 Poured a mid-orangey-amber with a one-finger creamy frothy head that diminished slowly to a cap that laced OK. Carbonation high, average and with medium sized bubbles. Aroma of caramel, malt and hints of sweet citrus/orange. Taste of caramel malt, quite sweet with low bitterness. Light body. Smooth and soft with a short sweet finish.
2.6 12 oz. bottle from Total Wine & More, Louisville; bottle dated Jul 07 16. Aroma: Pleasant lemon peel and botanical hop aroma with a lightly toasted malt presence. Appearance: Transparent, light copper color with a stream of bubbles holding up a foamy bone head that settles into a sticky, patchy skin. Flavor: Moderate toast and caramel malt initially with more of a spicy, lightly fruity hop presence towards the finish, which is mildly bitter and semi-dry. Palate: Medium body, sticky texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: This is not going to fool anyone familiar with the likes of Fuller’s ESB. Still, it’s interesting enough to serve as a fall cookout/hangout beer in a pinch.
3.2 Bottle; pours clear copper with a thin white head; aroma of caramel and orange; taste is sweet with caramel and malt; finish is light bitter with some orange marmalade; okay
2.6 14-OCT-2016, bottle @Ulkløbben meeting, @Michael. Almost clear with a low White head. Very sweet ale’ish with caramel mostly. Faint bitterness. Not for me.
3.2 Poured from a bottle, short-lived head and little lacing, but very effervescent and an attractive semi-opaque amber color. It may be an extra-special bitter, but it’s not extra-bitter...almost a sweet aroma, tart taste with some pine.
3.2 12oz bottle to tulip. Pours clear amber, small head. Aroma of caramel, cinnamon, roasted barley. Taste of same with some dark stone fruit. Not much bitter.
3.2 Pours a burnt orange color with no head. Some caramel and grassy aromas. Sweet malty taste with some toffee notes. Dry finish
3.1 Bottle at the Silver City hotel earlier today... Polished light Amber.. Dry toast and balanced caramel... Grassy hops mesh well with a dry finish.
3.1 Slightly cloudy reddish golden pour with small, beige foam. Malty nose with caramel, vanilla, and some fruity hops. The hops are more prominent in the taste and their bitterness compliments the active fizz. Medium body and sweet finish.
1.9 So disappointed... Used to be malty and balanced and so tasty... Now it is thin and weak and just not very good. A beer that I grew up with but clearly when Bud got involved everything changed.
2.0 Pours a bold golden with nearly no head. Subdued fruity nose. Missing flavor. I used to drink a shit ton of this back in the day. Just never reviewed it. Was feeling nostalgic. Ruined a memory.
3.1 Pours a light caramel, light head. Aromas light caramel, light herbal hop, grass, slight toffee, earthy. Flavors grass, straw, earthy/herbal hop. Light to medium dry and bitter. Slightly crisp.
2.4 355ml bottle into schooner glass. More than a Cornflakes aroma, perhaps Frosties! Hazy amber beer with thin film on top. A few bubbles. Full bodied, sweet malt taste. Slight zing in the mouth. Alcohol and bitterness noticeable in the finish. Not great and nothing like an ESB.
2.9 Amber beer, hardly any head. Undiscriminate aroma. Light sour taste.very light carbonation, little mouthfeel but with a reasonable aftertaste. Ok, but will not by again.
2.7 Pours coppery. Smells of caramel and some vague earthy notes. Taste is some watery caramel. Not particularly bitter. Not the best example of the style.
3.2 Can poured into a pilsner glass. Pours a semi-cloudy copper with a minimal white head and light lacing. Has an aroma of copper and fruit. Decent flavor deep in both hop and malt, with a great bitterness and outstanding aftertaste. The second half is tasting even better as it warms up and sits out a bit. The granddaddy of craft inspires us all...
3.3 Bottle in IC Amsterdam-The Hague. Clear reddish orange/amber with thin white head. Sweet toasted malts, very malty, light caramel, sweet grain, light fruity notes, marmalade. Light sweet, light bitter. Medium body, bit gelly smooth, greasy, reminiscent of melted butter. Bit plain in taste but very pleasant feel and experience.
3.2 Bottle shared in the train thanks to sjogro. BVO WTF! Clear slight orange golden with small white head. Sweet caramel, orange peel, toffee, cane sugar, lots of sweet malts basically with soft citrus notes. Medium sweet with very light bitterness. Bit under medium bodied.
2.5 Schiuma inesistente (come da stile), colore ambrato-marrognolo, amaro non eccessivo
