3.4 Deep copper amber color with a sudsy off white head. Sweet malt bomb with an earth edge. Notes: on tap at he brewery, Portland visit May 17
4.4 Avermelhada de média turbidez, espuma de média formação e persistência. Bastante malte e uva no aroma, leve lupulado. Paladar de médio dulçor e leve/médio amargor bem balanceado. Corpo licoroso e média carbonatação. Final tende a amargor açucarado, lúpulo sempre presente, uva em segundo plano. Muito boa. Melhor barley que já bebi.
3.8 Bottle share @ Hampton Inn pre-DLD 2016. Pour is very hazy dark orange with a medium beige head. Notes of veggies, leather, alcohol, caramel, bread, and resin.
4.1 0,355 l bottle Vintage 2003 ! caramel, alcohol, raisin, cereal, amber-orange color, hazy, minimal head, heavy cloying sweetness, lightly bitter, full body, oily feel, thick feel, soft carbonation, long finish,
2.9 750 mL bottle shared by ebone1988. 2013 vintage. The pour is a dirty light brown with some reddish hues shining through. There is a bubbly off white head that falls down to a thick collar leaving some pretty hefty lace. The aroma is interesting. There is a lot of bitterness. It’s got a metallic malt and a strong bitter fruit to it. The sweetness is definitely not there. I’m not looking forward to this. The flavor is awful. Resoundingly bitter with a hint of dark fruit. This fucking sucks. There is a bitter malt and it’s backed up by a metallic and fake bitter hop and just sits on the tongue. This is a hugely bitter piece of shit. The mouth feel is thin and light with a weird carbonation and a lingeringly bitter aftertaste. There is nothing good that comes from it, just bitterness. Fuck this.
2.9 Bottle shared with koleminer20, for the book. 2013 vintage. Aroma is hops, caramel malt, candy, citrus, bitter malt, standard barleywine procedure. Appearance is dark red brown, light brown head, hazy. Taste is bitter as fuck, malt, caramel, earthy hops, harsh. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, boozy earthy hops and caramel aftertaste. Overall, not good.
3.4 Bottle at Taps Beer Bar, Changkat. Poured a reddish dark amber with a round bubbly white head. The aroma is rich sweet malt, sugary alcohol bitter. The flavour is moderate sweet with a rich burning alcoholic bitter sweet malt palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Very alcoholic and a little one dimensional.
3.6 This barley wine is a heavy hitter for sure. It is not a session beer at all and needs to be savored as opposed to slammed. I liked it once but not sure I would buy it again.
4.2 Hazy amber with a medium cream head. Aroma is pine, ripe fruits, sweet malts. Very malty in palate too, with caramel, spices, sweet bread. Full bodied, not boozy in taste, very complex with a hoppy finish. Not an easily forgettable ale!
4.1 Tasting at Beer Station, Xiamen. Pours hazy amber with a thin white head. Aroma of pine and hops. Bitter finish. Seems like a DIPA to me, nice all the same.
4.1 Мощь во всем, в теле, во вкусе. Нетипичный барлик, даже сладости мало, но дико жестко и режуще.
4.4 Vintage bottle shared by Bart at Struise shop in Bruges, cheers! Off-white, thin, loose and bubbly head (the bottle had been opened before apparently), quickly vanishing, cloudy brown robe with ochre edges. Complex aroma of soy sauce (the typical effect of maderisation in very old dark beers), dried mushroom, old sherry, fig, honey-glazed spare ribs, bitter honey, caramel. Rich fruity onset, sweetish with lots of meaty umami, bit dried banana and raisin, creamy caramelly malt body with hints of milk chocolate and toasted nuts, earthy finish with peppery hop accent and long, drying, warming, brandy-like alcohol. Glad I finally tasted this and it has stood the test of time nicely, but now I’m only left curious for a younger sample...
3.6 Light orange brown and translucent. Thin white head. Slightly sweet aroma. Taste is sweet and fruity, smooth overall.
3.5 Bottle. Brown pour with tan head. Sweet candied malt, older malt aromas, boozy. Smokey, roasted, drier Flavors.
3.3 Clear amber color with a white head that diminishes fast. The aroma is nutty and full of dark fruits. More of a sweet beer. Big body and low carbonation.
