3.3Ok aged beer; there's a lot better. Has a better nose than the bourbon barrel aged version, but the taste isn't as good(just a hint of the aging).
3.6Dark brown pour. Big khaki head. Some lacing. Sour aroma and taste. Might be infected. But it tastes pretty good.
3.5August 2010. 22 oz. bottle. Dark amber color with an offwhite head. Malty aromas with nuts, spice, caramel. A little sweet from the barrel ageing, but a nice brew.
3.03/09/2011: Rogue John John Ale (Ale with Natural
Hazelnut Flavor Aged in Hazelnut Spice Rum Barrels)... Aroma:
Caramel, dulce de leche; pumpkin pie spiciness. Appearance: Deep
ruby-amber color with a foamy ivory-colored head; murky complexion.
Flavor: Caramel, dust, stale coffee, pie spices (cinnamon, allspice,
clove), toasted nuts, thin hazelnut liqueur. Palate: Medium; bubbly;
seems a little thin. Overall: The hazelnut definitely comes through,
but this beer is disappointing (as expected) and mediocre at
best...

2.5Not very good, disappointed. Pours a beautiful red with a light tan head. Smells very nice, of spiced run and bananas. Taste however is very weird, very tart, far too carbonated with lots of rum, and a very sour aftertaste. Almost no hazelnut. Give rogue credit for trying different things, but this one isn't a winner, unlike voodoo doughnut.
3.3A nice brown ale, this pours a murky, middle brown with reddish tones, and a small, fizzy, tan head. Nose is nutty and malty. Flavor echoes the nose, with a decidedly vinous quality that makes the beer very enjoyable and slightly warming despite the low ABV. Highly drinkable.
3.222oz bomber. This one was a gusher. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a thick tan head. Aroma of hazelnut, some spices, with a nice strong rum presence. Taste was kinda blah. Very little hazelnut flavor and slight rum notes. Wasn't bad, but tasted more like an average brown ale to me. Aroma was definitely better then the taste.
3.3My favorite of the John John series. Smells of nutty coffee and light spices. Flavor is mild dried dark fruits and oak over top of the Dead Guy profile. Texture to this one is a little too prickly, though.
Does not age well, however. Had a year-old bottle that got lost in the cellar - nose was burning styrofoam, flavor had lost it’s brightness and begun to show serious oxidation signs.
4.2Has a nice hazelnut taste and aroma that bolsters a well-balanced, medium-bodied brown ale. One of the better brown ales out there. Fairly straight-forward for a Rogue.
4.8Excelente, recomendo. Forte com sabor marcante.
2.822 oz. bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a small beige head. The aroma is sweet malts, noticeable spices, light barrel notes and some hazelnut. The flavor has caramel malts, mild spices, nutmeg, cinnamon, very light hazelnut and barrel notes. Thin, soft body.
3.6Cloudy brown. Solid, if a little boring. Clean taste, very subtle hazelnut. Slightly sweet.
3.3This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized tan colored bubbles that were and left behind a softly carbonated hazy brown colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was malty and musty. The mouth feel was tingly at the start with a mellow finish. The nice flavor contained notes of hazelnut floral hops and malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again.
3.3Bottle. Slightly hazy red brown pour with an off white head. Aroma of hazelnuts, fruitier than the founders nut brown, raisins, light vanilla. Taste is woody, nutty, some vanilla. Palate is med bodied with low-med carbonation, pretty easy drinking.
2.822oz bottle. Medium brown color, thin khaki ring. Started off with lots of fizz; after the first sip, it was flat. Aroma of hazelnuts. Not much malt or hops. Some wood scent. Tastes of oak, watered down malts, nutty character, hazelnut extract essence. Very thin, watered down character. Not much to this one, honestly. A bit disappointed. Finishes with a bit of spice character. Touches of peppery cinnamon tingle, some nutmeg earthiness, a hint of rye tingle in there too. In theory, this is a great beer, it just is very thin. It’s nothing in comparison to the overall body of the Juniper John John.

