Rogue Beard Beer

Rogue Beard Beer

Beard beer is brewed with a yeast created from Brewmaster John Maier’s beard. No need to freak out, brewers have used wild yeasts in beer making for centuries. John has had the same old growth beard since 1978 and for over 15,000 brews, so it is no great surprise that a natural yeast ideal for brewing was discovered in his beard. What does beard beer taste like? try it, we think you’ll be surprised...

2.9 Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. Pours a golden amber with frothy off white head. Nose of stale fruit and a little citrus. Medium body. Flavor is light fruit and again light citrus. The finish is spicy and yeasty. OK drinking but overall underwhelming. Not up to the standards you expect from Rogue. The best part was the etched bottle with the big beard.
3.4 Bottle. Yeast and orange peel aroma. Pours a cloudy dark golden in colour with a large and frothy off-white head. Pine, cloves, and citrus/orange flavours. Creamy full bodied texture. Bitter citrus finish.
3.4 Bottle shared at Craft Beer Co. Islington - London. Many thanks to Daniel! Pours clear gold with a white cream topping. The nose holds mellow rindy citrus, faint pine. Moderately sweet, with notes of dry white bread, biscuits, jammy citrus fruits. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet, sugary finish, with more doughy white bread, vague fruits. Simple, enjoyable.
3.7 In the realm of beer tasting there are a few beers that one should (must) try out of principle. Rogus Beard Beer is one of those special legend beers that palate wise earn an extra point. Beer brewed out of the yeast of a beard has a canabalistic and curious element. The beer is not overwhelming but heck it nevertheless is a legend of a beer.
3.6 Bottle at home, 03/08/16. Mail order from that place in Lille. Sweet and subtle aroma. Floral. Fruit. Deep amber. Initial frothy white head retreats to rear guard action around the inside of the glass and a whisp across the top. Bitter sweet, with more of the former in the dry finish. Light and frothy mouthfeel. Again I’d go for subtle. I like it. One thing I would add - the Ratebeer profile refers to 5.6% ABV, however the bottle states 4.8%.
2.9 July 2016 - Bottle share at Craft Beer Co Islington as ’Rogue Beard Beer’, picked up in London. The premise is that it’s made using yeast found in the brewer’s beard, though I’m not sure that justifies the extra ££££age! Pours clear orange, still, lightly sparkling, foamy off-white head. Aroma has some light banana ester, pear drops, tangerine. Body is a little foamy with soft carbonation. Taste is light biscuity malt, touch estery, not much going on, watery fruits, bready sugars. Has a nice balance between beard and beer. Glad I tried it to satisfy curiosity. (2.9)
3.5 Bot led. A hazy yellow beer with a yelowish head. The aroma has notes of malt, straw, and fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of fruit, malt, and spices, leading to a dry finish.

2.8 Bottle at Craft Islington, big thanks to Daniel. It pours clear amber with a thick white head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, white bread, candy, soft sweetness, banana and stewed orange. The taste is crisp, bitter - sweet upfront, banana, candy, apple, barnyard, earth, straw, pear and melon with a sweet finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Fun to try, but overall its way too sweet for me.

3.0 Sour with Belgian yeast aromas come from this hazy blonde brew with no head. Crisp full bodied sweet with a slight tart and almost like a black pepper taste (not spice). There is a typical Belgian ale taste.
3.5 Draught at Arcadium. Basic pale ale in color and taste. Some citrus notes. Fine, but nothing out there via beard yeast.

3.3 Draft from Prison Hill Brewing in Yuma. All the necessary stuff for this to qualify as a Belgian Ale. Just not enough of it to make it spectacular. Better than some of the stuff I had tonight.
