Ridgeway Foreign Export Stout

Ridgeway Foreign Export Stout

Ridgeway FES bottle matures in a similar way to vintage port. Roasted malts and leaf hops initially provide an aroma of breakfast coffee and fresh spices that gradually fades to reveal licorice, caramel and raisin notes that are products of the ageing process. Beneath all this change sits a solid and resilient backbone of bitter English hop. Satisfyingly foreign. You might even imagine the glow of the peat fire?

3.5 0.5l bottle from supermarket. aroma: coffee, caramel, alcohol, licorice, chocolate. Dark color with brown notes, small beige head, oily texture, medium to full body. Taste: sweet, slightly roasty, licorice, caramel. Good one.
2.3 From Apr 2008 This pours a reddish dark brown with a 1 finger head of tannish foam. It quickly shrinks to a fine broken layer with almost no lacing. The smell has notes of dark fruit, some chocolate, and a wee bit of coffee. The taste is very light and very thin. I get some plum, some chocolate, very little coffee, maybe some fig but...they are all very minor players in the taste. The alcohol is hidden pretty well but too bad the flavours are also. I've liked all of the Ridgway beers I've tried until this one came along. This is definitely a one of. Price: US$5.99 Brewer code: F08 349

Farlig lettdrikkelig i solveggen utenfor C.Viking. Streif av luxuskaffe. Mild bitterhet med hint av mørke bær. Superfed.

3.6 I suspect this beer I tried was beyond its peak freshness. Pour was exceptionally flat at flavor had strong oxidation (metallic taste). Aside from that it was nice with chocolate and sweet alcohol flavors.

3.3 Bottle. Pours a deep red color with a fine white head. Aroma of mostly just of roasted malt with a hint of caramel. Taste of roasted malt, flat coffee, chocolate, caramel, spices, nuts, wood, dark fruits and a hint of chocolate. Very sweet and mild with a dry slightly bitter aftertaste - although that being said I don’t really taste hops. Medium body and below medium carbonation. Not bad, but nothing too special either.
