Rogue Chocolate Stout

Rogue Chocolate Stout

Ebony in color with a rich creamy head. The mellow flavor of oats, chocolate malts, and real chocolate are balanced perfectly with the right amount of hops for a bittersweet finish. Chocolate Stout is brewed with 10 ingredients: Northwest Harrington and Klages, Crystal 135-165 and Beeston Chocolate Malts, Cascade Hops, Rolled Oats and Roasted Barley, Natural Chocolate Flavor, Free Range Coastal Waters and PacMan Yeast.

3.9 Black with a huge beige head. Roasted malts, plenty of chocolate, milk chocolate, cocoa, biscuits, hints of caramel, lively carbonation, very good.
3.7 Bomber, 2018 vintage. Roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate, vanilla and sweet lactose. Pours deep brown with a large mocha brown head that has excellent retention and lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt and chocolate flavors as well as having a medium body and smooth mouthfeel. Finishes smooth with vanilla and lactose sugar flavors as well as more chocolate at the very end. Pretty good stout.
3.3 Bomber pours nearly black with a three finger puffy brown head and excellent lacing. Aroma is coffee, dirt, chocolate. Initial impression, overly bitter, not enough sweet, and slightly sour which I don't care for here. The chocolate taste is of the very dark variety.
3.3 On tap @Ølbaren - Aarhus Streetfood. Pours pitch black, with chocolate brown head. Scent: Cake, chocolate, cocoa beans, roasted. Taste: Roasted malts, chocolate. Texture: Little thin to oily texture, medium co2.
4.2 Monday, October 22, 2018 10:00 PM 1 Pint 6 Fl Oz/650 ml poured to wine glass Sight: Black, medium brown foam that slowly disappears, some lacing Smell: licorice, fragrant Taste: medium bitterness, sweet Feel: Medium-full body, sticky, medium carbonation, good finish follow through, strong bitter aftertaste Overall: very good beer, good to repeat BA RB
4.0 Good Stout, but a little too sweet for my taste. Nice toasty and chocolate notes and dark chocolate color. Nice sipping beer on a cold night in front of the fire.
3.6 Bomber poured into a pint glass. It pours a deep dark brown with a nice dark brown head. The aroma is just like smelling a chocolate bar. Lovely milk chocolate with mocha and cocoa powder and some vanilla. The chocolate is just so overwhelmingly nice. The mouthfeel is light oily and the carbonation level is below average. The chocolate is almost just as present in the taste as it was in the aroma. It’s really rounded and surprisingly well balanced. Would recommend to friends!
3.9 From bottle in porter glass. Pours dark brown with thick tan head, big choc aroma mixed with hints of cookie dough. Creamy, not too sweet, with zesty bitterness in the finish to balance nicely. One year in the bottle on the other side of the Pacific and still very nice
4.1 Bottle. Pours black with thick brown head. Strong cocao aroma which flavours through, still remains with toasty stout flavour I love it
3.7 Bottle, self-imported from USA. Tall brown head, lacy and long lasting, the oats should help with that. Dark roast flavor but with little astringency, just a wallop of hop bitterness, which is honestly a bit much for me. A bit more residual sugar would balance it out. Really noticeable chocolate in the nose & aftertaste. It's like a mocha espresso made with little sugar with dark cacao powder. Highly recommended if that hits your taste!
3.9 66cl bottle. chocolate truly in every aspect of the beer, color, aroma and taste! exemplary in style
4.4 Great beer, had it on tap in Portland Oregon and in the bottle and fell in love with it, great tasting chocolate stout, very addictive, I wish it was readily available in Australia
3.8 It tastes like chocolate. Not chocolate stout, but chocolate. Is it weird when something is advertised as chocolate, actually tastes like chocolate it, and you’re somehow shocked. We I was. And it’s delicious.
3.9 Pours deep dark brown, almost black, with three fingers thick tan head. The intense sweet chocolaty aroma is deceiving, taste is way more bitter than expected. Strong roasted coffee notes both in aroma and taste too. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel. It's like drinking a 99% pure dark chocolate bar. Very nice.