3.6 Reddish orange pour with aroma of caramel, fruit, and some hops. Fruit sweetness with caramel, molasses, and a touch of hops. 2012 vintage. Nice beer.
3.4 This is a strong sucker. It’s a very sweet malt barley wine with the alcohol presenting a warming burn. The sweetness hangs around and the warmth stays longer. Not quite sure it was worth $25, but it does come in a really nice ceramic, flip top bottle. Adding to this because I had another glass of it when I got home. I noticed pale yellowing debris/pieces suspended in the beer, as well as sitting on the bottom of the glass. It’s totally unnoticeable in regards to mouth feel, but just wanted to note it.
3.4 January 9, 2016 - bottle from somewhere a long time ago. Muddy brown pour with limited head. Aroma was sweet malt, dark fruit and some hops. Taste was very bitter and lots of booze. 2010 vintage.
3.9 Well stored, aged small bottle as Old Crustancean Barleywine from La Cerveteca, Barcelona. Slightly unclear reddish orange body with a small, fast disappearing tan head. Strong aroma of sweetish malt, caramel, dry fruit like raisins and prunes with some alcohol. Flavor is sweet malty with the same fruits as found in aroma, warming alcohol and pretty bitter for the style. Full bodied and long lasting sweet and warming aftertaste. Great barley wine, feels more balanced than expected after the first sips.
3.9 Draught at Imazato. Murky, light-ruby, little head. Sweet malt aroma with some hops. Smooth, malty beer with a decent hop finish.
4.4 Flip top bottle from 2013 enjoyed October 12, 2015 in a Mad Elf tulip/snifter. Look - Very slow to develop head. It chug a lugged out of the bottle with an aggressive pour to yield a finger of light tan, fine bubbled head. Body is very murky clay. Lacing is nice. Head ends up being a ring. Smell - Toffee. Plum. Raisin. Whiskey. Tobacco. Brown sugar. Hop. Taste - Bitterness from the sediment overpowers it. Tobacco. Whiskey. Toffee. Floral. Fruit. Feel - Perfect. No part of this is hard to drink. It sits well in the stomach. It is well carbonated but not overpowering. Creamy and not too heavy or watery. Overall - 2013. Great. Filter it a bit to lessen the bitterness. Feel is top notch.
4.2 Pours clear deep mahogany with a small beige fizz. Smells strongly of caramel and toffee with a subtle hint of booze. Taste is sweet, boozy, caramel, hints of pine. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Rogue XS Old Crustacean Barleywine finishes with a woody, dry, oakiness.

2.6 Bottle shared against my will by Troy. Slight papery oxidation. Some toffee and strong sugary smell. Taste disappoints just as much. Very paper and thin.
3.7 Rated based on notes taken 10 Sep 2012 -- Growler from my buddy Leitch poured into a pint glass and shared while enjoying his last night in Laughlin. Gonna miss this bastard. Glad he was able to share one last awesome brew with me.
4.1 Intensiv malziger, scharf schokoladig bitterer Antrunk, gänzlich ohne Karbonisierung. Die Intensität bleibt hoch, Espresso, deutlich Vanille. Dabei sehr weich, der Alkohol ist höchstens ahnbar. Viskos, erneut Bitterschokolade. Pflaume, mild herb. Langer Nachgeschmack. 8/13/9/13/11/13
4.1 XS 2013 Batch: Pours a hazy dark orange with a foamy beige head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, toffee, citrus fruit, and citrus zest. Taste is much the same with a sweet flavor and an herbal hop flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer that is tasty and easy to drink, a bit pricey, i wish they didnt have to use these ceramic bottles.
4.1 Pours a murky caramel brown with a light brown/tan head, impressive. Potent aromas: caramel, bread, cereal, resin, floral, dough, leather, alcohol, cooked vegetables, and some vanilla. Amazing. Flavor is off balance but delicious. Super sweet, sour, then bitter and salt. Better than I first thought. Finish is mostly bitter and alcohol. Wonderful stuff.
4.0 Tap from rogue store. Great pour and medium body. Smooth and a bit sweet with a bit of head. Great heaviness for a barley wine and alcohol shines thru. Tasty. Would do again.
3.8 Reasonably good color with some bits in it. Smells very good, balanced.. malty and perhaps some vanilla. Taste is great, not overly sweet.
