Revolution Straight Jacket

Revolution Straight Jacket

In November of 2010, we filled 1 Jack Daniels and 1 Heaven Hill Rye Whiskey barrel with our Barleywine (Institutionalized). The combination of these two unique barrels yield a very rich and complex finished product. Deep aromas and flavors of dark stone fruits, bourbon, molasses, toasted coconut and vanilla come in waves as you swirl this beer in the snifter.

Future releases, especially the first bottle release saw this offering aged exclusively in Woodford Reserve barrels. This is noted for the 2012 December Release, but will not be seperated out.

4.4 0,33 litre Can, from a trade. Brown with beige head. Malts, hops, bourbon, mild, sweetness, Caramel, Smooth.
4.2 Can from a friend. Brown color, white head. Bitter taste with dried fruits, bourbon, oak, malts, hops, resin and oak. Bitter finish with dried fruits, oak, malts, bourbon, resin, hops and caramel. Excellent barley wine.
3.9 Aroma is caramel and whiskey/scotch. The flavor is caramel, slight chocolate, malts and a slightly strong/sweet finish.
4.2 Can from beer temple. Pours hazy chestnut, medium beige head, good lacing. Aroma is dark sugars, worthers, bourbon, vanilla, decadent. Flavor is fairly sweet, light bitter. Merlin body. Godly
3.9 Hazy but translucent deep orange-red-brown body, medium, clumping, dissipating beige head. Big sticky nose with caramel, brown sugar, bourbon, oak, and alcohol. Intensely sugary, vinous body, complex and layered beneath the sugar onslaught, with brown sugar, butterscotch, bourbon, sherry, raisin, oak, tea leaves, and a slick soy finish. Very good, too sweet for elite status, but right up there.
3.8 Can, courtesy of Sergey, as Revolution Straight Jacket, 15% ABV Mahogany colour. Malt and bourbon aroma. Sweet but in balance with alcohol strength and bitterness, caramel flavour, elegant bourbon. Considering the extreme ABV, it's well done.
4.0 12oz shared with Alex and Brian in Golden Ears on the secret ⛱. Appearance: slightly hazy brown with a beige head. Aroma: caramel, bourbon, toffee. Taste: along the same line with some nice slight creamu character. Overall: 👍 one.
Fantastiskt bra.
4.2 12 oz can courtesy of Motortoddhead. Pours a deep reddish brown amber with a medium cream colored head. Aroma of whiskey, bourbon, candies malt and barley. Taste is much the same as the aroma.
3.5 Can at Andy's, pours an amber brown with a medium head. Notes are toffee, roast, caramel malt, dark fruit, whiskey, and booze. It was ok, but got totally overshadowed by a 2015 Aaron that I popped.
4.2 Bottle: Poured a dark hazy amber color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of string dry caramelized malt notes with some oak, vanilla and bourbon notes is quite enticing. Taste is also a mix of caramelized malt notes with dry notes of oak and bourbon with some woody notes. Body is full with good carbonation with some warming alcohol notes also perceptible. Solid BA barleywine with great level of complexity.
4.0 Taste: bold, boozy, semi sweet, oak, dark fruit, charred, malty, with sticky finish. Big oak woody, bourbon, sweet nose. Deep Mahogany Red hue, mostly clear, delicate lace and head. Medium/full to full body. Boozy sipper.
4.2 Can. Aroma of malt, bourbon, vinous, oak. Clear brown. Taste is moderate sweet, light bitter, bourbon, malty. Full body, oily feel, light bourbon finish.
4.0 10 oz at Asbury. This is deep brown with a firm head. The aroma is pretty boozy but it does calm down a bit as it warms. Heavy oak and whiskey are backed by sweet brown sugar and vanilla. The body is giant with a touch of burn. It's sweet with vanilla, toffee, brown sugar, and charred oak. Great sipping beer, especially closer to room temperature.
3.3 I As Revolution Deepwood Series Straight Jacket Barley Wine Bourbon Barrel aged /I Medium, light-cream head over hazy ruby-red beer. Vinous, vanilla, Bourbon², young oak, sweet, cherry. Sweet, Bourbon², vanilla², near cloying sweetness, cherry liqueur. Full bodied doesn't come near, viscous as resin. Not very carbonated. Over the top Bourbon, it's too sweet by lightyears. I Thanks to Leen & Dirk! /I
4.1 Can shared. The beer is a clear copper color with a beige head of foam. The aroma has caramel, toffee, caramel, toasty. Sweet and boozy. Bigger body and medium carbonation.
3.6 From Binnys, a classic drinkable barleywine. The bourbon is well integrated. Crowd pleaser.
