Rodenbach Alexander

Rodenbach Alexander

Rodenbach Alexander was brewed for the first time in 1986 on the occasion of Alexander Rodenbach’s 200th birthday and is now back by popular demand to the delight of beer lovers in Belgium and abroad. It is a blend of 2/3rd aged Rodenbach (100% 2 year aged beer) with 1/3rd younger ale, macerated with sour cherries. The natural flavour and taste of sour cherries brings a perfect match between the sour beer and the red fruit. Its aftertaste is reminiscent of a Burgundy wine and its freshness makes this beer the perfect aperitif or accompaniment to cheeses or dessert.

Note: The 2016 version has the abv of 5.6%

4.4 330ml 5.6% abv at beergarden. Eugene. As MicroGrog observes, production date code is indecipherable. Garnet beer with less than average foam; clear because bottle condition dregs weren't poured. Gentle kirschwasser and Dr. Pepper nose. Pleasing tart rhubarb pie flavor. Outsize fruitiness washes away readily enough. Belgian oak-aged sour fruit beer this good ought to sell for double this price.
5.0 Лето. Зарплата. пятница. вечер. Завтра лететь на че-52 и кувыркаться в воздухе. Запах жидкости для снятия лака) но ооочень сука вкусно!
4.4 Been wanting to taste this for a while, but I couldn't bring myself to spend the $2 more than I usually spend for a beer, I was hoping somebody would give me one, but NO! So I bit the bullet and bought the alexander farm. Aroma is your typical rodie. Pour is lighter maroon. Taste is so good, its so civilized and has just the right amount of tartness. Its so yummy. Can't even tell there is alky in this yet I know it is a flemmy. Yes, these flemmy brews are quite nice and this is a prime example of doing it right. I'm glad we have a separate style for flemmish sours, they certainly don't belong, or taste anything like, any other sour or tart beer, wild or not. This stuff is the beez neez. Big thanks alexander. Really good overall beer tasting experience. Salaciously titillating.
3.9 Bottle 7/21 in Freising Germany. Redfish brown little head. Aroma of cherry, volatile acidity, Taste is slight sweetness balancing the sour. Quite excellent.
3.9 Bottle at share: pours red with white head. Aroma is cherry and light funk. Taste is fruity and lightly sour. Not acidic. Solid.
3.1 Typ körsbärssaft
4.0 Tart, rich, and fruity! Funky, complex aroma. All around impossible to miss, yet with a surprisingly low abv. Currants, sherry vinegar, and some holiday flavor.
4.2 Fajna psina jak na flandersa. Bardzo owocowe, czereśniowe, jagodowe, budyń wiśniowy, słodkie, ale też kwaśne, lekkie taniny. Pyszne

