Rogue Chipotle Ale

Rogue Chipotle Ale

Dedicated to Spanish author Juan de la Cueva, who, in 1575, wrote of a Mexican dish that combined seedless chipotles with beer: Chipotle Ale is based on Rogue’s Oregon Golden Ale, but delicately spiced with smoked chipotle chile peppers. Deep golden in color with a tight head, rich malty aroma, delicately smooth and crisp flavor, and subtle chipotle chili finish. Formerly known and packages as Mexicali Rogue, Chipotle Ale is created from Northwest Harrington, Klages, and Maier Munich Malts; Willamette and Cascade hops; and Smoked Jalapeno (Chipolte) Peppers. Chipotle Ale is targeted for spring release and available in a 22-ounce bottle and on draft. Blend it with Rogue Chocolate Stout and create a Mole’ black and tan!

3.3 Bomber from Total Wine, Gainesville. Slightly hazy deep amber with a small beige head. Aroma of citrus, smoke, and pepper. Flavor is definitely smoky, followed by some citrus, and finally some pepper heat. Kinda bland... was expecting more.
3.6 Pours a clear orange with a foamy white head. Smells of peat smoke, peppers. Taste is smoky sweet and spiced - chipotle peppers and bread.
3.2 Backlog, Bottle with Fantasia, pours a hazy red color with medium head. Smell and flavor are chemicals, hops, peppers, and light malt. You can definitely get the heat in the finish and aftertaste. Light bodied but can’t drink this one in any quantity. Small pours
2.9 Sample from a bottle at DØE 2016. Dark yellow colour with a white head. Aroma and flavour of malt, caramel, spice, pepper and chili.
3.6 Colore ambra con schiuma sottile bianca. Al naso un po? piatta, mentre al palato si avverte subito il peperoncino e una punta affumicata. Carbonazione media. Finale piccante.
2.2 Bottle. Pours golden brown but murky with very little head. No aroma over medium carbonation. Taste of tobacco with the mildest burn. Not a great ale.
3.5 First off I’m rating Rogue Farms Chipotle Ale, but was redirected here. 650 ml bottle poured at home. Pours hazy Amber color, with a slight beige head that died out very quickly. Smells like caramel or toffee. Taste was pleasant; there is a sweet taste at first but then the chipotle kicks in. Not overpowering like some other Mexican stouts I’ve had. It’s a good beer.
3.2 Tap@Taphouse, Copenhagen - dark golden pour with off-white head. Aroma and taste starts sweet malty with notes of caramel, but then the spicy peppery taste kicks in, some heat building, some smokey backing, touch to spicy sweet to drink in high amounts for me, but sample was interesting enough to try nonetheless.
3.5 Hazy tan orange in color... Aroma of light peppers, biscuity malts, caramel... Flavor is actually mostly biscuity and caramel malt forward, only slightly peppery... Solid
2.6 650ml bottle. Strong spiced flavors with a slight malt aftertaste. Having never tried Chipotle before I was not sure what to expect. Interesting beer but not quite to my taste.
2.4 Bottle, SX Bottle Share, 5/34/2016 Golden colour. Off-white lacing. Sheer Jalepenos on aroma. Some honey and spring dew as well. Taste is old school IPA, hot chili, hot finish. Meh. Not my kinda thing. Don’t really get this one. Sorry!
3.5 1 pint 6 fl oz/650 mL bottle poured to wine glass Aroma(3.5): malts-cereal, yeast: earthy, Appearance(3.75): amber, light brown, frothy, white foam, some lacing Taste(3.25): lightly bitter, with spicy follow through that stays on roof of mouth and tongue Palate(3.25):medium body, creamy, average carbonation, long finish, Overall(3.75): Good beer, can be repeated but not something to look forward to Drank: March 25, 2016
3.4 On tap at the Cambridge Winter Ales Festival 2016. Honey brown with a slight ring of white head. Aroma produces some chilli but also strawberry jam, cereal and wood shavings. Sweet-savoury chilli taste with a pronounced sour note in the finish. Slight pine and maple syrup suggestions as the sip slips away. Subtly warming chilli on the lips. Aftertaste is a bit glue-y, not sure about that. Good all in all and worth a try.
3.4 Bottle. Pours dark gold with a creamy thin white head. Aromas of sweet caramel malt and slight vegetables. Flavors are grass, smokey crackery notes, sweet malt, tobacco, vegetable notes and a slight hot pepper burn. Thin but creamy mouthfeel. Actually, a well-made beer, but the addition of chipotle peppers takes the flavor in a direction that isn’t terribly enjoyable. This reminds me of a rauchbier crossed with a lager. Without the peppers, this would be a pretty delicious ale.
