Rodenbach Caractère Rouge

Rodenbach Caractère Rouge

The brewer allow the beer to macerate with fresh cherries, raspberries and cranberries. After this maceration in oak, the beer re-ferments in the bottle. The result is RODENBACH Caractère Rouge, an exceptional RODENBACH with fruit maceration and a 7% alcohol volume. The brew is more than unique and extremely exclusive, as only 900 75-cl bottles were produced. Geunes serves this wilful beer as part of his other unique range of beer varieties in his restaurant, ’t Zilte, at the Antwerp MAS museum.

4.0 Reddish, clear color and a small white head. Descent sour-fruity. Very well balanced. Good work, guys.
3.9 Bottle from Highland 2-17-15
4.0 Ar: sweet, raspberry, red fruits Ap: pale orange, no head T: med sweetness, fruity slight tart finish P: light body
3.8 Deep red, hazy with a medium pink head. A fruity and red berries aroma. Medium sour, with some sweetness with a fresh fruity ending. Nice and complex. 1 yr anerversary with wife. 31.08.2020
5.0 This beer is a majestic balance between a red beer and fruit beer. It macerated six months with cranberries, raspberries and cherries, before this process it had matured for two years on oak casks. The aroma is just mind blowing, violets, caramel. Slight tobacco flavor. Little tangy but in a perfect balance of dry, sour and sweet. Truly a remarkable product.
4.2 7%ABV. Flanders red Poured out reddish-amber 16°SRM. Nose has aromas of blackcurrants, raspberries and blackberries. Other berry aromas are boysenberry, gooseberry, and maybe a hint of strawberries. There are some basenotes of old barrel aroma that suggest balsamic vinegar, wood, and a hint of barnyard funk suggesting dirty straw and animal. Mouthfeel is light with active carbonation. There is the impression of juiciness because of the fruity sour. The sour is not puckering nor bracing and tops off the mouthfeel so very very nicely. Palate has flavors of biscuit and graham crackers as basenotes. There is an inherent bread-like character to the malt palate that suggests toast, bread crusts, and pie crusts. This is not to say that the palate is heavy or starchy, but these are more flavor impressions. The sour is mellow, round, and fruity. Hop flavors are woody, leafy, muted, and may have a bit of cheese-like character with a bit of mustiness. Finish is clean, light, refreshing. This bottle was designed to be sipped, quaffed, then repeated till empty too soon. Overall, another excellent example of what craftsmanship is and where the intimate knowledge of one thing can result in goodness and joy for the rest of us. Pairing suggestions would be Gouda, something blue and veiny, something a little strong, like a Limburger. Raisins, dates, apricots...I’m thinking a cheese platter. Local food suggestions might include roast pork belly (siew yoke), rojak, satay, ngoh hiang, sardine epok. I really really liked this one and the feeling that I was left with was anticipation of my next Rodenbach epiphany.
3.9 Pours clear cranberry red with a small white fizz. Aroma is cranberry and sweet raspberry with a small tart. Taste is tart sweet raspberry with the bitter cranberry. Big pucker and big enjoyment
3.6 exp. 22/11/2020 Aroma is nice, lots of berries, lactose, some earthy and tarty aromas and a hint of wet cat. Rodenbach style is very present in the mouthfeel and taste; the complexity is present as expected and balances out nicely with the fruits. Slight lactose and medium low tartness. The impression, however, was that this particular bottle wasn't in the greatest shape, with an unstable sweetness, and it's not the first time with Rodenbach. Looking forward to trying it again...
4.4 Excellent sour/red ale. Not that high vinegar profile and a lovely fruity character. Fine deep red pour with a decent head on top Looks nice and inviting Pleasant and fine aroma with a good intensity Balanced acidity and sweetness Fruity, oak, vinegar, almonds and berries in the flavor [Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Halden, Norway]
3.4 75cl bottle at home. Aroma: both sour and sweet fruity elements. Also marzipan? Appearance: beautiful glowing red color. No foam to speak of, no lacing. Taste: first an rush of sweetness quickly followed by some perfectly balanced sour-sweet fruitiness. Some uncomfortable tartness too though. Palate: soft but astringent as the taste lingers in your mouth. Easy to drink but certainly not one dimensional. Overall: both sour beers as fruit beers are not really my style, but this one is lovely. It hits a prefect sweet- sour balance and the fruitiness feels real. Apart from the marzipan nothing feels artificial (note that I don’t think artificial automatically means bad)
