3.6Tap at tdr. Hazy orange amber with a medium bubbly off white head. Aroma of floral and citrus hops, caramel malt and light fruity notes. Flavor the same, lots of tea notes and that classic Rogue yeast.
4.0Cask Stillage at the GBBF Earl’s Court, London 08/08/2008
Very hoppy aroma. Amber coloured and very hoppy with a pine fruit flavour. Crisp and slightly bitter lasting malt finish.
3.0Cloudy amber with a small white head. Malty and fruity aroma with somke yeast and a hint of alcohol. Dry and malty flavour with alcohol and hops in the finish
3.2On tap at the brewery on 6/28/09. Pours a solid amber, mild head. Citrus and vanilla aroma. Not incredibly complex, but well balanced and drinkable.
2.8Tan body with a frothy head. Delicate honeydew and malt aroma. Mild honey malt body with with moderate alcohol heaviness accompanied by some funk blow-off. Floral alcohol tendrils unwrap as the experience lenghthens.
3.1pint @ Tyler’s Apex. Ok aroma, sweet, orange, honey, butter, grapefruit as it warmed. Hazed brownish orange color, good head and lace. Bitter sweet flavor. Medium body, smooth creamy mouthfeel, bitter finish. Not too crazy about this, found it harsh and unappealing in both aroma and flavor, Flavor in particular made it tough to finish, just harsh and pretty much enjoyably, oh well.
4.0One of my favorites of the Rogue Brews. Pours a pale orange with a thin head. Aromas of caramel and grapefruit floral hops. Tastes spicy, with citrus flavors and a bit of sweet caramel vanilla balanced by the bitter spicy hop finish.
3.6Poured an orange/amber
1/2 finger off white head
Smells of cut grass and floral hops
Taste is really spicy, sweet caramel and bready body.
Residual sweetness.
2.5Draft. Pours a ruby golden amber body with an off white head. oaky, vanilla and pine with a vodka body and unrefined sugars i thought this was horrendous and only had a few sips, maybe bottom of the keg?
3.8Source: On tap at Kelleher’s Irish pub.
Glass: Poured into a standard pint glass.
Appearance: Poured a clear orange color with a one finger off white head.
Aroma: Caramel malt and floral hops.
Flavor: Spicy. Grassy hop finish. Sweet caramel malt body.
Palate: Medium/full body with soft carbonation and a solid mouthfeel.
Overall: Very good. Rarely am I disappointed by a Rogue beer.
3.8On tap at Barley’s. Hazy amber orange with a lasting off white froth. Aroma of caramel, citrus and grapefruit hops. Taste is caramel, toasted malts, fruity esters, then some grassy spicy and citrus floral hops with a lingering bitter finish.
3.6On tap at Capital Ale House - Downtown on 02/23/2009. Clear copper amber body with a medium frothy off-white head. Sweet caramel and honey aroma with floral and earthy hop notes. Sweet tea flavor with some earthy and floral hops and a mild caramel background. Medium body with moderate carbonation.
3.4Draft pours a deep golden and slightly red color with a ton of carbonation. Big earthy hop aroma. Very herbal and slightly dirty smelling. Some sweetness in the aroma too. Typical Rogue flavors. Medium body and again an earthy hop bitterness. Not too over powering but not backed up with the sweetness and body. Slight unpleasant aftertaste. Just another Rogue, IMO.
4.0draft a capital ale house downtown. pretty rare find for the east coast. pours a slightly cloudy/unfiltered reddish/copper with a thick white head and solid lacing. bright, clean, hoppy aroma that was very grassy with hints of lemon, apple, and floral notes with a sweet, crystal malt background. flavor was delicious and slightly spicy with very grassy, piney hops, grapefruit rind, and a light, caramel sweetness. leaves a big bitter kick on the tongue. palate is bright and highly carbonated with just a slight alcohol presence. overall, a damn nice big beer from rogue i’m glad i had the chance to try.
3.3(11/6/08) Draught at The Drafting Room in Spring House. Thanks for the sample Jeff! Hazy amber. Sweet malt, fruits, yeast, a bit of honey and nice spicy hops in the finish. Not bad.
3.6On tap at 1702 - Pours a hazy golden color with a thin white head. Nice lacing. Aroma is floral hops. Flavor is mostly hops with just enough malt backing to call it a beer. The finish is quite bitter. Medium body. If you like the hops, you will like this one.
3.6On tap at Tylers, Durham. Pleasantly surprised by this one, one of the best Locker Stock brews I have had in some time. A nice amber pour, slightly cloudy, with a thick creamy head. Sharp hop aroma, a bit grassy but with a tart yeasty note to it that almost beats out the malts. The taste is very intense, hop forward in a way that recalls the Bastard but with a smooth, sweet dimension on the back end. Nothing overwhelming but pretty damn nice.
