Revolution Deth's Tar

Revolution Deth's Tar

Imperial oatmeal stout aged in bourbon barrels.

A prolonged repose in bourbon-soaked American oak barrels adorns a dark chocolate profile with notes of toasted coconut and vanilla. A rich, supple texture belies the unholy power of our Imperial Oatmeal Stout.

3.9 12oz (thx, Dru!) @ Alex's. Appearance: very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma: boozy with bourbon notes, chocolate. Taste: moderately sweet, bourbon, some coffee and vanilla, a bit boozy. Overall: pretty good, reminded me a secret can of Catching Moonlight 2021 we had earlier in the evening.
3.7 Refrigerated 12 oz can, canned October 4, 2021 poured into a glass. Black with small light brown head. Aroma is bourbon, medium/think body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is bourbon, chocolate, and oak.
3.9 TaveCan pours black with a one finger tan head. Aroma is bourbon, dark chocolate, molasses, tobacco. Sweet boozy chocolate bourbon flavor. Full and thick, lighter carbonation. Good but a bit much after a few ounces #2ozisallyouneed #2oztofreedom
4.1 Tons of roast malt. Caramel. Vanilla. Whispers of dark fruit. Pours black with a densish tan head with some fluffiness. Fades down leaving a little foam on the glass. Hard candy. Vanilla. Cocoa. Bourbon for days. A little bit of earth. Hints of dark fruit. Nice afterburn. Fantastic.
4.1 Black, large head. Roasty with cocoa, vanilla cream, coffee and strong floral hops. Very long finish. Full body
4.0 Enjoyed at home, the first beer I've had in 4 months. It's a nice one to have! Pitch black appearance with a tan head. Chocolate, espresso, caramel aroma, nice profile with a light burn going down. This is a pretty good bourbon barrel stout, interested in trying other variants.
1.7 Very disappointing. This beer doesn’t come close to being an Imperiql Scott. Far too little malt and way too acidic and hoppy. Has Almost reminds me of a fruit beer. I hate that it comes from my town Chicago.
3.7 ( can) Aroma: vanilla, soy souce, coconut. Taste: sweet, flavour of chocolate, vanilla, soy souce and dark malts. Palate: medium to full body, no sign of booz whatsoever, low to medium carbonation. Palate: medium body, medium carbonation. Overall: Good one !
4.2 12oz can at home via IL. Pours inky black with little to no head. Dark roasty malt, Baker’s chocolate, licorice, soy, coffee, molasses, caramel. Low carb, full body, thick soft texture, not too subtle alcohol. Long chocolatey, warming finish. Excellent,
3.9 Pours a thick, oily black, with minimal head. Aroma of bourbon, bourbon, and more bourbon. Flavor is bourbon, some chocolate, anise, a touch of coffee. It's pretty sweet on the whole.
4.6 Lattina 2019 con 1 anno di shelf. Spacca. Carbonazione quasi nulla.
3.9 12oz can thanks to Steve. Near black pour with thin beige head. Rpasty ma;ts in the aroma along with hints of chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Taste is more chocolate with marshmallows, coffee and a big boozy kick.
3.9 Aromas of bourbon, chocolate, some coffee and vanilla. Smooth texture. High alcohol is very apparent. Good, but too alcohol/bourbon dominated.
4.4 12oz can that cost me $12. Poured a near black with a medium sized tan head. Chocolate, vanilla, wood / oak, oats, more chocolate, and creamy.
4.2 Can @ Jacobs, 14,8 % ABV Deep Wood Series canned 10042019. Pours black with a creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, wood, vanilla, rich bourbon. Flavor is sweet, malty, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, light wood, rich bourbon, some alcohol. Full body, oily mouthfeel, soft to average carbonation, sweet finish with warming alcohol. Drinks well for the high ABV. 161119
2.5 Had a sample at WOBFest 2019. Pours inky black with to no head. Aroma is all about dark ingredients: malt, chocolate, coffee, molasses. Thick body. Flavor has strong alcohol notes with aftertaste of chocolately coffee. Meh.
4.3 Tasted from can. Dark brown with beige head. Bourbon sweet nose. Moderate to heavily sticky sweet on the mouth. Caramel, brown sugar, molasses, cocoa, dates on the flavor. Excellent BA stout.
3.5 Stevige kerel met 14,8 alcohol , maar vond hem niet aan dit profiel passen.
3.8 Can pours black with dark tan head. Nose of roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, and some coffee. Roasted malt with chocolate notes upfront followed by vanilla and a hint of coffee. Full body with a viscous mouthfeel. Long finish with more roasted malt, chocolate, and some alcohol. Alcohol not as prominent as one would expect in such a high alcohol beer. Very good overall.
