3.4 I am surpised this is rated so low. Very complex taste of fruit and malt. The taste begins sweet and is followed by a citrus flavor and lightly bitter finish. Although slightly bitter, ther is not much hop character. Not the usual beer.
3.4 Aroma of spice and orange with a bit of candi. Golden amber color with tiny bubbles. The beige head is a monster. Near medium body. Creamy fizzy carbonation. It’s sweet, with orange and ginger. Malt and hop tend to get lost in the complex blend. As the sweet oozes away a veg/ginger/bitter taste remains. Seems more bitter than 18 IBU, so perhaps the ginger is fooling me. The orange comes out best in the end, although it is arguably detectable at the beginning. It’s really a bit different, but it’s pretty innovatively good.
1.2 Cloudy blond color. The aroma smells of malt but also of orange soda (Fanta?). Some malt body, but the spicy mix (and orange peels) makes of it a horrible brew.
3.0 I’ve had good saisons, bad saisons and middle of the road saisons. This fits squarely in the "middle of the road" catergory. The nose is malty sweet, with a bit of light fruits and spices coming off it. Nothing overwhelming or outstanding. Appearance is a hazy orange color with lots of floaties..uh...floating about. The flavor was just not interesting enough to get higher marks. Heavy yeast (perhaps that’s the floaties) really trumps the fruits that are there but can’t escape the yeast’s shadow. Slightly spicy with a tannic finish. Far from being a drainpour, but far from being a repeat purchase too.
2.5 Not a bad beer. I never really thought of this as a saison...but not bad. I wouldn’t seek it out again I don’t think.
2.9 Huge head from the pour but with minimal carbonation once it settles. Stinky cheese aroma. Some sour cherries, candied fruits. You know the gelatinous ones that are in fruitcake. Cloudy golden orange. Palate is chalky, bitter and dry. Fizzy in the mouth with light fruit and some bitter hops. Some lingering spices but your typical nutmeg and cinnamon holiday spices. A strange but ok brew.
2.5 Kind of a muddled cider scent and flavour, despite all the exotic ingredients. I see what they were going for here, and the flavours are rather straightforward, but the end result is painfully fizzy. It was so gaseous that it made it tough to drink. Looks good and all, but it’s not what I’m looking for in a beer.
3.0 Orangy peach and opaque. Very fizzy with a thick dissipating head. Based on the description there seems to be a lot in this beer. The smell however, is so varried that I can’t really identify anything from it except that it smells very fruity and sweet with a hint of orange. Tastes a little bit like a cider with a bitter aftertaste. It’s not great, but it’s certainly drinkable.
3.1 from the bottle. poured a cloudy dirty honey color with no head. aroma, a sour sweetness combo, orange, wheat, hops, some ginger. flavor, sour orange, hops, ginger, fruity, the alcohol comes out when it warms up and orange becomes more prominent
2.8 Dark yellow in color with haze and solids. A little too sweet. The spice is about just right. An OK beer.
2.8 Bottled. A unclear orange beer with gunk floating around under a fast disappearing beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with light notes of fruit. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of spices, fruit, yeast, and coriander, leading to a dry and slightly alcoholic finish.
2.2 Pours a clear gold...this is a saison? Nose is like dirty sweet tarts. Dirty sweet tarts. The candy. Yeah. Flavor is like drinking those dirty sweet tarts. Feel is standard for a regular old beer...but I don’t feel like this is anywhere near what a saison should be. Drinkable? Hell no. This is my least favorite saison out of all I have tried. I love Rogue and all they do, but really man. This is just bad. Bad with all capital letters. Bad as in a waste of money. Bad as in a waste of water. Ack. Really. What were they thinking. This is a saison? I can’t believe I am considering flushing a Rogue brew. Atrocious.
2.6 Pours a hazy peach color with a thin white head. The aroma has something unpleasant, feels a bit lactic, there’s also fruits and yeast. The flavor has sour fruits and yeast, quite ordinary. The body is light with a creamy and soft carbonation. I wonder why Rogue bothers to do belgian ales...
2.1 Bottle 22 ounce did not like cloudy and not my type of style, too fruity and spicy for me.CHEERS!
3.0 Poured from a bomber. Pours a hazy amber color with a fluffy cream color head. Aroma of yeast and spices with some fruit. Slight malt flavor gives way to spicy, citrus flavors. Dry, somewhat sour finish. Taste is crisp and is easy to drink.
