4.2 Big beer with massive dark chocolate and roasted coffee flavors hiding the hops in the bitter backbone. Alcohol fairly undetectable in all the malt
3.5 Bottle, 355ml. Pours a black, heavy tar with a strong hint of chocolate. More hoppy than your average porter, not so much coffee. Great beer.
3.5 Well, this smells like a porter... With chocolate. Coffee has yet to be discovered. Sweet, fresh roasted malts dominate the aroma. Yes, it even almost smells like fresh wort. It’s nearly black color, and cream colored head, offers a smooth, yet almost awkward bitter roasted malt flavor that seems to be a little due to roasted malts, but still very good. Light-bodied, clean, and groovy.
4.3 Pours very dark. Has a smooth velvety taste. Lots of malt and chocolate. If you’re a stout or porter drinker this is a must try, won’t be let down.
3.8 Draught at Rogue Distillery & Public House, Portland. Notes from March 2010. Heavy chocolate, stout-like aroma. Very smooth mouthfeel. Summit hops give an interesting dimension. Very long chocolately tail. Much much better than the regular Mocha Porter.
3.7 Dark brown/black color; Medium to heavy creamy body; Aroma of toasted malt, mocha, dark chocolate, & coffee; Flavor of roasted malt, caramel, rich dark chocolate, coffee, and some hops; Finish is slightly bitter; Nicely balanced; Overall, not too complex - but pretty tasty.
3.6 Bottle. Deep brown/black opaque liquid with medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate, pine, fresh coffee, licorice, candy and dark fruit. Taste is dry and light to medium bitter with some dry chocolate, licorice and coffee. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Nice.
3.6 From notes - Deep brown color with full finger off white head. Nose is bitter coffee with roasted malts and dark chocolate. Flavor follows similar with bitter coffee and espresso in front followed by lightly sweetened chocolate. Roasted espresso and chocolate also. Medium body with mild lacing on the glass.
3.8 Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown/black with a creamy tan head that left good lacing. Aroma was roasty with chocolate, coffee and caramel. Flavor was silky smooth and well balanced with roasted coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts and had a hint of molasses. A stellar porter
3.7 Dark brown with a big, creamy head. Not much on the nose - cocoa/mocha/roasted nuts. Taste is like a good hot chocolate with a relatively faint hoppy bitterness to finish. Really smooth for a double. Would like a little more coffee and less cocoa, but still very good.
3.8 Love the regular mocha porter. Loads of chocolate here on the nose. No coffee or roastiness to speak of as I would expect from a porter. Really more of an imperial stout. Despite being off of te porter style, this beer is damn good. Great for dessert, just like their double stout.
4.0 Draft at Jerry’s. Black with big, foamy, caramel head / Nose of coffee, caramel, cream / Medium to full body, acidic and dry, chewy, nice balance but could use a little more malts (although it would pretty much be a stout at that point), and fine bitter finish / Flavors of dark roast coffee, bittersweet chocolate, caramel, grass, lemon / Could use a left more heft to the body, but quite nice.
3.5 Bottle. Pours dark opaque brown with a medium tan quickly diminishing head with some lacing. Aroma is coffee, dark chocolate and dark roasted malts. Flavor is medium sweet and alcoholic with a light coffee bitterness that carries through to the finish. Lightly astringent.
3.9 pours black, slight white head, chocolate, smooth finish of espresso and malt
3.8 A-- Props on the blue bottle. Much better than the ceramic stuff. Poured black, no light penetrating at all. Moderate pour got a meringue like, dark brown sugar colored two finger head. Almost immediate lacing with the head settling down. Excellent head retention with the beer. S-- Roasted malts, coffee, and a bit of chocolate. Nose is a little bit on the weak side though. T-- Roasted malts and coffee. Not much chocolate in the taste at all. More like a strong coffee taste with some rolled malts and oats. M-- Baking chocolate comes out in the mouth. Has that mocha feel to it. Coffee gets more bitter as it sits in the mouth. Has a bit of a lemony finish as well. Reminds me more of a Oatmeal Stout or a bad starbucks mocha with too much coffee. D-- Superb drinkability. Well hidden 8.2% ABV. Gets a bit on the bitter side with the coffee but this is very drinkable and can finish off a 750 pretty easily. Negatives are the very bitter coffee taste and the lack of a nose but otherwise a good beer.
3.5 Pours a dark black with tan head. Lots of chocolate flavor and smell. Good beer but not for the price. @15.99
3.0 You can taste the chocolate in this beer. It’s good, but ultimately too dark for our tastes. It’s just not for us.
3.9 750ml bottle poured into a snifter. Pours black with about 2 fingers of dark tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasty malt. Taste is light bitter. Starts with coffee and chocolate and ends with some nice piney hops. Medium bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Soft carbonation and a very long finish. Overall, very good. I would gladly drink this again.
4.1 Blue 750 mL bottle from Grape & Gourmet. Dark brown cola-like pour with a frothy khaki head. Aroma of rich dark chocolate, light hops, and faint alcohol on the nose. The taste is chocolate and smoke which are both much more prevalent than in regular Mocha Porter. Some detectable heat from the alcohol but this is a very drinkable 8.2% dark beer. Very well done.
3.8 strong flavor with lots of chocolate and hops. the beer is very intense with a great emphasis on the richness of the malt. the hops are strong but complements the beer without over dominating. the beer is smooth and silky with a strong alcohol punch. great all the way.
3.2 The aroma is very chocolaty and coffee like with molasses and burnt malt. The appearance is dark brown with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma with a bit of bitterness. The palate is smooth. Overall a nice beer.
3.8 on draft on 2/22/12 from notes. Hoppy and malty, a bit of smokiness and a touch of sweet. Hops linger for a bit. Very nice
3.9 22-MAR-2012, bottle @Papsø. Dark brown, almost clear with low head. Coffee, chocolate, roasted. Ends hoppy bitter Quite easy drinking. I like this. A bit simple but tasty.
4.2 750ml bottle shared with friends. Dark coffee brown/black in color with a thick tan head. Taste was delicious - strong roasted coffee bean and chocolate flavors with a really nice balance. Good carbonation with good dry finish that wasn’t bitter and left me wanting more. If it was easy to find these in San Diego I would drink frequently!
3.6 Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of chocolate and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, alcohol, whiskey, and chocolate, leading to a dry finish.
3.9 Bottle at Papsø. Clear red-brown colorued with a medium sized beige head. Sweet and roasted aroma of dark chocolate with notes of coffee. Sweet and roasted flavour of liquorice, dark chocolate and coffee with notes of hops. Roasted and hoppy finish.
3.6 75 cL bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is smooth roasted malty and light caramelish. Roasted, caramelish and light toasted malty. Bitter, chocolate and smooth dark malty finish.

3.6 Bottled. Dark dark brown coloured with red gleam. Dense light brown head. Aroma of caramel, cocoa, light roast, spice. Flavour of sweetness, vanilla, sweetness, light sterin, roast. Medium to full bodied. Ends on a sweet and light roasted bitterness.
