Rogue Ten Thousand Brew Ale (10,000)

Rogue Ten Thousand Brew Ale (10,000)

18 Years, 10 Thousand Brews, 1 Brewer

Big, earthy malt flavor balanced by lingering hoppiness, with hints of citrus. 7 Ingredients: Vienna, French Special Aroma and Maris Otter pale ale malts; Yakima Summit and German Saphir hops; the top-fermenting Pacman yeast; and as always free range coastal waters.

3.4 2006 bottle shared by Ryan and Felicia. Pours an amber color. Aroma is really hoppy, mostly floral and grass. Some malt is noticeable on the aroma. And after 3 years I was shocked at how hoppy this beer was. Very citrusy and grassy with a little malt balance. But the hops were the star in this one.
3.4 Had this on draft at capones some time ago. An amber body with an off white head. Huge alcohol driven hoppy character grass y sweet caramel, some citrus, and pine.
3.9 Slammed from the bottle. Classy. Lots of grass and citrus in the aroma. Lemon, pine and grass flavor with some caramel in the finish. Could be rougher. Price was pretty rough.
3.9 Figured two years aught to do it for this one. Don’t know how it’s considered a double IPA at only 60 IBUs but OK anyway. Cap popped off and when I turned to get my glass I found a volcano spewing from the bottle. After I spent some time cleaning up the ensueing mess I had a beer to pour. Pours cloudy golden brown with a reasonable head. Mostly sweet malt in the aroma reminding me of an aged barleywine. Flavor is more reminiscent of a barleywine as well, some hops left but stale. Malt profile rules at this point more of an american strong than a DIPA. Sweetneess if the aroma. I like it although at this point the stale hops seem to interfere with some of the malt character. Some say this is past it’s prime where I say it’s in a weird middle ground where the hops have faded but a beautiful malt profile is starting to show through. Another year maybe two might bring it out more. Past it’s prime if you were actually expecting hops, but even 6 months, heck you could argue 6 days would be past it’s prime for that. Once again this is not a DIPA, I agree with Funknmilla, at this point the remaining hops take away from this beer. From previous reviews I was expecting a disaster. It’s far from one but maybe because I only paid 11 bucks for my bottle. Very drinkable.
3.3 Ceramic Bottle from December 2006..pours a cloudy dark amber with orange highlights..beige head with excellent lacing...mild citrus aroma + malts...has undertones of earth-----sharp hop flavors almost ruin the malts that are there for their protection and mine---as my wounded taste buds continue on, I am only to be struck again by the pursuing hops---the malts try to catch up, but by the time they arrive, its too late---I’m already consumed by bitter finish and the gang of hops---as I regain consciousness, I’m aware that all the blows delivered were not as bad as I expected and it all became mellow in the end---10% tasted like a mere 7%---till we meet again Rogue.........
3.1 Crushed with Jakebra. Nothing incredible here. Very citrusy nose with some hop presence. Flavor is aight, but the finish goes from bitter, to citrus, to bitter, to citrus, to dishsoap. Still, it was fun to drink either way.
3.4 Bottle shared at Trappeze. Pours nice amber orange with thin head. Aroma of sweet malt and citrus hops, a little weak. Taste is a little more malt than hop. Light bitterness in the finish. Mouth is sticky and full.
3.6 I agree with others that this beer is beyond its peak. If you’re still holding one, drink it now! The beer poured a reasonably clear orange with a respectable head that dissipated to a nice thin coating across the beer. Aroma was faint (beyond its peak, remember?) but hinted at malt and a bit of citrusy hops. The taste was better with a commanding presence of tangerine citrus and a bit of pine resin, balanced amazingly well by a rich malt backbone of sweet caramel and toasty/biscuit flavor. The bitterness is still there and offsets the malt sweetness very well. All in all, this is a great double IPA. I like others better (Ruination comes to mind), but this is still quite nice. Overpriced, but nice.
3.3 Pricey ceramic 750 I got at Chevy Chase Wine and Liquor over a year ago. Pours orange with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is sweet with a lot of citrus. Taste is rich and sweet with a lot of caramel. Overall a tasty brew, didn’t realize it was a dipa, and doesn’t taste like one now either.
3.5 Pours a cloudy orange with some red highlights. Off white head. Nice sweet malt balances well against the citrus hops, mainly grapefruit. I probably shouldn’t have waited so long to try this, so the hops would have been better. Way too expensive for the quality of beer though.
4.2 Pours dark golden with a thick white head that is very sticky. Strong hop aroma, it almost stings the nostrils. Very strong hop flavor up front that lingers in the aftertaste. More of a bitter hop flavor than aroma hop. Good balance in the aftertaste that ends up tatsing like a very clean refreshing beer while still packing a punch at 10%. Does not age well, this beer was best when first brewed.
3.5 PIB 2008. Pours glowing orange, hazy, with a soft white head. Very big grapefruit hop nose. Hops were fresh and aromatic, slightly sharp on the bitterness, piney note in the finish. Palate was heavy and a bit thick, but didn’t seem to lack floral notes because of it.