3.2 Date: October 15, 2005 Mode: Draft Source: Summits - Sandy Springs Appearance: muddy orange, scant head Aroma: rich malt aroma with a bit of spicyness, hint of fruit Body: big body Flavor: good complex malt flavor, mostly dry, nice fruit character well mixed with an array of spices, touch of farmhouse funk that blends into a bit of bitterness in the finish, upon warming the fruit takes on a nice orange character Date: December 03, 2009 Mode: bottle Source: Ale Atlanta funk is picking up nicely and becoming a bigger component and adding complexity, Aroma: 7/10; Appearance: 6/10; Flavor: 6/10; Palate: 6/10; Overall: 13/20 Rating: 3.2/5.0 Drinkability: 7/10 Score: **+ /4
3.2 Bomber. Pours a clear dark amber color with a sizeable off white head that leaves decent lacing. The aroma is fruits and spices. Flavor is fruity (mainly oranges/citrus) with some sweet malts (toffee) and spices. Lighter bodied with a dry finish.
3.8 I really loved some of the really yeasty bottles that I got of this. Way too spiced to be a traditional saison, but nice enough.
3.0 Bottle. Pours golden copper. Odd nose: kinda smells like pizza: oregano, tomato and yeast. There’s a hint of bubblegum sweetness in the back. Medium bodied with a fairly creamy/oily texture. Sour and dry on the palate with that bubblegum still lurking but not really coming into play. Finishes fairly long and dry.
2.6 (Draft @ Alamo Drafthouse): Pours an amber brown color, no head. Little aroma. Very sweet salty taste, like candy. Sweet acidic taste, very unlike a malty beer. A sour taste, but not fruity. Warming up a bit. More malty & beer like as it warms up. Still a little acidic. Didn’t realize this was a saison until now..
3.1 xxx had this ne at the state college beer eexpo of 2006, a good beer but i was also drunk at the time
3.7 thick frothy head, golden orange color. with high carbonation yeasty aroma. can taste citrus spices , aftertaste is dry.
3.2 2006 Bottle. Spicy aroma and flavor and a sourness are appealing in this saison, but everything does not necessarily go together as well as in others in this style. Average to large white head that diminishes. Clear body that is yellow-orange. Aroma is heavy with malts, particularly toffee. Orange spiciness is apparent. The yeast is quite noticable — sweat and horse blanket. The flavor is lightly acidic, moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body with a slick texture and less than adequate carbonation.
3.9 Pours orange with a big head from a bottle at Woodmans. Plenty of spicey hoppy flavor. Citrus and yeast with good bitterness, an enjoyable brew.
2.7 Amber-gold, with a ridiculous, billowy, white head. Very spicy aroma, with coriander and cloves over orange being the best description. Fairly heavy, with a smooth, almost flat mouth feel. Not much of the citrus carries into the flavor. The aroma and appearance are the highlights of this beer.
3.6 Orange-copper in colour, large off-white head, good retention and lacing. The aroma is slightly sour, good amount of citrus, yeasty, some spice. Some mustiness comes through in the flavour along with some chalk, some sour and funk, lemon citrus, light spice. Medium bitter mouthfeel, medium body, high carbonation. Finishes quite long, musty with some lingering citrus. Not bad, a different step from Rogue, gone are the usual hops. 650ml bottle from Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York. Purchased on June 30, 2006 for $5.49, opened on December 31, 2006. No best before date.
2.4 2006 bottle: Pours a golden straw with a receding dish soap head. The aroma is very upfront and gassy - notes orange peel with a heavy plasticy layer beneath that I also encounter with Orval. The honey malt in the body has difficulty finding balance with the onslaught of earthy yeast esthers and underattenuated sugars. A bit out of whack for me.
2.9 The beer pours hazy dark orange with off white head. It definitly has a fruit aroma Malty fruity flavor with other spices i cant place.
3.7 This ale pours a hazy orange with a huge, white, meringue-like head. The aroma is of bread, fruit and spice. It is medium bodied and extremely smooth. The flavor is spicy, fruity, wooden, grassy, a touch sour and a touch bitter. Unique.
3.0 Hazy golden liquid with firm head of tan bubbles. Nose of full of hops and banana esters. Taste is hops and fruit. Nice body. Finish is a little tart.
