4.2 Pours a dark brown/black with a big 2 finger head which takes a while to dissipate. The head is tan with lacing. Aroma is chocolate and malt. The taste is slightly sweet chocolate with a bitter bite at the finish which is really quite mild, though it may be from the hops @ 72 IBU's. This is one of the best Stouts I've tasted in a while, so I need to change my rating.
4.1 bomber @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Aroma of earthy malt and chocolate. Opaque brown-black, brown head that drops to a cover, sheets of lace. Taste is thick, chewy toasted malt with dark chocolate and a little black coffee. Thick, literally like syrup, but quite nice for a cool evening around the fire. Highly recommended.
5.0 Whole.....eeeeee......crap!!. This is by far and i am not even exaggerating the absolute best thing on earth. I can't wait until January anymore because that's when rouge pulls this bad boy out !!!! (Yes triple exclamation points) this comes out blackish brown and even tan like in certain lights. Absolutely a sight to see. It's thick, rich, well balanced sort of (more chocolate than beer). If it was possible I would bathe in it! It smells like sex! Deep ,rich chocolate notes with a slight alcohol sting at the end. Same goes for the taste. I mean identical. I haven't had a beer dark or light that tasted like it smelled compared to this find (and it was found at the source in Newport). I would do bad things to get this year round. Things that would haunt me for the rest of my life.
4.4 If you like Rogue Chocolate Stout, you will LOVE this! It really doesn't get much better. It has the creamy texture like a Young's double chocolate stout. Has a bold flavor, but not too sweet or bitter. Really good balance. Sampled at World of Beers, but I may just look for a bottle of this somewhere to bring home and try again.
3.5 Pours an inky black with a compact tan head; dark chocolate with tobacco on the nose; lengthy, complex finish.
3.9 Strong stout, chocolate completes the roasted malts. Neighbor likes to share his birthday beer.
3.8 2 finger tan head. Pitch black beer. Aroma is dark chocolate, toffee, dark roast coffee, yeast, dark rye bread with hints of rum barrel, raisins and figs. Taste is dark rye bread, toffee, dark roast coffee, cigarette ash, slight booze, dark fruits and hazelnuts. Earthy notes aswell. Mouthfeel is very nicely viscous without being pure syrup. Great stickiness. Medium bitterness. Medium carbonation. A bit watered out at the back. Overall: Expected some typ of pastrybomb but this is well on the roasted side of the spectrum, a bit too much for my optimal preference. Very solid even if I would've preferred a bit more sweetness in the taste. Very good!
3.8 Pours very dark brown with brown head. Chocolate, vanilla, and coffee in the aroma. Rich, sweet taste with LOTS of chocolate, along with vanilla and nutty bread. Some roast coffee bitterness and alcohol balance things out in the finish. Really good.
4.0 Draft at the Rogue Ales Bayfront Public House, Newport, OR. Enjoyed on May 6 2018. Black color with a small tan head. Chocolate, nougat and chocolate liqueur in the aroma. The flavor is chocolate, sweetness, nougat, sugar, alcohol and some bitterness.
Snygg.
4.9 On tap at Short Stop Xtreme Growler Station pours a deep ebon brew with a slowly retreating dark tanned head. The aroma knocks my socks off with it's intense chocolate - Willy Wonka look out! I also get roast malt and toffee. The taste devine with again chocolate chocolate, satisfying malts, some burnt sugar, a bit of bitter hops. Most satifying rich mouthfeel with medium carbonation most appreciated. The flavor loves you long time. Slightly bitter choclate echoing through the night accompanied by the gentle call of toffee toffee toffee.
4.0 Complexe notes of cocoa and some coffee in the nose. Lingering soft and pours in black with small head. Taste is bitter and with coffee notes and some dark fruits. Palate is long and bitter.
4.0 @ Basunen 18-4-21: Mycket stor doft och smak av choklad. Lite söt, men inte för mycket. Tydlig eftersmak av torr kakao
3.7 Bottle from Beermoth, Manchester. Aged from 2015. Pours a deep brown colour with a medium mocha head. Aroma of milk chocolate, coffee, some cookie dough, slight roasted malts, vanilla and subtle liquorice. Taste of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, some cookie dough, vanilla, slight liquorice and subtle alcohol. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. A dryish, roasted malt bitterness in the finish with a little heat on the aftertaste. Not as sweet as expected, more dark chocolate with a heated spice of liquorice late on. Lacks a bit of complexity like more modern imperial stouts.
3.8 @ fillepolo 20180325. Bottle from Systembolaget. Roasted malty with lots of milk chocolate and vanilla, sweet, medium body with an oily texture. The finish is bitter and roasted with lots of chocolate.
3.8 Beer tasting @ fillepolo 25/3-18. Bottle from Systembolaget. Roasted malty with a lot of milk chocolate. Body is medium, the finish is dry and bitter with roasted malt and milk chocolate.
3.9 Bottle from systembolaget. Pours a dark colour beer with a smal head. Roasted malt with milk chocolate and notes of vanilla. Dry finish.
3.6 Das normale Chocolate Stout fand ich unfassbar gut, dem hier fehlt etwas die Drinkability, da der Alkohol sich schon sehr in den Vordergrund drückt. Ansonsten natürlich schokoladig, aber auch sehr bitter.
4.1 Sample from bottle at Extreme Beer Fest, Ralston. Pour was black with a tan head. Aroma was chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt. Taste was bittersweet, lots of chocolate, coffee.
4.2 Served up on tap at Busters with blonderedhead. Large snifter 12oz pour. Pitch black in color with quickly dissipating tan head. Aroma is mild chocolate which is deceptive given the taste that's about to come. Incredibly chocolatey and rich. Heavy malt presence. Like liquid dark chocolate frosting or sugary chocolate Malt-o-Meal. This is so good. The definitive dessert beer. Honestly this is chocolate and nothing else which isn't a criticism. Truth in advertising at play.
4.3 22oz bottle at home, pours black with a tan head, the aroma is sweet chocolate. It taste of sweet chocolate to start then bitter chocolate to finish, some carmel flavors. This is a great beer.
3.1 Bottled: Pours black with a large head. Big chocolate aroma with notes of vanilla and some licorice. Thin mouth feel. Taste is chocolate, roasted malt and harsh alcohol. Smells fantastic but the rest leaves a lot to be desired.
3.9 Bomber bottle from Systembolaget. Black with tanned head. Roasted malt, coffee and loads of chocolate. Sweet with low bitterness and low carbonation.
3.8 Black color, large dark brown head. (Big chunk of chocolate in the bottom of the bottle.) Sweet aromas of chocolate, vanilla, caramel, honey, maple syrup, lacotse and cocoa powder. Sweet and rosted taste with cacao, honey, nuts, chocolate and slight hops.
4.0 Pours a deep brown. Intensely sweet chocolate cake batter and frosting aroma. Quite sweet and moderately thick. Cocoa finish. Notes: on tap at the Portland tap room, Spring '17...my 4000th RB rating!
4.0 Pours oily. rich black with thick, dark, dense head. Aroma is heavy cocoa, caramel and roast. Taste is dark chocolate and toffee, warming to roast and a mild hop backbone. Finish is rich chocolate. An immensely enjoyable chocolate stout.
3.9 thick black pour with frothy brown head. Very sweet vanilla aroma with some roasty chocolate character. Chocolate comes out more in the taste with moderate bitterness. Still moderately sweet with vanilla. Texture is extremely creamy.
