Revolution Fist City

Revolution Fist City

Our newest year-round canned beer is brewed with lots of 2 row and red wheat with a little specialty malt for a beautiful golden hue. A blend of Centennial, Citra, Chinook, Cascade and Crystal hops give the beer its flavor and aroma. This Chicago Pale Ale is meant to be a supremely drinkable brew for those who love hops. Magnificent California hop aromas play in perfect harmony with this brew’s extremely satisfying finish.

1.3 Questionable name aside, it's got a nice local livery and design, and was a good choice for the University of Chicago to feature at its official commencement ceremonies--though for those that ah, are less in love with hops, it's incredible that this is an APA and not an IPA, with aromatic hops and bitterness a constant affront (fist in the face, one might say) from start to finish (12 oz can, Chicago, IL)
3.3 From tap at the brewpub. Clear golden color with off white head. Malty and hoppy aroma, bread, caramel, grass, citrus. Sweet and bitter taste. Light thin to oily body with soft carbonation.
3.4 From my wife who picked this up in Chicago: pours a clear gold with a white head. Aroma is modestly fruitu, floral. Nice in general. Taste is less fruity, slightly herbal, a bit bitter. Finish is vegetable cuttings, which I could have done without. In any case, still quite solid.
3.5 Draft to pint at the brewpub (shared with the Mrs.). Looks solid; a transparent gold with foamy eggshell head. Smells of fruity hops and a bit of grain with a mildly to moderately bittersweet backbone. Mouthfeel is medium-light to medium-bodied with some mild bitterness. Sessionable and enjoyable.
3.4 Nice and not so hoppy. Easy to enjoy and creamy in some ways. Greta color and a little cloudy.
3.7 On tap at Revolution Chicago. Clear gold colour lasting white head. Some peach on a hoppy aroma. Sherbet hop flavour. Light on malts. Hops are excellent though. Sherbet lemon with decent pepper bitterness. Easy drinking apa.
3.5 Tap at off color in Chicago. Gold with medium white head. Typical hop nose. Taste is piney hop and crisp, but this version tasted a bit muted, might have been the pour.
3.6 West coast hop aroma with a substantial malt backbone. Slightly darker than a macrobrew with a white head. Lemon peel taste with a sharpish hop bite. Thin palate. This was a good pale ale.
3.5 On tap at ORD airport Pours clear golden with a medium sized off-white head, good lacing. Aroma of citrus, straw and fruity. Flavor is fruity, berries and citrus Good
3.7 Served from can into glass at home. Look: Pours deep gold in color, very high clarity, with bright white head with good retention. No visible floating particulates or yeast sediment. Streamers of small bubbles continue to slowly rise. Smell: Good hoppy aroma: earthy, spicy, floral, zesty. A little fruity too, with a clean cereal malt underneath. No alcohol aroma detectable. Taste: Nice hoppy flavor that follows the aroma: earthy, herbaceous, spicy, a little citrus. Classic pale ale malt flavor. Low sweetness. Medium bitterness. No detectable alcohol flavor. Feel: Smooth mouthfeel. Not heavy or slick. Easy to drink. Medium carbonation. Semi dry finish. Overall: A very good pale ale. "Supremely drinkable" is a fitting description for this beer. The hops provide an interesting aroma and flavor that is not overwhelming in complexity or depth. The body is light enough to drink easily but not feel watery. It is very reminiscent to me of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and I think that is praise enough.
3.6 1/18/2018 (draft at Quan Hapa in Cincinnati, Ohio): Golden, bubbly, and hoppy. Nice floral pale ale with enough bite to nearly knock this into IPA land, despite the lower alcohol. Very good, very flavor, and a great compliment to my dinner of House Okonomiyaki and Kalbi Loco Moco!
4.1 The aroma is definitely hop focuses with a good amount of citrus going on. The malt is pretty well hidden here and doesn't provide much aroma. Golden yellow - mostly clear with the tiniest bit of haze. Rocky off white head. Salty, not a lick of sweetness before it transitions into medium bitterness. This is a light bodied pale ale that is crisp and clean, with average carbonation.
3.7 Pours a small, off-white, foamy head. It’s clear and has a deep yellow, gold color. Light body, foamy carbonation that’s on the prickly side. Grassy/citrus bitterness, grapefruit with light floral notes. A solid session brew.
3.6 Pint at the original location. Nice, clear gold beer with a white head. It's just a solid, classic American hop bill on display in the aroma. Citrusy, a little piney, and not necessarily dank or overpowering. The malt bill is simple, just a little bready. Citrusy hop flavors come out with the right amount of bitterness. It's a very straightforward pale ale without the maltiness of something like SNPA or without the smack-you-in-the-face hoppiness of many new school pale ales.
