3.0 Made from a buckwheat malt. Nice pour on draft at Japanese restaurant on 45th. Good color. Lightly nutty, but robust mouthfeel
2.7 It was a very smooth beer a good light ale, but I don't know if I would pay that much money again for this beer. It was just an average attempt at an ale from rogue!
4.3 I was just forced to pound a whole one of these by Helvia while loosing dice. This beer is super good. I’m getting another.
3.2 22oz bottle 11/30/15 (Binny’s Downers Grove)-38° in Shaker-Pours a hazy orangish amber with a small white head. Aroma of grains, citrus, and hops. Taste of the same with a nutty finish. This light bodied brew is not bad a bit different.
3.3 Bottle at Appellation Wines. Slightly cloudy orange. Nose is spices, orange, wet grass. Tastes orange, light grass, light citrus. A bit thin but ok.
3.9 1/2 of a 22 oz bottle served in a pint glass (from notes). A: Amber; slightly hazy; fine white head has excellent retention. S: Has a very appealing aroma mainly from light toasted malt but also, I believe, from the soba (buckwheat). T: follows aroma, with just hints of the earthiness and spiciness found in bolder Rogue brews. I thought the flavor profile was excellent for a beer designed to be consumed with Asian food. M: Enough carbonation (medium) to be a little crisp and refreshing, especially with the surprisingly dry finish. Medium body. O: Not enough complexity to be great, but a truly fine tasting beer that, as one might expect, was an excellent pairing with sushi. Highly drinkable. Seemed to be neither harmed nor helped by warming.
3.1 Bottle. As Rogue Buckwheat Ale. Curious Hop, Otley. Murky orange. With a little help it keeps a thick, bubbly, off white head. Spicy lager type malts on the nose. Bit of wheat. Dig deep and there’s a blueberryish hop note. Taste is light dry. Hint of sweet. Decent body. Finishes with a little grassy bitterness. Not a lot going on, but I sort of enjoyed it for that. Probably glad I didn’t go for the bomber, though.
3.1 355ml bottle, take-out from Birmingham Beer Bash 2015. One of the lucky few that weren’t cracked open by Simon F on the train back home. Pours hazy amber with thin white head. Grainy nondescript aroma. Taste is fluffy wheat, grain, malt, soft texture.. pleasant but hard to distinguish much else.
2.9 Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; hazy light copper pour with a thin bubbly white head, aroma has grain and light vomit, taste comprises of grain, lemon curd, quite a creamy mouthfeel, some nuttiness, strange one this.
3.2 Bottle from cerveteca lisboa, portugal. Dark gold color. Thin white head. Taste is light sweetness, medium bitterness. Aroma is spicy, malty, grainy.
2.8 Hazy golden with thin white head. Malty aroma, taste is all about soba. Malty, low bitterness. Drinkable. Not much more.
2.6 Cannery Row Beer Club tasted this for the first beer of the night. For what u get $7 is pricey and it was on sale.
2.9 Tap. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a layer of off white head. Aroma and taste of malts and some grass. Not much else going on.
2.7 12 fl oz Flasche. Klar und golden. Kleine Schaumkrone. Leichtes Weizenaroma. Milder Nachgeschmack.
3.2 Thought this was going to be some weird flavored beer, but it was pretty basic. Pours golden, small head and lacing. Aroma of wheat, grass, and a little lemon. Taste of corn and wheat malts, some bitter notes to it.
3.1 Draft. Pours a slightly cloudy golden color. Aroma and taste are nutty and lightly sweet.
3.0 Bottle at Craig’s. Pours golden yellow, nose is floral, lemon, taste is similar, a little grass.
3.3 draft at 2014 fall Keyaki in the Ezo beer sampler. Nice aromas of grain, cereal, and buckwheat honey. Sweet on the palate. Tastes of cinnamon and grain like a liquid granola bar. Light tasting with a watery mouthfeel. Nice smooth finish.
3.0 650 ml bottle. Clear deep golden body with a small, lacing off-white head. Light malty aroma and really not so much more. Flavor is sweetish light malty, some fruitiness and low bitterness. Medium body and short in aftertaste. Pretty plain, nothing impressive going on.
3.3 on tap at Morimoto in Philadelphia; gold color; sweet malt aroma; sweet malt flavor with spice notes
3.2 Poured as a taster at regular Friday tasting. Somewhat smoky aroma. This is okay, but I don’t really see this as something special to go out of the way to get.
4.2 Light in color, great aroma, taste is crisp and fruity, good pour with thin but thick head. One of my new go to brews. STO LAT
3.3 Foggy orange pour from 650ml bottle at Edison. Thin layer of white head. Vanilla and sweeter aroma. Earthy grain and lager flavor with a little fruitiness. Not bad
3.0 hazy Orange pour with a small off white head. Sour tangy aroma .tangy taste similar to sorghum .
3.3 "an interesting spiced beer...licorice like flavors and aroma? golden with a decent body and a lingering aftertaste. nice, but not worth revisiting unless one is offered."
3.2 Draught at Keyaki 2014. Nutty cereals, touch of honey and spice. A bit mild and simple overall.
3.5 A wonderful beer with little aftertaste and not much carryover. Good if you are looking for a beer to have in a series of other beverages.
3.2 Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pilsener glass because I thought this was a pilsener at the time I had this. The appearance was a nice hazy to slight orange to brown color with a slight one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There as some light lacing trickling around the glass. The smell had a slight sweet malty to sweet corn to citrus slightly kind of background. Light honey is there but mainly subdued. The taste was mainly sweet with a nice conglomeration of allocated sweet malts. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Would I have it again? Uh. ...maybe Overall, decent specialty grain, hmmm, I’d have it again.