3.1 Shared bomber poured to snifters, showing an orangey gold, almost amber color, with some soft white head foam that reduced expeditiously to a ring & film, and left some wavy lacing on the glass. The nose was light smoke & pepper that presented a bit of betadine/Band-Aid scent, with some light fruit involved. Medium bodied, with fair carbonation, the taste included moderate & lingering, earthy bitterness, with dryness, and "better late than never" pepperiness to the finish. Okay, but the introduction disappointed.
3.4 Pours clear copper color with off white head. Aromas of caramel and peppers with some smokiness. Smoked pepper flavor with slight heat and some caramel. Medium body with average carbonation. Better than I was expecting.
3.1 I love chipotle! Thin head, weak aroma, but sweet of anything. Some smokey. Flavor is of smokey chipotle, kind of spicy, but very mild. A bit of malt character comes through. Overall the chipotle dominates. Finished sweet, yet dry. Not bad.
2.6 Keg. Honey coloured with a thin white scum. Nose is honey sweet with a firey pepper. Taste is thin, a light lemon then a hit of pepper/paprika. A bit "meaty", but a but overly thin to excite. Burny, but not hot...
3.0 Enjoyed in glass poured from a 650ml bottle. Hint of spice, more akin to smoked paprika... or chipotle:) Some hops in there. It’s a drinkable ale. Goes well with bbq. Got better halfway through the glass... the 2nd. Something fun & different. It works. My 100th rating. Didn’t think it would take me this long. I like the journal aspect of ratebeer. Great work!
3.4 Pours a hazy copper colour with a short lasting white head. Light aromas of chipotle peppers and caramel. Not much else to say here. Flavours bring big, smokey chipotle up front which blends to salted caramels, and a light citrusy note. The smokiness lingers well into the off-sweet finish. Medium bodied. The beer is more smoke beer than chili beer with only the slightest hint of spice managing to build up by the bottom of the bottle.
3.7 22 Oz bottle pour split. Pours a clear copper color with a thin head. Orange fruit, and hops aroma. Drinks nice, with some good hop character and a very mild pepper spice. Pretty good pepper beer. Enjoyed it.
3.7 This was the 2nd beer of the night. It cost $6.50 at the local grocery store. Cheers!
3.2 Clear amber color with a minimal head. Malt forward with some green bell pepper on the nose. Average carbonation and medium-body. Taste is similar with a smoked taste and some mild hop bitterness with the pepper just kind of there. It doesn’t pack much of a punch as far as heat goes. Dry peppery finish.
3.4 Smokey flavor. Subtle gentle jalapeno. Crisp. Malty, but not sweet. This would go great with jalapeno crunchers. Pretty tasty.
3.3 Draught at CBM. Fun green pepper mouthfeel and smokey notes but the body is quite heavy, wouldn’t drink a full pint for sure. Good for meaty food pairing.
2.9 Não era exatamente o que esperava, mas até que foi uma boa experiência. Pensava em algo mais picante e surpreendente.
2.2 On the nose: nothing special but give it a few inhales and you’ll feel the pepper. Initial palate: tastes like novacaine. After a few mins tastes like an overhyped burrito from Chipotle. On the ropes with this, it’s dissapointing compared to the Sriracha beer they have. Overall not a winner
3.8 Bottle from Whole Foods Market in Redwood City, CA. Pours a burnt amber color with little head. Aroma is smoke, dried peppers. Taste is a little thin but a nice warming smoke / chipotle on the finish. Very nice with pork fajita stir fry.
3.5 650ml bottle (William K Kurvi, Helsinki) Smells old. No BB. Oxidised, but I don’t mind that at all. Mild sweet smokedness. Just in the late finish there’s some nice deeply roasted smoked chilli pepper. However no heat. Very simple but highly drinkable ale. Carbonation a bit high, but drinkability high. The spine of old books. More dusty dry chipotle later.
3.0 (Bottle, 0.65 l - BB info not found, 20150426) The beer poured deep amber and clear. Its head was medium sized and almost white. Aroma had malts, cardboard and bell pepper. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, smoke, sweetness, cardboard and bitterness. Aftertaste had burning sense from chilli and oxidized malts and low bitternes. Not an impressive brew at this point of ageing and I suppose it weren’t much better while fresher either.
