4.0 Coppery amber orange in color with a whitish head. Punchy and full with a bitterness in the finish. Hoppy with a bit of spice and a little citrus in the flavor. Nice, strong, and would go with a variety of meals.
3.0 Bottle shared at the 6th annual Richmond Industry Gathering, 11/27/11. Pours a hazy amber color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of caramel malts, bitter hops and some toastiness. The taste is bitter hops and pale malts. Medium bodied.
3.7 22 oz bottle. Pours a hazy orange-brown with minimal head. Leaves a lot of nice sediment. Fairly hoppy, it’s nice.
3.7 Pours a clear copper color with an off-white creamy head. Aroma of pine, caramel, and hops. Caramel sweetness upfront with a strong hop bitter ending. Hints of citrus throughout. Medium body. A big beer!
3.9 Semblable à la hopsecutioner. Bel équilibre entre le malt crystal et le houblon.
3.6 pours a slightly cloudy orange color with a head that leaves a thin film on top. aroma is a bit boozy hint of grapes along with some typical citrus hops. Mmmm caramel malts mix well with the hops used to make a deliciously bitter beer. taste is a bit piney. very cheap beer but not cheaply made. a steal for the price.
3.6 Bottle:   Caramel in color, very hazy, slightly dirty, moderate to large frothy white head, nice lacing.   Strong powdery nose, very strong, slight caramel, smidgen of sweetened resiny goodness.   Has a pinch of candied citrus peel too.   Smooth on the tongue, very smooth.   Malty, with some very powerful yet dull resinous characteristics.   Seems a little dank and basement like as well.   Backside has a bit more hop bite, but its not very bright.   The back of my tongue does feel the bite, but its not sharp.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Interesting, yet somewhat strange brew.   Thanks Jeff for the bottle!
3.6 Pours a hazy dark amber color with a stingy white head that dissipates quickly to a ring. Smells of earthy herbal resinous hops with a twinge of buttery pale malt. Judging from the aroma this isn’t like an ESB I’ve had before. Taste is malty up front for a couple of milliseconds before the hops assault my palette with all they’ve got. Bitter herbal resinous citrus hop bite infused with pale and maybe a hint of toffee. Bitter dry finish. Medium body, bitter resinous mouthfeel, medium level of carbonation. Pretty good Ipa, but it could probably use a bit more malt backbone. I’m not sure I would ever attach a British style designation to a clearly American take on a beer. I enjoyed it.
3.5 (Bouteille via rodenbach99, marci mon Gerry!)
3.6 I echo the sentimenta of the poster before me, this reminded me of an ipa. Citrus bitterness with caramel adding a touch of sweetness to the finish. Very solid.
3.6 Good beer. I’m not sure what to think of the style--doesn’t an extreme ESB really become an IPA? This really tastes like a thick, creamy double IPA. I guess it’s just an observation since I don’t really care as long as it’s good and this is. Thick malty backbone, lots of grapefuit hop, medium dry bitter finish.
4.2 What a phenomenal beer. Smell is of hops and citrus; taste is fairly sweet, very slightly bitter. It has a very sticky, heavy mouth-feel. It’s very hard to label this an ESB... definitely a stretch on Rock Art’s part. But who cares? This beer is great, whatever you want to call it--Imperial ESB or American Strong Ale.
3.5 Dark amber/cider color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of floral hops, caramel, & some fruit; Flavor of malt, pepper hops, some caramel, and citrus (notably grapefruit); Finish is bitter; Nicely balanced; The alcohol is fairly well hidden; This is more of an IPA, but good overall.
3.6 Bottle. Hazy copper orange with very small off-white head. Aromas of biscuit, caramel, pine, citrus, pepper, red fruit. Flavors of biscuit, caramel, pine, citrus, red fruit, pepper. Slightly dry finish with hop attenuation. Salty. Medium-full body with slick mouthfeel and moderate, low carbonation. One of the first "big" beers I had back in the day.
3.0 Cloudy orangish bronze color with a beige head that leaves good lacing. Piny hop aroma with some bread notes as well. Initially bitter, but followed up with an overwhelming maltiness and has an interestingly sticky resinous finish. Like others have mentioned, it doesn’t really taste like an ESB, more like an IPA. Either way, judging as an ESB, or IPA, it’s a decent beer.
