2.9 "Jazz Guy" bottle. Pours clear gold with a small white head. Aroma is malt, grain and grapefruit. Flavor is malt, herb and citrus hop and a little caramel sweetness.
2.6 Bottled. Ambery golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is sweet malts, some nectar, grass, floral hops and mild herbal notes as well. Flavour is quite much the same along with some mild toasted and earthy notes.
3.3 Thanks to my brother for sharing this bottle. The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is wheat, ginger, lemon, perfume and caramel. The flavor is wheat, orange peel, coriander, perfume and flowery hops, lemons and a low amount of bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Overall, this beer tastes like a hopped up Belgian White. Decent and somewhat drinkable, but nothing special.
3.5 Enjoyed from a 22oz bomber in a pub glass. The beer pours a medium golden color with a moderate white head. The nose shows notes of Munich malt and a general tendency toward continental malt notes. An earthy hop character comes through toward the end of the aroma. The palate is nicely malty in the approach and mid-palate, before showing a little more balance in the end-palate to the finish. The finish itself carries a pleasing residual sweetness, along with some earthy hop notes. Overall, a pleasing and nicely complex session beer. If only all golden blonde ales were this way...
2.9 650ml bottle "Jazz Guy Ale" Clear pale amber body, persistent off-white head. Aroma of medium-low intensity. I get some dried fruit and metallic spice (bit oxidised?). Caramel malts and earthy hops detectable, but disguised. Full bodied, good smooth, slick texture with medium carbonation. Toffee malts and mildly citrusy, earthy spice hops. Bit like a British bitter actually. Bitterness is relatively restrained, finish a bit lacklustre. Bit disappointing, but I think this may have been an old bottle. Reminds me a bit of James Squire amber ale otherwise, which makes it even wierder being apparently a Golden Ale!? Not bad either way, would like to have a fresh bottle next time.
3.2 Hazy amber/gold color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of malt, floral hops, & citrus; Flavor of sweet malt, yeast, caramel, hops, citrus, and light fruit; Finish is crisp and slightly bitter; Overall, solid blonde ale.
3.5 Gold color, white head. Citrus, grass, herbal hops and lots of caramel malt. Flavor is citrus hops and malty. Not bad.
4.2 Has that typical "Rogue" hop malt taste to it. Roasted malts. Very tasty. Rated 3/23/03
2.8 Drank from a 22oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Nice malty aroma. Has a light body, nice roasted dry malt taste and finish. goes down with just a little bit of a bite.
3.0 Bottle, labeled as Sharktooth Ale. A lot of haze on the second pour from the bottle, golden straw body with short head. Mild biscuity malt aroma with some coriander as well. In the taste, coriander is a little more noticeable, a little bit grainy with not too much else, good carbonation.
3.2 The aroma is malty and wheaty with yeast, herbs, and grassy hops (basically like herb bread). The appearance is cloudy gold with a medium foamy head. The taste is like the aroma with a sharp bitter finish. The palate is thin but OK. Overall a nice session beer also good with many foods.
3.2 Golden pour with a moderate white head. A little hoppy, with bread, and some malt aromas. Decently crisp, a little thin, and seems like a pilsner. Not bad, but not very impressive.
3.0 Bomber of Jazz Guy Ale from Barley and Hops in Glenwood, Illinois - This poured a copper/amber body with a decent beige head and supplied plenty of lacing. The aroma is toasty grain and caramel with a bit of lemon. Same with the flavor but with the additon of an earthy, citrusy bitterness. Dry finish. Drinkable, but uninspired.
2.6 In short: A boring low intensity golden ale with sweet dried fruits flavour. Extra-bland. How: Bottle 22oz (called Shark Tooth). Consumed fresh a few months back. The look: Partly cloudy golden body topped by a short-lived white head In long: Nose of dried candied fruits, mainly oranges. Taste is more dried candied fruits, biscuits, a little caramel. Bottle talks about a hoppy bite but I’d say this is a hoppy caress with only a faint floral hops touch with no bitterness to speak of. Finish leaves a residual sugar sweetness flavour. This is easy to drink because it is very light on taste but what it tastes is very very boring. This is beyond bland. And what is beyond bland exactly? I don’t know. Clouds?
