Rooie Dop Utrecht Strong Ale

Rooie Dop Utrecht Strong Ale

The city and province of Utrecht has got a great history (and future) of brewing beer. It deserves a beer that shows our appreciation and what more could we do than make this Utrecht Strong Ale. Big hops dominate the aroma and big malts support them in taste. Put your hands up for Utrecht, we love that city!

3.5 Hazy brown color with an off-white head with good retention and medium lacing. Aroma has notes of dry fruits, some molasses and candy sugar. Flavor is mild sweet, notes of molasses, high alcohol with a final mild bittery.
3.7 Aroma is nutty malts and caramel. The flavor is caramel/light toffee, grapefruit, mild citrus/fruit and a malty/warming alcohol finish.
3.8 9.4% ABV. Belgian Strong Ale. Poured out of the bottle a brown amber color. About 18ºSRM. Nose has nice clean slightly fruity flavors. Clean sweet aroma. Very pleasing. Mouthfeel is clean and light with a beautifull lighly hopped finish. I don’t usually comment on the finish, but this so cleanly blaanced that it is really just the most outstaning trait of this beer. Very well done. Clean sweet well roastd malts with nice biscuit, graham cracker, sweet barley flavors. Balanced first by some nice carbonation, then a straight clean bitter hop finish that is neither prolonged or hysop-like. As you let it bloom long after you’ve had your last sip and your palate is well free of the alcoholic embrace, you start to notice cherry blossoms, a faint oleander and some lilac and bubble gum - like aromas whether that’s the alcohol talking, I commit it to your tasting and discernment. Goes on favorites list. Easy drinking and pleasant in all the best ways but beware the sneaky kick in the nuts.
3.3 New Beer Fistributors, NYC bottle: pours dark amber with a beige head. Aroma is toffee, dark fruit, and heavy hops. Taste is bitter and sweet. Plenty of heft. Quite malty. Heavy stuff, but not too bitter. Not a bad beer
3.2 Bottled@hotel room. Amber colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is fruity, floral, wooden, mild alcohol as well as some yeasty notes. Flavour is fruity, floral, yeasty and some mild bitterness. Floral and woodne aftertaste, but the alcohol is a slight bit disturbing.
3.4 Bottle. Pours hazy amber small beige head. Taste is sweet, malty and yammy. Dark fruits, raisins and sweet port grapes. Taste is sweet, malty, light boozy. Not as full as aroma. Light bitter and alcohol in finish.
3.7 Bottle. Amber color. Aroma: fruits and good hops. Taste: well-attenuated, wine, fruits, citrus and nectar, malt, cherry-plum and white porto wine.
2.5 From zombier. In duvel glass. Playing KB Dark Side. Maybe my palatte isnt trained well.enough, but ive been unablr to enjoy this. Ive found it too sweet and alcoholic to my taste, in some way similar to anarchis alchemist but a bit better, a bit less strong, but still not enjoyable
3.2 Hazy amber color beer with a huge, lasting and frothy beige head. Aroma is fruity with caramel, hops and grass. Flavor is very sweet with alcohol and hop bitterness reminders. The end is long, sticky and dry.
3.4 Medium small white mokka head, chestnut brown colour, sweet caramel sirup malts warm fruity smell, medium carbonation medium bitter warming malts coffee spice herbs yeasts taste