4.6 Bottle from Rubin, many thanks! Gorgeous Flanders red. Decent sourness, dried plums and berries. Absolutely amazing. Great.
3.7 Bottled 750ml. -at Goblet Zagreb. Unclear amber coloured, minimal off-white head, light acidic cherries in the nose. Sourish and acetic cherry taste with notes of berries, yeast and cork with dry sourish finish. Bit too fruity for my taste but decent brew.
4.0 Draft. Pours deep pink-amber. Sour cherry and raspberry aroma. Raspberry and cherry upfront followed by sour pinch and some cranberry dryness in the finish. Medium-full body.
4.0 Tulip showing deep red with sparse white foam. The nose shows moderately intense bright cherry and light cranberry. The palate is well carbonated and light bodied. Lightly tart and lightly sweet with moderately intense notes of sweet cherry and raspberry. Mildly sweet and light. Very nice.
3.8 Copenhagen 25/1 2019. 75 cl bottle from Ølhandleren in Give (webshop). Bottle all dressed in red. Sporting a gold and silver medal from World Beer Awards. Apparently the "Worlds Best Flavoured Beer" 2016. Pours almost clear red with a small pink head. Bubbly. Disappears really fast. No lacing. Aroma is sharply intense. Unripe berries, vinegar, green apples. Sweet red cherries lurking in the background. Acerbic quality. Light carbonation. Sticky, oily, slightly thick texture. Flavor is sour followed by a more moderate but notable fruity sweetness. Aftertaste is sour sweet. Lingering. Nicely balanced. The sweetness gets stronger as the beer warms up. I am no great fan of Fruit Beer but this one is not overdoing it. The fruit provides an nice sweet backbone that can balance the strong sourness. Nice one.
2.2 0,75 liter bottle. It's an ok beer, but it won't become a regular in my fridge.
Aromas dulces a madera, azúcar y fresquísimos aromas a frutos rojos (frambuesa, grosella, fresas, cerezas).
4.3 Pours a cloudy, deep, dark ruby red coloration with a tiny, fizzy head that fades to nothing almost instantly. Smells absolutely intoxicating of vibrant, tart red berries and musty, old oak, with just a hint of tannins and vinegar coming through as well. Taste is a perfect balance of juicy, vibrant, sweet and tart red berry notes of cherry, raspberry and cranberry, with each really standing out on their own, and a strong barrel-character of earthy, old and slightly tannic oak, as well as some light, musty mushroom funk and just a hint of balsamic vinegar. Finishes quite tart, but not overwhelmingly so, with some vibrant red berries, musty oak and a touch of tannins and vinegar lingering in the aftertaste. Full, effervescent mouthfeel with a medium body and medium/strong carbonation. A fantastic Flanders Red Ale that just showcases a perfect marriage of vibrant, fresh fruit and musty, old oak, with a perfect balance of sweet and tart notes and a wonderful richness and complexity added by some lighter, vinous, funky and acidic notes that all come together to form a sublime drinking experience. Also stands heads and shoulders above the way too sweet and one-dimensional Rodenbach Alexander thanks to a much richer and more well-balanced depth of flavor.
4.0 Pivo u flaši. 0,75 l Hvala Zvonetu na poklonu. Ovako po seljački. Voda , ocat i šećer , malo gazirano.. .. a po gospodski... Slatkasto kiselkasta aroma , mješavina aceta balsamica i višnje..
Lots of cranberry, some cherry, quite tart. Quite tasty, if a bit too sweet.
4.1 Intensywny aromat czerwonych owoców, potężne maliny, wiśnia, żurawina. Zdecydowanie klarowne.
4.0 Z notatek 11 WFP. Piwo ciemnoczerwone, zamglone. Piana szybko redukuje się do koronki. W aromacie owocowo: wiśnia, żurawina. W smaku średnia kwaskowość, wiśnie, pestki, dochodzą czerwone jagody. Wysycenie i pełnia średnie.
4.0 Kran 0,33 l na Warszawskim Festiwalu Piwa. Kolor czerwony, zamglone.
4.4 Genialne, truskawka, derka, dzikie.
3.5 A big bottle shared at Sour Get-together 2019. Hazy amber, small off-white head. Aroma is wine, soft oxidation, malts, cherry or strawberry, light vanilla, acidity. Spice. Flavour is ripe fruit, caramel, fine oxidation. Slightly sweet.
3.4 Frisky forest taste with perfectly red color