3.7 Deep golden color with a nice lacing head. Piney, citrus hops on the nose with a matching bitter flavor. Hefty bitterness on the back of the tongue and it lingers. More like an IPA than an ESB in my opinion, but still pretty tasty.
2.9 Apricot color with white head. Aroma of citrus and taste is bitter. Light bodied with thin/oily texture. Bitter finish. Decent beer.
3.7 Had on tap at McGrath’s in Harrisburg A-pours a deep golden amber color that is pretty much opaque from the haze. Head is pure white and bubbly. S-the nose has a fair bit of wheaty malt, notes of orange juice with pulp, hints of caramel and grain with a floral hop backbone. T-toasted grains and caramel malt up front, pine and citric hops more towards the back. a fair bit of brown sugar and caramel roll in. a fair bit of citric hops in the back and a dank herbal presence. an assertive bitterness that lingers for a moment to finish this off. M-medium body and syrupy with a grainy tough texture. strong carbonation and a slightly messy carbonation in the finish. D-interesting beer, seems quite big almost american barley wine style. very balanced and interesting, huge flavors and hides the alcohol quite well. tasty treat.
3.7 Bottle pours hazy orange amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet with caramel/toffee, apple, grapefruit, and a good dose of earthy/citrusy hops. Flavor shows the same. Overall body is moderate to full, sticky, sweet, and finishes with a moderate to heavy bitterness. Pretty good stuff.
4.0 22 ounce bottle from Whole Foods in Portland, ME. Copper/amber with great lasting head and lace. Piney then citrus then caramel aroma Touch of caramel toffee medium fruity sweetness with bitter very dry resiny finish. Complex, assertive, strong, well-hidden alcohol. Way above expectations. This is a damn good beer.
3.7 (22 oz. bottle from Bootleggers) Pours hazy lightly reddish amber with two fingers of lightly yellowish off-white head. Rich aroma of caramel, rock-candy, pine and citrus. Mouthfeel smooth and lightly syrupy/sticky, a touch of fizziness. Tastes of caramel and rock candy overlain by pine and citrus. Medium bitter. Hint of chocolate as it warms.
3.4 Thanks to orlgamecock. Sweet aroma. Sweet taste. Lots of caramel. Not horrible.
2.8 Pours a clear dark gold color with a thin white head. Aroma of spicy, fruity hops. Flavor of spicy, fruity hops with a very strong and unpleasant bitterness.
3.9 a full brew for those who love beer! heavy farm fresh and caramel malt profile with a matched (though slightly less so) hop profile that includes citrus, flower and pepper in combination. not sweet it is highly flavorful and like i said over the top especially for the style. bit of funky broomstraw in the out matched flavors... this is a satisfier.
3.8 22 oz. bottle via trade with boamr - Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a good size off white head. Nice lacing. Aroma is cookie dough, light esters, and floral hops. Flavor is the fore mentioned malt with a nice bit of hops. Finish is fairly smooth with a bit of lingering hop bitterness. Medium body. A good beer. Thanks Ryan.
3.4 Pours a golden yellow with thin white head. Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of malt, honey, citrus, floral hops, spice, light floral esters. Flavor is about the same with a stronger hop presence. Medium body with a sweet floral hop presence.
3.7 22 ounce New Years present. Very cool bottle. The aroma is very hoppy. The initial taste is a startling blend of hops and spice. Very good. The hops are very apparently but well meshed together with a slightly malty finish. I like this one a lot!
3.5 Bottle. Pours a copper body with a white head. Sweet fruit esters citrus, grapefruit and some light apple. Coriander, earth, per-fumy hoppiness with a pine and caramel finish. Decent ale.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a bright transparent burnt orange color with a small off white head that recedes to a small film island and lots of sporadic lacing. Aroma contains spicy hops, some light fruit notes and some toasted malt notes. Palate is lightly fluffy with a dirty film left behind on the tongue. Flavors of spicy hop notes, light toasted malt notes. Finishes dirty with a heavy film and a mouth coating.