4.1 Can shared at Lucky Bamboo share. Pours a deep copper to brown with a finger of beige foam that lingers. Big boozy nose with fig, prune, date, cacao nib, vanilla and bourbon aromas that dominate the nose. Smooth on the palate with more fruit, cacao nib, vanilla and faint coconut and oak notes. Again, smooth on the finish with booze and vanilla alongside fall fruit. I don't really like barley wines, but I dig this a lot.
3.9 Bottle, shared at Blabaer line (thanks whoever shared it!). Pours amber. Aroma and flavor are sweet, bitter, caramel, malt, slight booze. Overall: very good barley wine.
3.8 Small pour at Brewer's Republic. Pours a clear, bronze color, with a medium, foamy, tan head. The aroma is vanilla, smooth oak, pine, walnuts, and light cherry. Sweet and boozy, with a pleasant, mild bitterness. Heavy body, with a syrupy, slick palate. Nice, malt-forward barley wine, with great barrel character.
4.2 Bottle. Hazy amber color with beige head. Aroma is super intense raisins, caramel, vanilla. Taste is caramel, raisins, vanilla, very intense and not too sweet. Oily mouthfeel with low carbonation. Great!
4.0 0,65l from bottle shared during blabaer line. Dark brown color, small off white head. Smell of ripe fruits, marzipan, nutty, light soy sauce, light lactose, very nice smell. Full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. Tastes of marzipan, nutty, ripe fruits, light molasses, some brown sugar. Finishes medium sweet with notes of dried fruits, marzipan and nutty notes. V very very nice one, very sweet
3.8 Heavy, malty and caramely with some toffee, oak and vanilla. Heavy and sticky.
3.9 Pours clear mahogany with a two finger, light beige head. Aroma is candied sugar, dried fruit and bourbon. Taste is caramel and raisin, moving to banana esters, roast and wood. Finish is wood, bourbon and some alcohol heat. A very good barley wine.
4.1 Revolution Brewing - Straight Jacket 2019 Barleywine Ale Aged In Bourbon Barrels. Alkohol: 13,1% obj. Data puszkowania: 04.01.2019 Puszka: 355 ml Kolor: Miedziany z rubinowymi odblaskami. Piana: Umiarkowana, drobna o kremowej barwie. Minimalnie wychodzi przed szereg. Umiarkowane ciało oraz lekko gorzkawe tło. Super pijalność! Wysycenie: Umiarkowane. Podsumowanie: Klasyczny do bólu English Barley Wine. Bogaty, wielowymiarowy smak, nienaganny aromat. Znika ze szkła niczym leciutki Pils w upalne dni. Revolution Brewing nigdy nie zawodzi :)
3.5 as Straight Jacket. Draught. Pours amber with a small beige head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, bourbon, fruit cake, and some molasses. Taste is bourbon, caramel, dark fruit, fruit cake, and molasses. Some booze. Medium body. Moderate, almost velvety carbonation. Oily-creamy mouthfeel.
4.0 Straight Jacket 2018. A deep dark reddish copper brown barleywine with a thin dark brown head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with vinous notes, loads of alcohol warmth, light vanilla and bourbon barrel notes, woody notes, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity caramel malt with vanille, bourbon barrel notes, woody notes, alcohol warmth, dark fruits, very nice. On tap at Kedzie location.
3.8 Draft to mini-snifter at HopCat in Kalamazoo. This beer is listed as Straight Jacket on the beer menu. Looks good for the style; a hazy deeo amberish brown with light beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells and tastes RICH and malty with of loads of caramel, vanilla, coconut, molasses, and oak. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with well-balanced bitterness. Mildly warming, but dangerously smooth for the abv. A good example of the style.
4.0 Can shared by a friend. Clear brown pour with a thin beige head. Aroma of malt, bourbon, caramel and toffee. Sweet malt and caramel flavor with some chocolate before a bourbon and vanilla finish.
3.7 Blind beer #5 from capnmike. Small can...dark mahogany with a fizzy light brown head that disappeared to the thin film in the picture. Ok was not expecting this...capnmike are you trying to get me drunk...maybe take advantage of the Canadian? This seems like another boozy beer...toffee, caramel, hints of vanilla, not sure about bourbon but definitely some sort of barrel and oak...I will choose bourbon. I think maybe 13%...am I just picking these beers in a strange order or are they all boozy? Did Goose Island can BA Hi-fi? No clue what is out there in this realm for this type of beer...if you hadn't already included the GI barleywine I would habe guessed that...apart from the can part. Who the fuck puts this kind of a beer in a can? And can I meet them, take them out to dinner, maybe party?
