Rivertown Lambic

Rivertown Lambic

Beer is typically fermented in a very calculated, controlled manner with pure strains of brewers’ yeast. Our award winning lambic beer is instead fermented by exposing it to the untamed yeasts and bacteria that are native to our Brewery. We affectionately call this unrestrained, wild amalgamation our House Funk. This blend is unique to Rivertown and this unusual, spontaneous process, involving over a year of fermentation in oak wine barrels, is what gives this beer its distinctive flavor; dry, funky, vinous, and cidery, with a crisp, sour aftertaste that will continue to develop in the bottle for years to come.

3.5 Pour out of 22 oz bottle, slightly hazy golden pour with white head, aroma brought notes of cracker, bread into a bit of yeast, hints of tart lemon, slight oak, touch of funky earth. Taste was a mix of earth, funk, grass into some lemon, lacto notes with a touch of bready, doughy notes, finishing fairly tart. Pretty tasty, but not very complex.
4.0 (bottle - 22 oz - 2011 vintage) Clear copper pour with not much in the way of a head. Tart as hell in the nose with a lot of dry fruits and grassy notes. Flavor is tart and sour as well. Some mild cider notes with a dry sour finish.
3.8 Bottle at home with my wife. Pour is clear orange with a big white head and decent lacing. Funky, lemony, somewhat cheesy, lemon peels, light grass, sweet tarts, and oaky aroma. Taste is lemony, urine, some cheese, grass, biscuit, some wood tones, citrus peels with a medium sour finish. Medium body with carbonation. Would love a little more funk, but damn tasty nonetheless.
2.9 Funky sweet aroma. Pale golden in color with no head. Not very tart; watery and light in body with a light brett aroma. Notes: GABF ’13
3.6 Pours hazy apricot with a thin eggshell head. Sour aroma is all fruit, all the time. Boldly sour flavor will make your face do aerobics! Pomme and citrus fruit, hint of sweetish malt. Texture is quite fizzy and rather firm. Go wild!
4.0 Shared at Ale Alpharetta. Nice, hazy, gold, with a thin grey ring. Lemon zest, hay, white sugar, mango, and cloves. Sweet and venous, with a great, mellow, tart character. Medium body, crisp, and clean. Overall, this is excellent. Great balance, and a fantastic flavor and body.
3.9 Bottle shared at the End of History tasting. Aroma of lemon juice, buttery oak, and some perfume funk. Pours blond and hazy with a small wispy white head. Taste is oaked chardonay, butter, oak, lemon, and a cheesy funky finish. Nice balance of tart and funky and the oak presence is definitely an interesting presence. Makes me want to try the Gueuze again.
3.5 750 ml bottle thanks to Willrunforbeer for sharing this 2013 vintage. Dirty hazy gold color. Aroma is dirty socks, horse blanket, moldy oak and a trace of vinaigrette. Flavor shows lactic sourness, old oak, dirty jock strap and straw. Tart and sour, it is what it should be. Chewy body with a very dry texture. Thanks for sharing Brian.
3.7 750 mL bottle supplied by WillRunForBeer - many thanks! To long-stemmed white wine glass, it pours a partially-hazy deep orange with which a white-ringed head half a finger in length stood, Aromas od Cortland apples, denim jeans, bosc pears, farmhouse yeast, and blueberry leaves. Tastes the same with the addition of plastic, lime meat, soy beans, and white wine lees. Soft and palateable.
4.1 Bottle shared at Radarsock’s. Pours golden peach with a scant orange white head. Aroma is lime, barnyard funk, grape skins. Taste is tart, lime, orange. Grapeskin and lime bitter in the finish.
3.6 2011 Nice golden peach color 1 finger head. Slight vinegar nose. Taste is peach, lime and kiwi with a brett like doughy taste.
3.8 With Z, pours an amber orange color with no head. Nose is fruity, with a nice funky sourness and tartness. Taste is ripe fruit with deep tartness and mouth puckering sourness, dry and delicious, with a cider like tannin finish. A real nice lambic ! Quaff Score 8 / 10
3.8 Bomber. Pours an amber orange with a dissipating beige head and tart, sour, fruity aroma. Taste is tart and sour up front, fruity and wine flavors throughout along with some funk leading to a dry, tart finish. Nice lambic