3.5 12oz can. Filtered copper-orange body. Quite balanced, sort of a classical West Coast IPA. The hops add a pleasant bitterness. but aren't really that pronounced. Solid session pale.
4.1 Big pine resin, zesty orange/grapefruit and caramel nose jumps right out of this 12 oz. that was canned 08-31-2017. Clear golden-amber with nice legs supporting a film of cream on top. Flavor is thankfully all that the aroma promised. Light-medium body has medium-plus carbonation and an almost-IPA dry slant. Another big thanks to Party Bob for keeping me stocked up with the best of Chicago!
3.4 Bright apricot, minimal head and runny lacing. Burnt toast, malt, resin, nice and hoppy. $9.99/multi six pack 12oz can at Fresh Thyme Farmers Market in River Forest, IL
3.3 12oz can (courtesy of Headbanger), the can bulged and split in shipping. About half the beer leaked out, but going to give it a try anyway. Poured into a small snifter, zero carbonation so no head. Color is a hazy golden orange. Aroma is rich and sweet with big fruity hops. It seems to have a medium body but without carbonation it feels flat. Flavor is fruit, citrus with a nice hop bitterness. Finishes with some pine showing. Overall it must be a great brew because even flat it's well balanced with big flavors.
3.8 Poured from can into rocks glass at McCormick Place in Chicago, a clear light golden amber colour with fluffy white foam, lasting with lace. A typical but particularly good APA, strong malt base, slightly bready and biscuity, hint of caramel, with hefty hop-forward bitterness, flavour and aroma. Musky weed, grapefruit, pine, black currants, apricots and berry fruit. Light-medium body, strong carbonation, lingering bittersweet aftertaste.
4.0 So many hop varieties make the aroma both pine forest and fruit salad, depending on which nostril I’m concentrating on. OK, there’s a whole lotta hops there. Terrific finish has the malty sweetness first, followed by resinous pine bitterness, then a citrus juiciness, then a pine bark and dry conclusion. Really nice.
3.6 Solid pale ale. I’m a bit of a Revolution fan boy with their assertive hop approach. This one is certainly assertively hopped up but with a smooth maltiness to it. Nothing really comes from left field as being unique but I can’t deny the Revolution characteristics here. I’m used to their excellent IPA’s and feel this could be my "go to" session ale. So glad they are my local brewery.
3.6 Pours cloudy golden with low white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, tropical fruit. Taste is resinous, bitter, lingering slightly medicinal finish. Light and smooth body with soft carbonation.
3.6 12 floz can that I paid the per unit equivalent of $1.50, COD: 01.11.2017. Poured into a nonic glass appearing a pale gold, with bubbles making their way to the top to support a solid 1.5 finger head. I can definitely smell the hop dust that gives off lemon zest and a whole bunch of citrus fruits. Palate presents a purely Americn take on a pale ale. It’s not an IPA nor a session IPA, it’s just a golden grapefruit, and rose honey APA. I do prefer more of a hop presence to nod toward English tradition, but this is still pretty good for blonde/pale American ale.
3.7 Draft pour at Savor: An American Craft Beer & Food Experience 2017. Poured a golden yellow color with an off-white head. Aroma was juicy, citrus notes. Nice floral character. Flavor was light dusty citrus, fruit. Tasty.
4.0 Nice balanced beer. Lots of hops and lots of flavor. Ends a bit hop tea but at abv is expected. Very well done and very impressive.
3.3 Straw color, with a bit of haze and a fluffy off-white head, mostly lasting. Zesty scents, but not overpowering. Orange, and crystal malt scents that I somehow feel like I’m grilling some orange slices for a fancy dinner. Light sweet start, with a bit of oak noted in the middle. Crisp finish and a lightly woody finish.
3.6 12 oz can. Pours a golden yellow with an off-white head. The smell is toasted malt, citrus, floral. The taste is toasted malt then a big citrus rush ending fruity and dry. Light in body with slightly above average carbonation level.
3.8 on tap at the brewery; clear amber color; great citrusy hop aroma; nice citrusy hop flavor with pine notes; medium bodied, bready malt base
3.0 Not a bad beer. Pretty good blend of tropical and piney hops, though the grapefruityness really dominates at the end. Tried with Brandon at the brewery in 2017.
3.2 12 oz can. Pours a orange gold with a dense bubbly white head. Aromas of oranges, lemons, and biscuit. A touch of hoppy bitterness, cereal malts, a little bubble gum, and just a little funkiness. Not bad. Medium body, creamy.
