3.3 500ml Bottles from Beers of Europe (2021) and Booth’s, Ripon (2017, 2010). Dark amber coloured with a thick white head of foam. It has a chocolate and malty flavour with a nutty, roasted finish. Pretty good.
2.7 White frothy head stayed well on a finely carbonated golden head. Malt & spice aroma Medium smooth body. Spicy, bitter, stewed fruit & a long tangy on the back. Decent Festive Beer
2.6 Treated as a winter warmer and poured into a mug, the appearance was a ruddy golden burnt orange almost light brown color with a decent transparency about it. Head dissipated immediately leaving a nicely speckled lace claiming the glass. The aroma takes on a big sweet malty stickiness. Some mineral water, and grassy sweet fuggles hops come across. I swear that’s got to be fuggles hops in it. The flavor yields to the malty sweetness and lets in the fuggles hops smooth and clean soapiness. Biscuity sweet with a touch of toffee and light milk chocolate. Malty rich toffee aftertaste. Sticky wet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Mild carbonation yields to a very smooth and practically sticky body. Overall, well, as a winter warmer, it’s quite lacking in that department as far as some winter spices that could "beef" it up to a better quality of the style. Ratebeer says English Strong ale, so if some nuttiness or even some earthiness could help maybe it could be a better beer all around, but I can’t give this high marks.
3.0 From World Market. Minerally more malty ale. Slightly bitter finish, OK. Serving: Bottle
3.1 Pours dark gold with a slightly off white head. There are some earthly aromas with alcohol, and slight fruit. There are earthly flavors with alcohol and slight cherry and sugar. It is rather heavy and thick with minimal bitterness in the finish. Overall, an interesting beer with the earthly flavors dominating and the sweetness of fruit is in the background.
3.0 Bottle from Chevy Chase Wine and Liquors. Sure, a bit late for Christmas beer. But enjoyable nonetheless. Copper body with large head. Nose is floral, malty. Taste fruits, spices. Creamy texture. Good finish.
3.0 Bottle to tulip glass. Alcohol and grainy malt. Moderate floral aroma. Clear honeycomb and full white head that leaves quickly. Taste us a little oxidized.
3.3 Brown color . Thin , beige head . Malt , caramel , nuts , some fruits in aroma . Rather sweet in taste . Good, malty beer, although very light as for the strong ale.
3.1 Raisin sweet aroma with some musk and wood scents. Ale is standard but had the very light spice of a Xmas style. Not bad, not amazing. Good and in bottle.
3.2 Bottle from Total Wine bought during the holidays. finally got to it. Pours a golden amber with a small head. Aroma is malty caramel and breads. A hint of apples and pears. Slight spice. Finishes matly and a hint of bitterness. Medium mouth, weird aftertaste. It is OK.
3.3 Not a bad beer but perhaps too light for an strong ale, similar to a malty beer with some hops and perhaps orange or spices notes.
2.3 Bottle. Very over priced for such a bad beer. Color was copper in color with a nice head. Aroma was pickled barley. Taste, straw, very bitter but the nasty kind of bitter.
3.3 Slightly hazy dark copper with a big sticky sweet nose, toffee and fig pudding. Nice earthy and mellow sweet flavor with toffee and dry biscuit. Finished a bit watery with English toffee malt. Decent and sweet but not memorable.
3.0 11/7/2012. dark amber with a white head. Caramel, malt and dried fruit aromas. Citrus, malt, toffee flavors with a light bitter finish. A bit bland.
2.6 Look: copper color. Bright white head. Kind of a cold haze. Smell: vinegar. Apples. Flowers. Taste: red Apple. Vinegar.bitter Feel: dry. Medium carbonation. Overall: very much an English style ale. With English flavor. First drank: home 12/4/14
3.2 Hazy dirty copper to amber pour with a two finger soapy off white head. Aroma is sweet tree fruit, floral and fruity hops, a little toast, toffee and spicy hops. Flavor is toast, light nutty notes, light toffee, and some spicy, citrus, earthy and tea-like hops. A little metallic in the finish. Light to medium body, with a slightly chewy, but crisp entry, medium sharp carbonation and dry, crisp finish. Pretty good overall, nothing to really stand out about it, solid, fairly clean, but flavorful.
2.8 "perfume like aroma a little off putting at first, but grew on me. Not a bad beer or a very good beer - a little on the boring side, as unfortunately most Ridgeway beers seem to be. Shared this one with a friend..."
3.2 500ml bottle. Pours a medium amber, with a white head. Hoppy, floral aroma, caramel, soap,. Yeast, toffee, earth. Off-dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2. Floral, malty, hoppy taste, toffee, dried apricots, caramel, grass. (2014-01-24)
2.4 Light brown cloudy appearance. Not much head or lacing. Slightly bitter, not much aroma, some hint of cinnamon.
2.8 Poured from a bottle. Slight haze golden color, small white head. Not much of an aroma. Very light body sweet malt flavor not much of a finish.
1.9 Not much of an aroma but a nice amber colour but not much head. Sour taste with out at a distinctive flavor. Yeasty palate.
3.4 Bottle at Amaranten. Pours amber with a white head. Drinkable nice ale, malty and lots of oranges.
3.5 citrus and butterscotch aromas, red-brown with a small head. taste light bitter. great palate with a fine aftertaste.
2.8 Bottle from Plonk. Dark golden, caramel malt, mildly spicy, some citrus, grainy. Nothing special.
11,8,8,7,13,8 - 8,40 - 23/5/13
3.0 A - 1 finger of cream colored head with nice retention. Copper/amber body with a slight haze. Tight patterns of lacing. S - Bready biscuit malt, very yeasty, fruity alcohol, faint citrus. T - Bready and malty with a dose of grassy hops upfront. Fruit breathes in through the middle along with a slightly buttery caramel malt. Finishes crisp with grassy hops and steely caramel left on the palate. M - Medium body, medium carbonation. Not really Christsmasy, this could be enjoyed anytime of year. Easy drinking and good looking. The alcohol shows up but is subtle and adds dimension. Serving type: bottle 12-11-2011
3.0 500 ml bottle sampled in 2009. Dark golden body with a big, dense off-white head. Light aroma of caramel malt with a hint of citric fruit. Flavor is light malty with fruit and moderate bitterness. Medium body and moderate in aftertaste. Pretty straight forward.