3.9 ABV - 5.8 IBU - 69. .Appearance: Lingering brown head sits atop a murky blackish brown. Visible carbonation streaming up. .Aroma: Dominating scent of milk chocolate. Subtle notes of plum, fig, raisin, dark roasted malts. .Taste: Bitter dark chocolate combined with sweet milk chocolate. Bitter presence throughout the sip and on the finish. .Mouthfeel: Lighter side of medium. Smooth and easy to drink. .Overall: B+ .Bottom Line: One of the better chocolate stouts you can drink.
3.6 Keg at MK VHX, 05/01/18. Had this for the first time in the US at Rogue SF taproom circa 2008/9. Catch up rake. Black with a well presented tan head. Nose is chocolate, spice, mellow roast malts, light hop presence, biscuit. Taste comprises chocolate, toffee, molasses, oatmeal choc cookie, light roast, mellow fruit esters. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close. Solid well balanced stout.
4.4 Fantastic nose, chocolat with hints of nuts? A little hint of yeast-dry chocolat powder. Fantastic en bouche, the palate is rich and creamy. Great chocolat stout. Winner.
3.9 Bottle from World Market in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is dark chocolate, chocolate brownies or muffins, some vanilla notes. Taste is bitter dark chocolate, reminded me of baking chocolate and chocolate baked goods. Pretty solid and classic chocolate stout.
4.3 From Jun 2008 The pour is a near pitch black but when I hold up my glass to the light, I can that it's a very dark brown. Big 2 finger+ head of tannish foam and there's plenty of sticky lacing. Awesome head retention and plenty of lacing. The smell has oodles of both dark and milk chocolate tickling my nose buds. Wow. Does this ever smell inviting! And...the taste tells it all. Big baker's chocolate taste that literally has me grinning after every sip. Oh, there's definitely some sweeter milk chocolate flavour there as well but it's nicely countered by a very pleasant dryness coming from notes of coffee and a bit of toffee and that just kicks up the drinkability factor for me. Wow is this stuff good or what? Good thick mouthfeel gives it a really creamy texture and the carbonation is low and perfect for this beer. I've had this available locally a few years ago but I never got around to reviewing it so, I had to grab a bottle yesterday when I was in Ft Collins. I'm *so* glad I did!
4.4 Black colour, big brown head that keeps there all the time, compact creamy lace. Aroma of chocolate, licorice, coffee, plums, hops noticeable too. Mecium body, creamy rich texture, great carbonation. Taste of chocolate, with some bitterness from the hops, plums, licorice, coffee. Rich and very well balanced. Extraordinary.
4.3 Vom Fass auf Guam. Schwarzes Bier, cremiger Guiness Schaum. Es duftet wunderbar nach Schokolade. Frisch und roh. Es schmeckt sattnach Schokolade und dann erst Röstmalz. Ich wäre beigeister, hätte ich nicht gelesen, dass natürliches Schokoaroma drin ist. Gibt etwas abzug.
4.5 Schwarzes Bier toller cremiger schaum, Yes!!
4.0 65ml bottle from wishbeer bangkok. pours black with big brown head. coffee and cocoa aroma with sweet cocoa taste and vanilla notes. nice bitter coffee after taste.
4.6 Delicious smooth chocolate stout. Dark tan creamy head and a velvety mouth-feel. The bittter note adds the perfect punch to this great brew.
3.6 650 ml. bottle. Pours a thick, well retained beige head. with layered lacing, over a clear brownish black (SRM 34) body......nose is cocoa, chocolate, earthy tones with oats. all from the malts, mild pine from the hops, balance to the malts.......taste is mild hints of sweetness with honey tones to start, chocolate, cocoa tones, oats, becoming dry with moderate lingering finishing hop bitterness......mouth feel, medium light but creamy body, no alcohol, moderate carbonation. This is more of an American Stout with the light sweetness, and moderately heavier bitterness than an English Sweet Stout. Some lactose might improve. BJCP 7/3/10/4/7
3.7 650ml bottle. Pours black. Chocolate, toast, plum, dry spice, a decent bitterness. Too much carbonation. Tasty.
3.9 Dark brown pour. Aroma is strong chocolate. The taste is bittersweet chocolate. Touch of lactose. Quite bitter for a chocolate stout but it really works
3.8 Pinta en el Lupulo Feroz (Oviedo) Sabor y olor dominado por el cacao, cuerpo ligero y poca graduación, buena pero termina cansando tanto cacao