4.0Pours a hazy, lighter auburn/orange body with a big cream colored, creamy head. Dissipates slowly and remains moderately lacy. Smells very fruity, grapefruit, heavy grass hops. Lightly sweet caramel malty aroma, but clearly and distinctly grassy. Very rough and powerful grass taste. Like a face plant into a sod farm. Medium sweetness, caramel, grapefruit and sour lemons, and an herbal/earthy character. Slightly yeasty, can tell this is made with their PacMan yeast. Palate is full bodied, softly carbonated, and oily. Lingers with a moderate bitterness for a good amount of time. Overall, very assertive grassy hops. Definitely seems like a beer with much higher IBUs than the 50 they claim in the description. For sure has that Rogue taste to it. Great balance between the full maltiness and hop bite. Really good, fresh tasting beer.
2.7On tap at the Knick. Mild sweet nutty nose. Caramel, light brown sugar. Sweet with mild alcohol and light fruity esters. Almost no hop presence. Medium orange-amber clear with foamy off-white dissipating head. Starts with mild sweet character and light alcohol warming. Thin profile, with decent level of bitterness throughout but growing stronger at finish. Not very complex. Bitter chalky after. Would not turn down but not likely to buy again.
3.6Pours a clear amber with a medium white head. Sweet caramel malts at first, quickly dominated by the hop flavor. Very smooth with a candy-like body and a delicious bitter finish. Light aroma of caramel and hops.
3.8On tap at Papago: Pours to a clear light amber body with a small, bubbly eggshell colored head. The aroma gives off caramel malt, mild apples, slight hint of pear, and a light fruity grapefruit hops. Taste is initally sweet light caramel, which is quickly taken over by grassy, bitter, grapefruit bright & fresh hops, which lead to a very slight alcohol flavor, but only if held in the mouth for longer than normal. Finishes with some sticky sweet residual sugar, caramel, and a lingering grassy grapefruit hops bitterness on the sides of the tongue. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, hard to believe this is only 50 IBU’s, according to the description - my taste buds put it closer to 80.
3.6Nice amber with a thick off white head. Aroma is malty, caramel, light alcohol, light hoppiness. Taste nice hoppiness matching with the maltiness and warming of the alcohol, caramel.
3.6Cask (gravity) @ Great British Beer Festival, GBBF 2008, Earls Court, London, England SW5.
Light unclear orange amber brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, pine, grapefruit, light alcohol. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a average to long duration. Bitternes is almost harsh acrid bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (080808)
4.0Draught at Brickskeller, Washington DC, as Glen 15th Anniversary Ale 2008
Cloudy brown color, creamy head. It has a very nice caramel and hop aroma. Powerful body, smooth mouthfeel; it has a dominating caramel flavor, with enough residual sugars) and an excellent American hopping; the malt is a bit harsh, flour-ish, almost with traces of wheat. Powerful final too, with a lot of hop resins, just thrown in. Big.
2.9Draught @ Cole’s. Hazy orange, not a lot of head or lacing. Hoppy nose. Brassy almost bock-like, lots of malt and hops and bread. The most muddled (almost dirty) Rogue I’ve had (a rogue Rogue?) and therefore strange and surprising.
3.2The ’08 edition. Golden-beige colour with some haze. Caramel and alcohol on the nose with lots of earthiness. Toasty palate with some caramel and hint of earth and lemon. A little astringent towards the finish, though.
3.5Tap @ redlight redlight. Pours a reddish/amber with a thin tan head. Caramel malt with some fruitiness, strong citrus and pine hops on the nose. Sweet with some grapefruit hop flavor then a smooth bitter finish. Remarkably easy drinking, doesn’t betray its strength at all.
3.3Draught @ Bittercreek - Poured dk orange with a decent sized off-white head, aroma is all hop, citrus, pine, call it what you will...flavour definitely follows with a nice hop bite, great alcohol presence tempered with a malty finish, good stuff...
3.5Draught at horse Brass, Poured deep amber orange with thin white head. Faint aroma of malt. . Full malty taste, with a lekker hoppy bite. Alcohol in the finish, but masked by the flavour
3.6On tap at Rustico in Alexandria VA. Served in an English Pint glass, pours a translucent, amber orange color with a frothy, lacing white head. Pleasant aroma, citrus, oranges, grapefruits, some pine, a little bit of brown sugar, pepper and field greens. Flavor is nice, more citrus, lemons and grapefruits, pink peppercorns, grass and honey on the tongue. Finish is bitter and a little syrupy. I enjoyed this a lot, I’d prefer this over many other Rogue offerings.