2.3 Aroma of sour milk with maybe a hint of something chocolate. Golden pour with white fizzy head. No lacing. Flavor is sort of odd; Some hop, some candy, some malt. Not a whole lot to be excited about.
3.0 From my back log. Golden pour with thin off white head. A mild fruit and malt aroma with a malter bitter finish. Ehh.
3.3 Golden, with rising bubbles and no head. Typical golden aroma of citrus, peppery hops and some malt. Palate is a bit overcarbonated, but smooth. Bitter floral/grassy with a dry finish. Decent brew.
2.9 From a bottle poured a golden color with a fair amount of head. Grassy malty flavor with a lingering finish.
3.6 Bottle. Decent beer, nothing too special. Worth trying but attribute is drinkablility, hate saying that feel like a macro commercial.
3.4 Pours a hazy amber with a large white head. Smells of citrus and toasted malt. Tastes citrussy and sweet with some toastiness on the finish.
3.4 22oz bottle as Jazz Guy Ale shared by a friend. I’m calling shenanigans on the suggestion that this beer is the same is this Oregon Golden Ale, ’cuz this mutha is a deep amber color. Aroma is grainy malt with some earthy hops. Grainy and bready malt flavor with some earthy hops in the finish. Definitely an amber ale.
3.5 22 oz. bottle. Golden amber colour with a mostly diminishing creamy and fizzy white head. Caramel and light citrus aroma. Caramel malts up front with an earthy, lightly herbal bitter finish. Medium bodied, soft yet juicy mouthfeel.
2.6 Pours a deep golden color with a huge fluffy head. Aroma of malt and hops. Taste is bitter. Very hoppy. Not much going on here.
3.1 Apparently a lot of beers are also known as Oregon golden ale. A golden body with a white head. Caramel malts, very grainy and bitter with a herbal floral hoppiness. Not so good.
3.0 650ml bottle. A clear golden ale with an average-sized white head. Malty aromas dominate with bread and fruity hops (orange mainly). Flavour is quite bitter for the style with a strong malt base and a potent resinous dry herbal hop bitterness to the finish that lingers in the mouth. The massive hop presence rather unbalances this beer IMHO. It needs a little more sweetness up front. A bumptious beer!
3.0 Source: On tap at Medici’s in Normal. Glass: Poured into a standard pint glass. Appearance: Clear gold color with a one finger white head. Aroma: A bit of malt and citrus hops. Flavor: Solid malt base with a bitter, earthy finish. Palate: Medium body with a clean mouthfeel and solid carbonation. Overall: Pretty decent for a blonde, but not something I would drink often.
3.2 My bottle is called Jazz Buy Ale. Brought over by a friend. I told him I liked it, and thanked him. It is the thought that counts.
3.0 Location: Picked up a 22 oz. bottle at Gilly’s, drank it Jan ’09 Overall Impression: Bought this one dressed in its the Shark Tooth Ale Label alias...Really solid for a Blonde, which I’m just not huge fan of in general, but this one was had some decent fruity and floral flavors, and a nice head.
4.1 Now "Jazz Guy Ale" : after warming on the counter for about 10 minutes, I still un-capped a gusher; big bottle into a snifter. Rich amber color with a sticky tan foam, a bit murky as well. Citrusy hops come straight to the nose. Hops seem to dominate the flavor as well, potent and dry, but an unexpected maltiness opens up and carries this along. Perhaps a bit over carbonated, I would like a higher gravity version. Still, Rogue continues to hit. Comes in under $6 at my local.
3.3 22 oz bottle. Pours a light bright golden color slight haze. Nice white head. Aroma is hoppy, citrus. Taste is a little metallic, some nice hoppy notes a tthe ened. but pretty thin overall in the mouth.