4.0 Colore rosso ambrato, schiuma media, fine poco persistente.
4.2 Bottle from Beyond Beer, 5.6%. Ruby red with a short-lived head. Nose is very natural cherry, deep and intense. The flavor is dry, complex, dark red cherry flavor with hints of caramel. Great body, a bit of natural sourness, clean hop bitterness with a hint of woodiness. Very nice layered complexity. A really excellent, natural cherry experience.
3.3 Lysebrun med rødligt skær. Duft af kirsebær. Lækker juicy, læskende øl. Dejlig surhed, der perfekt afbalanceres i eftersmag. Rigtig fin bittersød eftersmag
4.2 Nice fruit
3.1 Four pack from Appalachian. I can't make out these crazy bottling codes. Duvel glass @home. Syrupy, maroon pour, opaque, but filtered. Pretty pink head. Smells of cherry cordial, oxidized port wine, breakfast cereal, savory cooked veggies. Rich port upfront, acidic, earthy & slightly medicinal cherries in the middle, malic acid, Spite, browned grease & vinegar on the finish. Some chalky yeasties & their accompanying flavors as the second pour arrives. Taste is more murky than complex. Well carbonated, but rich, sticky & not particularly boozy. I think I enjoy(ed) regular Rodenbach more. It's been a while though.
3.1 Light brown colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have a sherberty sweet and sour tang. Finish is surprisingly sweet too.
4.3 Mine 11.2oz bottles, 5.6% abv, so the renewed version. A four-pack from Wegman's in Mt. Laurel. Production date JD 1.141 14 21:36. Had started to really get into beer not long after this one was discontinued, and it developed a mythical, legendary reputation in those first years. Not a gusher. Nose is beautiful dusty cherry, lightly tart, strong but dry with a high-quality wood foundation. Pour is that winning brown-orange-ruby that collects to clear ruby in the glass and supports a foamy, pink-tinged off-white head. Taste strongly sweet (with no bitterness) but not cloying and balanced immediately but sub-puckering sour -- again, strong acid content but not bracing, rather full and meaty. Full body but not fat, not particularly carbonated but has foamy slip with the silk. Alcohol isn't noticeable at all. Sour cherry flavor is excellent and persistent without accumulating burn or fatiguing the buds. Just a hint of lemon / lactic. Low-lying base of lightly scratchy oak is perfectly dialed-in, subtle vanilla and no whiskey lactone, just dry enough to exert some gravity on the sweet-sour combo, but without tannins or astringency. Hints of apple and dark grape in the lovely fruit profile, very juicy aftertaste. Very bright and fresh, no staleness anywhere, as if it were tapped yesterday. Unsure of how close this is to the legend but it really doesn't matter to me; it's significantly repeatable and moreish despite emitting such bold flavor, something of a monster as a daily drinker. Don't pass up the opportunity to try some. [2021.12.21: 4.3]
4.1 Brownish-tinted red with a slightly pinkish white head that fades fast to a slight rim. Aroma is wild cherry. Taste is a cherry flavor bomb. Juicy and not overly sour. Some malt. Quite Cloying and decently carbonated. Pretty amazing.
4.3 750 ml bottle that I received as a gift 3 years ago. Pours a reddish brown with a thin off-white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Lovely aroma of sour cherry with notes of balsamic vinegar and some caramel. The flavor is lovely with malt, caramel and sour cherries all present with just a bit of balsamic vinegar. The balance between sweet and sour is spot on. Clean and bright on the palate. An excellent beer.
4.0 Dark brown reddish colour with a small head. Aroma: tart, sour berries, malt, some yeast, some roasted malt, cherry. Taste: sour berries, tart, cherries, malt, some green apples, fermented fruits (kombucha, vinegar like), some honey sweetness, oak.
4.2 Clear red. Aroma is balsamico cherries sweet malty juice with sweet dark honey and a little lacto. Taste is sour and sweet berry with sweet malty base. Balsamico as well. Nice.
4.2 Bottle from Bine & Vine. Pours dark cherry with a moderate foamy beige head. Aroma of slightly musty wood and tart fruits of the non-dark sort. Med body at least. Flavor starts with mildly sweetish cooking cherries, develops musty wood, and finishes cherry tart/sweet with emphasis on the tart. Refreshing. I could drink this all day.
3.9 26.6.2021: 330 ml bottle at home, 5.6% ABV, bb. 25.12.2020, bought at La Mise En Biere, Lausanne. Pours a hazy dirty looking dark amber to light copper with an off-white head. Aroma of acetic notes, balsamic vinegar, tart cherries, sweet dark cherries, wood, oak, apples and hints of sweeter red fruits. Medium to medium-full body with a soft to average carbonation, a medium sourness and a light but surprising sweetness. The flavor starts lightly acidic with sour cherries, sweet ripe dark cherries, cherry syrup, sugar, light acetic notes (less prominent than in the smell), wood, oak and tannic notes. Becomes dryer towards the finish with more wood and a light acetic kick. Finishes with a light residual sweetness and tart wood. A nice cherry ale with a surprisingly high residual sweetness but also light acetic notes to stay well balanced. Aroma: 8 Appearance: 4 Taste: 8 Palate: 4 Overall: 15
4.2 (Bottle) Dark reddish amber colour with frothy, tan head. Fruity nose with cherries, red apples, blood orange, wood, hazelnuts and spices. Fruity, tart taste with notes of cherries, oak wood, blood orange, spices, a touch of marzipan and a mild touch of balsamic vinegar in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and well balanced, with a milder acidity than the Grand Cru, but a refreshing cherry character. Lovely beer.
5.0 33 cl bottle from Labirratorium, stated as 5,6%, BB 14/08/23, served in a gorgeous Villeroy & Boch long-stemmed flute, as if it were a pink champagne (which it resembles.) A copper to vermillion clean pour with a pinkish foamy head, almost no retention, that leaves but a ring. Little to no lacing. Very intense nose, reminiscent of what it promises: sour and Morello cherries, along with bubblegum, wild yeast, hay, earth, a little clay, subtle leather... Dry, very dry; but not bone-dry. Tart and tangy, but not as light-bodied as I expected. Slick, mouth-covering, leading to more tartness and a slight but noticeable bitterness as it approaches the throat. Very long-lasting aftertaste, with renewed tinges of cherries and a new note of strawberry, all having a dialogue with a tad of reddish soil after the rain. Boy, is this delicious!
4.4 Murky brown with a medium sized creamy tan head. Tart and tangy with notes of cherry, wood and soy sauce. Very long finish. Moderately full bodied.
4.2 Absolutely wonderful aroma. Sweet vinegar notes with granny smith apples and the obvious cherry addition. Maybe even a hint of warm caramel. Deep garnet-red beer with an interesting tan to pink head. Persists on top but not fluffy. Definitely tart, you can feel the salivary glands squeeze with the first sip. Early it is almost cherry kool-aid but less sweet and then the sour character quickly asserts itself. Slightly astringent but less so than the grand cru from this brewer. Long fruity finish. Doesn't have a ton of body. Very crisp and clean like a bite of a fresh apple off the tree.
3.6 Lightly frothy fruit ale blended by 2/3 Rodenbach ale aged 2 years in oak barrels and 1/3 younger ale. As expected, the taste is of course cherry. It has a long and deep taste of slightly sour cherries with a little oak at the bottom of the flavor spectrum. It also offers a long aftertaste and can be enjoyed cold as an aperitif. I find it very tasty and full-bodied, even though I am not a top fan of cherries.
4.4 Rubinowy/brązowy kolor, drobnopęcherzykowa piana, raczej obfita. Aromat winny, wiśniowy, minimalnie ocet, beczka. Jednocześnie kwaśnie i słodko, owocowo, na pierwszym planie oczywiście wiśnia. Posmak (średnia goryczka) długo się utrzymuje.
4.5 Cherry. Fruity. Berries. Not too sour. Some oak. Light tart. Tasty! Well balanced, well done. Love it!
