Ridgeway Bitter

Ridgeway Bitter

If Maris Otter malt is the body of our beer then hops are its spirit. Each year we choose our hops not just by farm but by individual garden and time of harvest. One older variety, Challenger, and one new,Boadicea, used as unprocessed whole leaf hops. Extravagant, perhaps, but delicious.

3.2 Golden color and white head. Aroma of citrus, caramel, hops and spices. Taste, fruity, spicy with bitter finish. Good beer.
2.8 Golden orange body with a half inch of soapy, off-white head. Fruity, malty, bready aroma. A tad sweet. Thin body with low carbonation. Odd fruity notes in the finish. Lacking body and malt presence. Needs help.
3.0 50 cl bottle. Clear amber colour with creamy white head. Hoppy aroma and flavour, some fruits. Weak bitter
2.8 Bottle. Clear golden color, medium white head. Aroma of light fruit. Taste is malt forward, fruity edge. Light body. Easy drinking.
3.3 Sample at a tasting. Amber body with a medium white head. Malty, with a distinct bitter presence. Well done without being anything extra ordinary. Good pub ale.
3.0 Bottle. Poured a cloudy amber. Just like any other bitter. Wicked fizzy with a grain flavor.
3.1 bitter un po scarica. piacevole come session bere. gusto pulito note amare che coprono i malti.
3.1 Bottle at home. Pours clear amber with a medium, fizzy white head, medium-short retention with good lacing. Aroma is bread and biscuit malt, light dates and soft caramel notes with woody hops. Flavor is malt dominant, medium-light hops and bitterness, soft dark fruit notes and a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation.
2.9 Tap @ Storyville, Helsinki. Pours a fairly amber with a small, off-white head. Aroma is quite fruity, some bready caramel. Taste is surprisingly fruity. Caramelly bitter-flavors are there. A bit of butter on the aroma, but quite fruity. Decent palate.
2.8 500ml bottle. Pours a clear medium gold, with a white head. Malty, spicy aroma, quite a robust hop note, caramel, apricot, faintly phenolic. Dry, light to medium bitter, mid bitterness, quite lively CO2. Spicy, herbal taste, malt, hops, citrus peel, orange, faintly earthy. A little bland. (2013-08-23)
3.0 Bottled. Bought at Presporska Pivoteka in Bratislava/Slovakia. This bottled bitter is excellent! Bitter, hoppy a bit, refreshing. Due to 4% abv this is a great summer beer! The finish is pleasantly bitter. The arome of floral freshness unfolds when the glass is half full. I think this bottled bitter is excellent!
1.6 500ml bottle. ar: little detected. ap: gold/copper, minimal head, clear. ta:light bitterness, medium sweetness. pa light-medium body, thin to medium texture, carbonation average. Finish nondescript. Overall: I found it hard to detect any flavour in this beer.
2.6 50 cl bottle. Originally rated on 20091129. Pours golden color with a small head. Aroma of fruits, grass, mild hops and nuts. Flavor of nuts, malts, grass and some fruits.
2.2 500mL bottle. Poured medium orange with a quick-forming, tall beige head. The aroma picked up honey, toasted grains, and slight vegetal character with accents of grassy hops.. I did not enjoy it. The flavor found buttery bread and honeyed malts at the core with light sour fruit skins plus grassy bitterness around.. finished tangy with high carbonation and lots of residual sugars. Lighter-bodied but very full on the carbonation.. not very well balanced.. just not for me.
3.5 Bottled 500ml. -from Presporska Pivoteka ie Cafe Luxor, Bratislava. Dark golden coloured, small airy white head that went away fast, mild malty fruity nose. Sweet malty, fruity and caramel with notes of hops. Bitterish finish. Despite low abv not bad at all.
3.4 Bottle brought from Bratislava by some friends of Ogi’s, who shared it with me (thanks!). Poured a lovely full, slightly hazy orangey-amber-gold body with a medium sized, slightly off white head. Soft malty nose, very light notes of orange, some graininess. The taste is somewhat empty, but generally hop driven, and the nice piney aromatic hops are certainly welcome here. Very light bready notes. All in all a very solid little bitter. Nice!
2.8 041012. Bottle at home. Pouts slightly hazy copper with a small head. Aroma light hops, some caramel. Thin hoppy taste.
3.0 Bottle from super market. Amber color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, caramel, fruits and floral hops. Smooth bitter finish. Good brew, yet nothing exceptional.
2.6 A very average ale. Quite hoppy but lacks a distinctive taste and, despite being more carbonated than most bitters, leaves a rather flat taste.
2.7 500 ml bottle from Stockmann. Pours amber with a white head. Malty aroma with some grass.Bitter, grassy flavour with a somewhat disturbing metallic undertone. Seems to lack something to be really good.
2.8 21st April 2010 Bottle thanks to my ’sister in law’ - Cheers Sarah. Clear amber beer. Light semi crisp and semi dry palate. Well balanced. Lagerish malt. Citrus hops, orangey. Unremarkable but well built and quite drinkable.
2.0 Sept 2009: Brown 275ml bottle, part of a presentation pack given to me by my daughter, loads of life left before its best before date. Poured into a UK half pint straight sided glass. Amber body, with a mini haze in it, a good sized white foaming head sat on top. Had trouble finding a smell at first, but some hops and yeast arrived as the beer warmed. The taste reminded me of farmyard manure and a green beer, meaning it wasn’t ready to drink. Too fizzy for me. Not overly impressed to be honest, pleased it wasn’t a pint bottle.
2.9 Golden colour with a white head. Light hoppy and fruity aroma. A bit weak flavour. Light malty, fruity and hoppy flavour. Fresh and easy drinkable, but light in a way. [Bottle from Systembolaget in Sweden]
3.0 Bottle. This had a bit of amber and was clear. The aroma was lightly fruity and malty. Pretty much a classic bitter. That was the flavor, too. A bit of bitterness. Not a bad beer but bitters are so similar.
2.9 Bottle @ YNWA, Kolding. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty and light hoppy - fruity. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 240312
2.0 Sembra di bere acqua...
2.5 040212: Very light golden beer. Thin, dull runner metallic aftertaste that probably would be the bitter part.
3.2 Bottle. Golden orange colour with a small white head. Hoppy aroma with fruity and malty notes. Flavour is slightly bitter with sweetish malt, fruity and citrusy hops. Dry and bitter finish. A bit watery but still a decent bitter.
3.2 Soem head, deep yellow. Light and spiced nose. medium body and some length, Nice soft with a litle hoppy bitter exit. nice.