4.1 Bottle at End of History tasting. You know its far along in a tasting when i look at notes in phone and my review has a lot of cursing and spelling mistakes but I was able to translate and edit for television. orange pour and nose of brett and citrus. tastes amazing of the unblended thing i can’t put my finger on. you get florals, apricot, lime, and yeast. tart and refreshing. this is a great effort.
3.7 2011 bottle, thanks to drfabulous. Pale clear orangish pour. Aroma of barnyard, oak, acetone; rubber, cereal and light vinegar; some bubblegum as well. Light body and refreshing.
3.4 Bottle. Orange pour with white head. Light tart fruit, citrus, funky aromas. Flavors are not as nice sour tones.
3.4 Where and how: Tasting, Bottle 750 ml , 2012 Vintage Aroma cinnamon, red apple, vanilla, cherry, gooseberry and red beries. Sweet on top , tad too sweet. Appearance : Top: bright white top. Base: hazy golden with touches of amber, fine texture. Palate : lip smacking tartness, milder carbonation. Taste: peach , red apple. Interesting. other notes nothing exceptional but nicely made.
3.5 Poured from a bottle. Holy gusher!!!!! After 1 minute of it spewing all over the place. Murky to the point that it looks like ice coffee, with a small head. Very nice aroma consisting of chocolate, fruit and wine. Medium body with a strange sour fruit flavor and a mild cardboard finish.
3.4 Earthy aroma, with traces of wine, malt and fruit. Turbid cafe au lait colour with a fair amount of sediment. Mild taste, slightly tart, with undertones of Chardonnay, and tart apples. Creamy feel with a tart finish.
3.5 Bottle... Pours hazy and golden with no head. The bouquet offers a nice level of acidity, fruitiness and funk - lemon peel, leather and cherry SweeTart with a whisper of vanilla. Medium-bodied and watery with trace carbonation. The flavor and finish are watery and thin with a light tanginess. Enjoyable and refreshing, although unspectacular. Bottle shared by biggsbowler!
3.6 Rating #2500: bottle (2013) from Savor Growl. Gold pour with thin white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of funky brett, cider, dusty. Tastes are on the sweet side with lemon, green apple, zesty, little oak, grape, slight vinegar. Light to moderate sourness. Texture is slick thin to medium with just a tingle of carbonation late. Little dry in the finish.
3.8 Hazy yellow pour, small head. Oak, citrusy, funky aroma. Dry mouthfeel. Citrus, sour, oak, white wine, grape, barnyard. Easy drinking. Much thanks bob!
3.7 Smoothly drinkable lambic. Cherry and oak aroma. Cloudy fruity orange colour. Big mouthfeel. Dry finish. Good drinkability.
4.1 Bottle thanks to RJ5020, 2011 vintage - thanks! Pours hazy butterscotch, small white head, fizzy and disispates quickly leaving some lacing. Aroma is funky, basement must, horse blanket, very oaky, light lemon. Flavor is light plus tart, oaky, lightly funky - less than the nose would have indicated, a bit of fruitiness, perhaps white grape. Light body, sharp carbonation. Some lingering acidity. This is a pretty nice beer.
3.9 Mildly hazy light orange. Citrusy orange fruit and very tart sour aroma. Very sour, juicy yum flavor as well. More sour and tart the finish.
3.8 Bottle thanks to dextercat. Aroma of sour and more sour. Taste is more sour. Lips and jowls puckering... More sour.
4.2 Nice and sour. Great and tart on the palette. Definitely can’t drink a bottle by yourself.
3.6 2011-bomber. Dark gold pour with small head. Nose of musty fruit, lacto, and citrus. Taste follows the nose with some vinous qualities. Dry sour finish.
3.5 Bottle pours a slightly hazy golden/orange with a small white head. Aroma is sweet apricot and lemon with some funky musk. Pretty mild flavors, citrus and some wine barrel presence, slight funk and sourness. Enjoyable, but almost a little watered down compared to Belgium lambics, still enjoyed it!
3.8 22 oz. bottle, pours a hazy golden orange with a small beige head. Aroma brings out wine barrels, oak, and Belgian yeast. Flavour is more like a saison, with a very feint lambic quality, some Belgian yeast, and light funk. I get what they’re trying to do, but it really isn’t a traditional lambic at all. Pretty damn awesome though for what it is. Delicious beer, despite it not being a typical lambic. Great stuff.