3.2 Taster On tap @ Vintage Estates. Pours a dark brown to black with a thin off white ring. Light aroma of roasted malts. Thin, lightly sweet, dry woody whiskey taste with some vanilla and coconut. Not bad but not as good as I expected
4.1 Pours a pitch black coloration with a small, creamy/foamy head. Smells of roasted, caramel malt, dark chocolate and dark fruit, with a good, if slightly sharp, bourbon presence and hints of vanilla, coffee and oak. Taste is dominated by slightly roasted, caramel malt, chocolate and dark fruits: raisin, fig, dates, as well as lighter notes of coffee, vanilla, bourbon and an earthy oak presence, with just a hint of herbal hops and licorice as well. Finishes bittersweet, with a light/medium bitterness and some roasted malt and dark fruits lingering in the aftertaste, as well as a slightly boozy bourbon note. Full, thick mouthfeel with a rich body and low carbonation. An Imperial Stout that's rather heavy on the caramel malts and sweet, dark fruits, but still manages to pull off a good balance with some roasted and rich, dark, bitter chocolate notes, coffee and licorice, as well as a good, although slightly boozy, bourbon presence. Perhaps just a tad too sweet and boozy for my personal taste, but still a terrific beer with a decent complexity and good balance of flavors .
4.0 Can. Black color with beige head. Aroma is cinnamon, chocolate, vanilla, very thick Bourbon. Taste is cinnamon, vanilla, oak, raisins, prunes. Thick oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Good one!
3.8 Pours thick, oily black with a thin, dark tan head. Aroma is vanilla, roast, bourbon. Taste is caramel and chocolate, moving to vanilla, roast and building bourbon. Finish holds the bourbon. A tasty beer for bourbon aficionados.
4.0 Can shared by alexsdad06. Poured clear brown color with an average frothy tan head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt and bourbon aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy dark sweet flavor with a moderate to heavy dark alcohol sweet finish of medium to long duration. This beer is a standout. Earlier Rating: 11/1/2013 Total Score: 4.1 Bottle. Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly diminished with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee, chocolate and wood bourbon alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy toasted chocolate malt and bourbon sweet flavor with a heavy dark sweet and alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.
3.9 12 oz. can shared with Tmoney99 and the Dutch's crew, from recent notes. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, dark chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, oak, molasses, a very solid variant of the base beer. Earlier Rating: 5/11/2014 Total Score: 4 22 oz bottle shared by DrSilverworm in November 2013. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have a strong barrel character on top of big roasted malt. Dark chocolate, wood, char some vanilla and tobacco, but the barrel is strong with this one. Good flavor.
3.6 Can - pours dark brown tan head - nose and taste of bourbon, chocolate - medium bodied.
4.2 2016 bottle - a bit more than two years old. Very tasty stout. Lots of dark chocolate without much of a harsh edge. Some coffee and a good dose of oaky bourbon sweetness. Smooth, good body. Probably was a bit creamier fresh. Some booze. Good stuff.
4.0 Draught @ Revolution Brewing Taproom, Chicago. Sweet, sticky and syrupy with loads of bourbon, oak, wood, toffee and warming alcohol. Heavy slow sipper.
3.9 Can. Deep, murky brown-black body, thin dissipating medium brown head. Oaky nose, inky, with layers of roast, coffee beans, and bourbon; also prune and raisin. Body initially sharp with prominent alcohol burn in the nostrils and chest, the syrupy morass beneath round, malty, and sugary with coffee beans and roast, prune/raisin, bourbon, and sharp, raw, bitter oak. Substantial but hot and raw; I'd be curious to sample this IS with some age on it.
4.7 11/18/19 (Chicago): Multiple pours into snifter out of a 2017 14.8% ABV 12 oz can canned 11/9/17 at 10:00:17. Pitch black pour, nice tan creamy head, dissipates to leave creamy tan lacing and tan cover on the top. Sweet aroma, bourbon prevalent, vanilla and dark chocolate backs well. Strong bourbon taste right off the bat. Chocolate malt secondary, slight vanilla but nothing can tame the onslaught of excellent bourbon bursting through. Somewhat creamy mouth feel, tingly sweet as the vanilla and chocolate battle the bourbon but ultimately buckle to the supremacy of bourbon strength and excellence. It never felt so good, it never felt so right, it was rolling like the metal on the edge of a flask (or knife). Another excellent offering by Revolution Brewing. Viva la Revolución!