3.8 Tried bottled. Colour is burnt orange, clear, with light brown head. Aroma is heavy on fruits, tangerines, apricots, citrus and slight toffee. Taste is similar. Good balance between fruit hops and malts. Bitter after taste, with dry mouthfeel.
3.8 Bottle from Ales by Mail. Burnt orange pour with a beige head. Fruit laden aromas of tangerine, apricot jam and peach. Boozy flavours of citrus, toffee, red apple and a splash of bitter fruit. Sweet/dry mouthfeel. Tasty stuff.
3.9 the aroma is fruity and caramel with hints of dried fruits, toffee, spicy herbs and forest berries... the taste is malty and fruity with notes of plum, raisin, citrus and some grasses... rather complicated... sweet and bitter aftertaste...
3.4 Bottle a cloudy amber colored beer with a white head aroma malts caramel dry fruits yeast spicy and hops flavor malts spicy citrus fruits pineapple some caramel and bitter hops
3.4 330ml bottle. Hazy, copper-ish brown colour with huge, frothy, osteoporosing, minimally lacing, beige head. Caramel malty aroma with toffee notes, fruity hoppy overtones with notes of mandarine, orange, gooseberry, mirabelle. Taste is moderately sweet malty, hints of caramel, toffee, a bitter coffee touch, some dried fruit, raisin; bitter, minimally papery finish.
4.2 bottle 330ml, dark reddish with white head. It falls quite fast but leaves a nice lancing in the glass. Very complex aroma of wild strawberries, cherries, spruce, soy sauce, honey and lavender. Very good balanced taste begining with nice but not overwhelming sweetness, over some delicate refreshing sourness ending in a bitter finish, that stays for a while. Perfect carbonation makes the beer very enjoyable. The warmer it gets the brighter are the feelings of aroma and taste. Like with a good cherry brandy.
3.8 Caramelbruine kleur met een goede crémekleur kraag. Ruikt zoetig, créme, caramel, honing, fruit. Smaakt zoetig, caramel, créme, vanille. Beetje bitter, tikkeltje koffie ook. Best lekker. Bitterzoete, iets alcohol afdronk.
3.5 Strong reisin and dried fruit aroma. Similar taste of special malt dominated by dried fruits with strong enough continnental hop bitterness. Good balance.
4.1 Strong sweet and sour cherry aroma, sharp coffee, dark malts and some grass (hops). Dark yellow, almost red and cloudy. Off white head. Complex flavours, a lot of diversity. Round flavour, everything comes together the right way: cherries, plums, coffee, brown sugar, rasins, smooth malty and a bitter hop touch in the end with rasins and coffee. Nice!
4.4 WOW. Bottle, 33cl, pours intense tea with copper reflections and a great long-lasting white head. Gorgeous! Aroma is very interesting with syrupy cherry sweetness of dense propagation mixed with pine needles. Taste is very malty, cherry, leaving kind of liqueur feel with bitterness balanced just fine and spicy aftertaste on the tongue tip. Perfect carbonation, full body, oily, intense, complex, rich, alcohol hidden, high drinkability. Great stuff.
3.5 Draft at Mikkeller SF. Clear ruby pour, frothy white head with moderate duration. Aroma: hard candy cherry (like, jolly rancher) at the forefront dominates this for me. Floral component as well. Taste: malty, cherry, somewhat sweet with a moderately bitter floral hop presence. Some plums? There’s this flavor I associate with plummy old barleywines, but it isn’t really plum - plummish? Palate: full body, creamy smooth texture, average carbonation. Overall: it would be way fun to see what a HOTD collaboration on this beer would look like.
4.0 Rating #1101 - May 24, 2014 - Spring Fling @ Liquor Select - My history brain can’t stop thinking about the treaty of Utrecht as I approach this beer - Aroma is burnt sugar maltiness - molasses, caramel, cookie dough - billowing out of a bubbly amber pour. Quite boozy, but fairly well disguised, this has a distinct North american hop presence in the finish. Almost like a dutch version of Arrogant Bastard. Tasty.
3.5 340 ml bottle. Pours a yellow brown with lots of suspended sediment and light head. Aromas of caramel, rubber, and malt extract. Flavors are similar with emphasis on chewy sweet malts.
3.5 Tap at Kaapse Brouwers. Reddish brown with medium sized cream colored head. Yeasty and spicy, with Apple, berries, vegetal bitter finish. Light sweet but nothing too much. Medium bodied. Nice.
3.7 Keg at PSBH, Manchester. Hazy reddish shade with a finger of head. Hoppy aroma. Taste is also hoppy, fizzy sherbet, malty in the style of an amber ale. Mouthfeel is slightly creamy. Pretty nice. The malt and hops seem to both contribute distinctively and work in harmony.
3.6 from Drankenhuys Amersfoort, 13/5/14. No Head, lots of carbonation. Brown coloured. Hoppy aroma, also some caamel. Citrus in the taste. Nice bitter finish, nice one!
4.0 Butelka 33cl. Słodkie o nutach karmelu i ciasta. Mocno geste i słodkie o równie mocnych gorzkich i aromatycznych chmielach. Polecam. OCENA : smak : 8/10 pijalność : 6/10 styl : +1
4.3 Bottle, 0.33l, shared with Hoppiness crew. Hazy orange brown color with medium creamy off-white head and nice lacing. Aroma is yeasty, hoppy, fruity, floral with creamy scent, too. Taste starts with sweet caramel, follows by refreshng fruity and yeasty acidity, mouthfeel is warming and alcoholic, while finish is pleasantly bitter. Full body, syrupy texture and average carbonation in palate. Good company and such a good beer make your mood quickly better...
