2.6Bottle @ Voldby ølmesse. Pours almost black with a tan head. Aroma of hard roasted malt, tar, smoke, peaty, caramel. Flavor is roasted, malt, bacon, peat, light sour. Thin watery body, soft carbonation. 300814
2.1Bottle@Ølmesse, Voldby - very dark brown near black coloured pour. Malty burned and smokey aroma and taste, kind of bbq burned meaty in a weird way, strange on palate. Not a fan.
2.4Strong aroma of smoke. Very dark brown, almost black color with a small brown head. The look of the beer gives higher expectations, than the taste really is, but it’s not bad. Watery taste, light body and long smoked finish. Interesting experince.
2.9Tried cold and room temperature versions. You get more aroma from the room temperature one, but the cold one is definetly more refreshing and I recommend to get that one. A curiosity beer that is worth trying out. I thought it was better than many of the reviews here give credit to it. Definetly not the worst smoke beers I’ve tasted.
1.1Bottle, 3 years past bb-date. Strong smoky aroma, tar, almost black, minimal tan head. Surprisingly watery, taste is primarily smoke, no discernable malt or hops. Very strange. Thanks MiP...
2.5Blackish with a brownish head. Bacon and smoke in the nose, nice. Watery smoked cheese-like malty taste, light yoghurty hints.
2.1Bottle. Pours tar black. :-) Smoky aroma. The taste is definitely of malt, sugar and smoky tar. Thin mouthfeel. Smoky aftertaste. Exceptionally watery beer - amazing how this dark a beer can be so watery and thin. Not bad, but definitely not especially good either. Fun to try though.
2.0Sampled @ Cardinal. Dark brown, almost black with a small beige head. Strong aroma of smoked malt, tar and cured meat. Flavor is super sweet, very much smoke, cured meat, ham and sweet liquorice. A bit thin body and lots of aftertaste in same style as the rest. Quite special, if not to say weird with this combo of lactose sweet and smoked meat. A novelty beer for me.
2.9Bottle bought in Høkeren, pours a deep dark brown, nose is very smoky with a hint of treacle, body is smoky yet very light, almost like a malt drink. One of the traditional ways to drink it was "depth charged" with a slug of akvavit or brandy, and I have to say adding a splash of Løitens made it a significantly more interesting drink.
2.4Shared bottle at Cardinal. Pours dark as Coke with a small tanned head.Aroma of tar and smoke. Taste is thin watery, light tar and smoke. Everything wasn´t better in the old days.
0.8Bottle from MiP - don’t know if you wanted to send me some kind of trial of courage or if you wanted to poison us ;-) ....Nose of fish oil and bad soy sauce. Taste of leather, cod liver, dark roast and smoke. Very deep heavy smoky finish. Hard to drink and almost impossible to finish. After being one week in Belgium with its nice beers, this one seems like a punishment.
1.0Problem is: Ham should be smoked. Or meat, beuf, porc. In general it just means: I do not want to drink smoky water. But I try. And try again. Once again it turns out to smell and taste like a rotten animal. Tough one. Only good thing about that one: Great look of the bottle. Thanks to MiP for giving me the chance to try it.
2.233 cl bottle, best by 9/13/13. Dark brown with a tan coating. Nose is smoke, bologna and faint brown sugar. Medium body with a tingle. Taste is burnt rubber, cardboard and ham. Not very good.
2.5Bottle from Hökeren.
Pours see-through brown with a small head.
Smells smoky, leathery and like smoked sasuage.
Taste has smoke that disappears fast, then malt, sugar, some plastic/metal.
Thin body, not a lot of carbonation.
Aftertaste is flat, some plastic/metal.
Nothing I’d purchase in large quantities but I wouldn’t mind having one again as the price is a piss in the Mississippi.
1.4Bottle shared at a cottage near Blokhus, summer 2012
Black, tanned head. Smells of cigar ash tray. Taste is the same... Really hard to finish. Finished by shoting the rest
0.7This is shit. Smells like sewers. Tastes like rubber, leather, smoke and shit. I recommend this only because of two reasons: It tastes like Närke Bäver, which i think is quite hard to get. Besides it’s uglier than any other beer i’ve had.
2.8Dark brown with a small tan head. Smoky and malty tones. Malt, fruit and smoke. Light body with a short malty / smoky finish.
2.4330ml bottle, thanks to Morten at Lord Nelson. Oily pour, jet black body. Smell of smoked sausages. The flavour character has got more smoked sausage to it than bacon, added by a malty touch. Very dry and salty to the ending. Diluted on the swallow. Difficult to rate this one (Copenhagen, 09.05.2012).
2.6Bottle 330ml @ Geokkjer
Pours dark brown with a small off-white head. Aroma has notes of smoke, bacon and caramel. Taste is light sweet with a short smokey finish. Body is light, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.
3.0Bottle.Pours dark brown with an off-white head.Aroma of smoked ham, burnt and roasted notes.Flavor is sweet and smoked with some caramel.Thin body, dry finish, average carbonation. Nice smoke "light" beer.
3.2Nose is heavy bacon, apricot, weak hops late, feel is thin, carb is mediumlow, taste is mediumsweet malt, sweet apple, sweet licorice, late weak soap
1.1Taste of smoke and water that is all this beer is, it was a drain pour for me. It just a smoke taste with no body to cover it up. Really not a fan at all
3.4Bottle purchased in Copenhagen. Poured hazy brown with little head that retained. Very light body with the flavour mostly being the smoked malt. Very thin but enjoyable and interesting.
2.933 cl, bottle: Black with a minor brown head. Harsh campfire aroma that makes my brain dream of smoked herrings and windswept sea cottages with hints of wet firewood and salty licorice. Thin watery texture, but massively smoke in the mouth gives this beer its uniqueness. Boy, at only 2,4 ABV this one really hos got temper. And it’s the only beer from Refsvindinge I’ll buy if I see it on the shelves of my local beer-pusher.
2.2Bottle 0,33 cl.... pours pitch black with medium light brown head.... aroma is smokey, roasty, malt, rubber.... the flavor is thin, lots of smoke! ..... not my style ......
3.5Bottle, thanks skinnyviking! Dark copper brown color. Loads of firewood and smoke in the aroma with a slight bit of meatiness. Bacon, peat, and lots of smoke in the flavor. Viscous and a little slick. Nice enough.
0.9pours black with a brown head. Aroma of smoke, smoked fish, smoked meat and tar. Taste add some wet wood, metal and dead fish. Not my kind of beer - sorry.
3.5Drank from a bottle into a pint glass in Copenhagen.
The beer pours a medium brown, light tan head, not much going on here...The smell is light smoke but very nice, same thing with the aroma. A lot of the locals were hating on this beer but I thought it was great.
Seek this out in Denmark. This is a super easy to drink and low abv beer with lots of taste and feel and spunk, really solid.
2.9Bottle 33 cl. Black pour with a small brown head. Aroma of smoke, oseaner of smoke. Notes of malt. The taste follows the nose. The aftertaste bear the imprint of smoke. Why smoke when you can drink it instead.
