2.4 Draft at PreFunk. Very disappointing when compared to a real German weizen. Slight floral essence to what is a weak kristallweizen. I expected better from Rogue...
3.0 Hazy. Not much to this n. Pretty hohum for rogue. Really light. On tap at track town.
3.1 Tap at Rogue Bar SF. Pours a clear yellow. Nose has citrus, spice, cloves and yeast. Taste is more floral hops and citrus yest. Spices in the backend - more cloves and Belgium funk in the taste. Not too bad. Not my style of fav beers.
3.2 Bottle at home. Pours hazy gold with a medium, frothy white head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is wheat and Pils malt, biscuit notes, earthy hops, and spice notes. Flavor is crisp malt, light hops and bitterness, light fruity esters and spices with a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation.
2.9 This was a nice session hefe, but I probably wouldn’t purchase it regularly. The aroma was probably the best quality, with lots of citrus, spice, and floral accents. Head retention was poor and short-lived, but poured an attractive hazy gold and overall it had the light, spiced body you’d expect from a wheat beer. The body was light and refreshing, tasting like what you’d expect from a wheat beer, with a nice citrus finish.
3.2 Sample at Daily Growler. Hazy golden color with a medium thin white head that recedes quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of wheat and spice. Light-bodied with flavors of wheat, coriander and malt. The finish is wheaty with a citrus and spice aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.
2.9 Sample at the Daily Growler on 8/1/13. Clear gold pour with a thick white head. Aroma of malt, creamy wheat, and some yeasty esters. Creamy wheat flavor with a sweet, thin finish.
3.3 I found this at Mo’s Chowder House in Newport Oregon under the name "Rogue Mo’s Ale". It’s an American Pale Wheat Ale. Good to great.
3.3 I liked this. On tap at the bocktown. Smooth and easy, right from the start. Almost has a slight berry perfumy aroma, just a hint. Same with taste, initially some wisp of a berry thing in there. Very unique and like able. Enjoyable as the session continues. Goes down surprizinlgly easy. Refined, well behaved. Very mild fruit smell keeps arising from the glass. Yes, ok by me. Look is not as cloudy as yer typpy hefe. Impressed.
3.0 This is a nice sessionable Hefe. I don’t think it is overkill on the spices, it seems to be just right.
4.2 Now I really liked this beer, but I also like anything that’s a hef. I would definately buy it again. The hook for this beer is that it’s brewed with rose petals. I don’t really appreciate that myself though. That is to say, if roses taste like they smell then I didn’t taste it. But I’ve never eaten a rose so maybe they taste like something else. Regardless it tasted like apricots and oranges.
3.3 Bomber from Sam’s, Durham. Pretty inviting pour, vigorous carbonation and a deep gold. Nose is soft and dry, bracing rather than the glove-slap of American spice adjuncts. That and the taste are pretty muted and understated, but that’s actually a positive in the case of most beers in this style. Just a touch of spice to meld well with the dry hops. Not bad.
3.2 On tap in Newport. Golden with tiny white head. Scent is bananas and whaet. Taste is big on wheat, low on fruit.
3.7 22 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours hazy golden straw color with a 1 finger fairly dense bright white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, coriander, ginger, clove, wheat, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity; fairly weak on strength as expected. Taste of pear, lemon, apple, coriander, ginger, clove, wheat, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. No bitterness; with lingering notes of pear, lemon, apple, coriander, ginger, clove, wheat, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice balance of malt, spice, and fruity ester flavors; with a good amount of flavor that is not watery at all; and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy, smooth, and fairly crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a good witbier style. Good balance of malt, spice, and fruity ester flavors; and very smooth to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.
3.2 Not a bad hef was good smooth and refreshing pretty pour tastes like teen spirit do it bebe
3.1 Pours cloudy golden with a small white head. Sweet nose and flavor. Banana, wheat and coriander. Medium bodied.
2.7 pours a really carbonated huge head pale yellow beer. Aroma is really not good, medicinal, funky, nyquil-esque. taste is actually better than aroma, sweet, ginger really comes through, perhaps to much. palate is prickly which matches the flavors but not the style. overall this is not great and even without regard for stylistic intents and categories this is a confusing mash-up of bracing flavors.
3.1 Sample on tap at Bières et saveurs (Chambly). POurs clear golden with tiny white head. Aroma: bananas, malt, hops, wheat. Taste: wheat and malts, not very fruity. Medium bodied and carbonation. Refreshing.
2.2 Bomber. Poured a hazy golden color with a nice white top. Nice floral aroma. Overkill on the coriander and ginger! What an awful taste leads to an awful palate. Not a fan of this brew
3.0 Bottle. Quite a bit of ginger in the nose of this one. The taste has hints of ginger, but the coriander really comes through. Very light and easy, but slight sweetness in there.
2.5 Had this at the 2012 Twin Cities Beer Festival. Had a weird peach funk, rather bland taste.
3.4 650ml bottle pours a light golden orange color with a 2 finger white head that settles to reveal some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is light orange with some spices (coriander and ginger) and grass with some citrus. Taste is mild orange with some light malty sweetness and grassy with citrus hop bitterness. Light to medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Quite a refreshing ale that is worthy of a tasting.
3.3 On tap at Pour House with Keith, cloudy gold pour with no head and only a spec of lacing. Aromas are filled with lemons, orange, strong wheat, bready grains, some fresh grass. Taste is a very sessionable and lightly flavored wheat beer with some nice hops and malts to balance it out. Very crisp and refreshing wheat weizen.
3.6 Pours a slightly hazy orange copper with a small white bubbly head. Aroma is light, some wheat, flowery notes. Flavor is fair, mostly wheat, again some flowery notes, a little citrus.
2.7 Bottle from Bruisin’ Ales. Pours golden with an inch of white head that rapidly disappears. Not a lot going on on the nose. A lot of ginger on the tongue and especially in the finish. Odd interpretation of a wit unless you really dig ginger.
3.4 3rd October 2009 Bottle from a Las Vegas liquor store. Clear gold beer. Softish dry palate. Light ginger and coriander on some crisp malt. Not much else going on but very drinkable.
3.3 660ml Bottle from Appellation Wines. Clear golden amber colour, good foamy head. Sour wheat / grain aroma. Dry cereal wheat grain flavour, bitter aftertaste. Unusual but not outstanding. Not sure why it is called Hefeweizen as it is nothing like a hefe.
2.5 On tap. Pours a slightly hazy pale gold with no head. Has no discernable aroma. Taste is sweet pale malt, some breadiness and an unpleasant sweat socks-like sourness. Not very well balanced. Meh.
3.3 ...had it in Cedar Key recently from the bottle. It was called Mom’s Hefeweizen from the 650 ml bottle. Poured a hazy light orange, good head retention. Lively carbonation, nice puffy off-white head that lasted. Nose had orange, and coriander, maybe some of the ginger. Flavors were similar, finished prickly with some decent flavor. More like a wit than a hefe, but it was still enjoyable.
2.8 Just had to try this one on Mother’s Day. Wheaty aroma has a strong yeasty overtone - it smells very much like a packet of brewer’s yeast. (No surprise there, eh?) Pours a clear solar yellow with a typical white head. Flavor is wheaty with just a whisper of lemon and a whisper of grass. Smooth texture has average body and just a little fizz. I’ve had better, but this is palatable. Happy Mother’s Day!