3.9 750 ml bottle. this is more like a IIPA for me... an aged IIPA. and it is definitely over-priced. Not worth the $20+ that this one cost.... anyways.... was still very enjoyable. pours a deep red with a thick white head. citrus in the aroma... as well as some aged malts. some salt up front and grapefruit coated hops on the back end. some alcohol on the finish. medium body... somewhat one dimensional overall. good, but not great.
4.2 I liked the bold texture mixed with heavy grapefruit. Poured hazy orange. Huge hop and malt combo done just right. Strong white head deteriorating slowly. Great piney aroma right from the first sip to the last sip. Surprisingly smooth at 10%
3.6 Bottle(4/25/08)-A hazy cloudy orange with a nice tight off white head. Has an aroma of citrus, fruit, and hops. The flavor is of bitterness with some dryness and malty. This medium bodied brew is very nice tasting. 900th Rating
3.5 V - light orange, cloudy, thin head A - sweet sugar and caramel T - mild, unassuming P - carbonated
3.7 Thanks for sharing Chris. Pours a coppery orange, nice white head, thinning over time. Big hops, a bit soapy, floral sweet light malt. Viscous creamy, low carbonation. Not quite syrupy. Big hops, sweet malt. Caramelly with alcohol and big grapefruit. Lingering grapefruit astringency. Not bad. I really can’t see why this isn’t a double IPA.
2.3 Booze, booze, booze. Smells of booze and burnt hops. Tastes like... booze. And not much else. Heavy alcohol heat drowns out most of the other flavors. Some piney hop flavors and over-roasted malts, but nothing impressive. Crap beer in a nice bottle with an elevated price tag.
3.9 Big thanks to Gillard for sitting on this beer and waiting for an excuse to open when I happen to also be in attendance. I’ve been pining for this beer for some time now. YESSSSSS!!!! Now I get some. (un-havered rating to follow) Pours hazy orange to copper with off white head. The aroma is sweet chewy sticky maltiness mixed with pine to grassy hop bitterness. Plenty of drool inducing aroma. I still get alcohol pulling up into the nose near the end of the whiff. The taste begins smooth with lightly roasted malt semi sweetness. It gets bolder quickly as the pine to grassy hop bitterness and mild pine late addition hop flavor break through to the surface. The sweeter flavor notes recede into the finish as the hop bitterness only grows stronger. Some caramel notes poke up from time to time too. Just a delicious brew.
3.7 Cloudy tea-coloured amber. Big aromas of cereal, caramel, and loads of peachy fruity hops. Heavy dense mouthfeel of equal quantites thick malt and fruity bitter hops. A big beer.
3.6 Bottle… DLD’08… Cloudy, orange-tinted ale with a mid-sized, wispy, off-white head. The aroma bestows notes of fuzzy and citrus fruit along with evergreen and PNW hops. Great retention. Full-bodied with prickly carbonation. Mild sweetness, medium to heavy grapefruit rind bitterness and a very light dusting of salt. Bitter, earthy finish. Thanks so much to Headbanger for sharing his bottle!
3.6 Thanks to colin for a go at this beer. Cloudy orange with a thin white head. Heavy malt and hops aroma. Flavor had an initial hop kick that dropped back while the caramel and grain came forward. Finished slightly bitter with no hint of the abv.
3.6 Bottle. Poured a hazy medium orange color with a white head. A bit of lace was left behind. Aroma was of thick malty caramel and light citrusy hops. Delicately sweet on the tongue with mild hop bitterness of about 3 out of 10. The flavor was malt dominated with caramel and honey-touched cereal grain elements. There was also a sprucy hop note, but it wasn’t as pronounced as I had anticipated. At 10%, neither was the alcohol flavor. Pretty good, non-offensive beer with some personalty.
3.5 Body is a hazy amber. Aroma of piney hops. Flavor full of chewy malts and a sweet, dry bitterness.
3.5 Bottle, courtesy Gillard. Pours a golden straw color, with a fizzy white head, and decent lacing. Sweet hoppiness in the aroma, with caramel and banana. Sticky syrupness, vanilla wafers, fig and caramel. Overall, pretty hoppy. Bitter finish, easy to drink, and balanced well. Lacks that Rogue flavor, which is probably good.
3.7 Ceramic Bottle 650 ml (2006) Appearance: Nice pour, light haze on amber with presentable medium stiff top. Nose : Light aromatic hops , soft fruity feel with green freshness at back. Warmth of , fruity alcoholic backing. 7+ Flavor/Palate : Full bodied ale . Rich heavy malt with thick hop blanket. Lighter fruity accents dosed in clean refined alcohol. Big alpha hop finish. Very nice.
3.7 Nose is treated to orange, pine, pears and white plums, hazy tequila sunrise in colour, wears a small tan head. Taste is a burst of orange, pine needles, lots of malt to pull this together nicely. Full bodied, very balanced for all it’s hop and alcohol, pleasantly bitter. Great!
3.2 pours hazy copper color. flavor and aroma are very raisiny. alcohol is present but not overpowering.
3.7 Fairly complex flavours happening in here but the classic Rogue hops and dark chocolate dominate. Pours very thick, a hazy orange with small yellow head. Nicely bitter with a sweet backbone, very noticeable alcohol. This alone probably caused the recent hop shortage.
3.8 hazy orange with a small white head. Sweet and fruity tones. Malt, fruit and lots of hops ! Full body with long, dry aftertaste.