2.922oz bottle. Thin khaki head. Clear red slightly brown color. Good rows and dots of lace. More dry finish. A lot less sweet hazelnut flavor than in Rogue’s standard hazelnut brown. More of a light woody spiced rum aroma, but it’s watered down - this brew has a light body, and sort of a light flavor. Light cola, some fruity hops, balsamic vinegar. Carbonation is a little blunt. Light bitter taste, some spice, mostly tart. Caramel malts. Pretty lackluster and disappointing. Past its prime, maybe. Sediment at the bottom of the bottle.
2.8Bottle, bought @ Vinens Verden, Odense.
Nice clear deep red with a big, frothy, beige head. Fizzes away rather fast. Aroma has fat caramel, nuts, oak, tannins. Highish carbonation, light mouthfeel and a bit watery. Flavour has tartish oak, light spicy, light rye, some mild nuttiness. Mild dryish tartness to the end. Not that succesful.
4.2Bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours an amber - brown colour with a huge, rocky beige head. Aroma of sweet hazelnuts, caramel, Brett, oak, balsamic vinegar, chocolate and a hint of rum. Similar flavours with a lovely dry, funky Brett character cutting through. Some lemony sourness and oak linger nicely with the hazelnuts. Heavily carbonated with a foamy mouth-feel. I’m loving this, it’s quite possibly my favourite Rogue to date! Just a little bitter right at the end. Really interesting.
2.7Draft at Moriartys. Cloudy brown pour. Fizzy off-white head. Smells sweet and nutty. Taste is clean and juicy. Body is bubbly but thin. Light red fruit flavors. Lingonberries. Queen Anne cherries. Definitely taste the hazelnut/filbert flavor, though it does not seem to play well with the fruit juiciness. Some light cinnamon nutmeg spice is present but it also does not work (pepper would have been better.) Some nice elements but I can not recommend. Would have been a better brew without the gimmick.
3.3650ml bomber pours a pale amber color with a finger of white head that dissipates quickly leaving little lacing on the glass. Aroma is light caramel with some nuttiness and citrus finishing with some rum. Taste is light caramel malty sweetness with a nutty presence and a mild citrusy hop bitterness. Light to medium bodied with some mild carbonation. A pretty decent offering, but lacks a little in substance.
3.3An excellently flavored beer with lots of fruit & spice notes and a sour after taste that you forget in time for the next gulp.
3.4[4432-20120526] 1pt6floz bottle. Mild fruity nut malt aroma has a strange rummy base. Hazy, red amber body with a medium-lasting creamy light yellow body. Light nutty apple-orange peel flavour has a lingering light boozy base. Medium body. Interesting to sample. (7/3+/7/3/14) 3.4

1.8Bottle from Appellation Wines. Very hazy medium brown colour with a big yellow brown head. Sour grassy woody nutty malt & rum aroma & flavour. Sour aftertaste. This is not my sort of beer. My first big disappointment from Rogue.
1.9bottle at home ... deep red brown ... thin off white head ... soft sour vinegar nose ... tart sourness ... little woody ... really this is well in date but terrible... just terrible
tap at 9a ... brown ... thin white head ... sift sour nose ... soft creamy malts ... light balsamic vinegar ... little woody ... still not me but 2.6
3.5Poured brown with reddish hints, and a small tan head. The aroma was licorice, nuts and caramel. The taste was a nice mix of nuts, caramel, and raisins with a light rum like sweetness. The palate/mouth feel was medium bodied. Overall a nice evenly balanced brown ale, not the best I’ve ever had, but not nearly the worst. I’d recommend this ale, it went down smooth.
3.52012-05-26. Lightly hazy dark amber body with a small beige head. 3+ Sweetish malty core, with light spicey overtones, sort of nutmeg like spice, possibly cinnamon? 7+ Pleasant spicy aroma, akin to nutmeg or allspice? Mild sweet malt character. 7+ Smooth average plus bodied palate. Enjoyable, bit simple. I got a lot more of the spice out of it than the hazelnut. Bottled shared by Blankboy
3.4My bottle [660ml] shared with jerc & mabel. Pours a cloudy copper-red with a small diminishing frothy off-white head. Aroma of rum, hazelnuts, caramel malt, some raisins and some spice. Slightly watery nutty flavour along with caramel malt, rum, a bit of alcohol and spices. Average bodied. Interesting and somewhat unique, I didn’t love it but I quite liked it.

3.6Pours clear and brown with slight head. Good aroma and the rum is detectable right away. Taste is good and smooth but with plenty of spice including the hazelnut .
3.3Clear brown with a huge beige head. Aroma is sweet, mallty, caramel, nutty, spicy and notes of rum. Flavor is quite sweet, light acidic and moderate bitter. Dry and light acidic finish. 010512
3.4Bottle. Amber with medium beige head. Aroma is malt, tart, brett, caramel and a little rum. Flavour is malt, sour, tart, brett, caramel, fruit, little acid and a little rum.
