Ruckus Hoptimus Prime

Ruckus Hoptimus Prime

Brewed for Union Jacks. Formerly Legacy Hoptimus Prime. Aggressively formulated with five different hop varieties, Hoptimus Prime is then dry hopped for two weeks, ensuring a MASSIVE hop flavor and aroma. Perfectly balanced with three types of malt, Hoptimus Prime is truly the pinnacle of hop flavor.
This Double IPA pairs fantastically with spicy Thai food, Mexican cuisine, or a big ol’ bowl of chili.

4.1 Pours a deep golden color, a little hazy, with some of the thickest head I’ve seen in a beer. I mean this head is legendary. Aroma is of malts, hops, citrus, some booze, and resin. Medium to full body. Flavor is very well balanced. I can pick up malts, hops, citrus, bread, slight grapefruit, and a little pine. Leaves a nice hop finish. This one definitely lives up to the hype. I’ve been wanting to try this one for a while and happy I finally have.
3.7 On tap at Barley Brothers, Winnipeg. A nice hoppy beer. Citrus, amber with a nice sweet balance. Nice beer.
3.3 aroma is mostly floral hops with a hint of candyish malt, funk and perhaps pine..very nice looking clear amber/orange with creamy white lasting head..taste a very dry potent almost astringent bitterness is the main impression a bit of candylike flavor waaaayy in the background..strangely light bodied slightly creamy feel but again a way bitter finish..overall yes plenty of hops but not plenty of balance and as bitter as the hops are the flavor is lacking in substance..its okay but odd and its bargain priced compared to some is the best I can say about it
3.2 (bottle - 22 oz) Hazy copper pour with thin white head. Bitter and slightly citrus aroma, but mainly bitter hops and some grassy notes. Citrus hints and a light sweetness at the beginning of the flavor but quickly goes to a very dry and lingering bitter middle. Oddly bitter finish. A bit too bitter for me. And it really seemed heavier than I thought it would be.
4.0 An excellent DIPA. Pours a nice hazy orange. Really interesting sweet and sour aromas. Sweet malty flavors followed by a musty and spicy hop finish. This is a really good beer.
3.0 Bomber. Unclear orange, creamy off-white head settles and lasts. Floral citrus hop aroma. Perfumey citrus forward taste, some mild evergreen, caramel malts emerge as it warms. Average carbonation, medium bodied, moderately hopped for a DIPA, hardly massive. ABV is well hidden. Loved the name and was hoping for more. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)
3.3 Strong resin and light floral hop aroma. Cloudy orange color with a small white head. Light palate in the beginning with a moderate bitterness. Palate and bitterness build to the finish with the bitterness fading in the end. Palate stays with you.
3.3 8/15/13 bottle bought at RW $6.99. Shared with dan. Big hop taste. Big Citrus smell but lacking in complexity. Love the name. Love the art work...I'll leave it at that
3.8 Pours gold with off white head and lacing. Aroma of grapefriut and pine hops. Taste is strong bitter hops with a respectable malty backbone. Very good and standard 2IPA.
3.5 Pours orange with decent head. Aroma of banana, cocoa and faint citrus. Taste is slightly fruity, leading to citrus peel, slightly sweet, hoppy, but as much as I expected.
3.5 Dark, amber with almost no head. Not so much hops, more sweet, syrup taste. Seems more like barley wine. Solid beer but definitely mis-named.
3.1 I really expected more from this beer. If you’re going to call it Hoptimus Prime...you best bring it. Although, maybe, it’s a Decepticon???
4.1 Hazy orange colour. Pine cone and esters on the aroma with a yeasty and paint thinner quality. Once this beer opens up those yeasty notes give way to a citrus explosion. similar on the palate, citrus bomb and malts balance each other out alot once this beer opens up. finishes hot and tropical. NICE!
4.1 22oz. Pours hazy orange/amber with average head. So yeasty! Banana all over the place with underlying citrus fruit, oranges, pineapple. Just gets more and more tropical. The palate is quite tropical as well. Tasty and interesting.
2.9 Appearance: Blood orange under a thin pithy head which swirls with spotty lace and a foamy pithy head. Nose: Mild at first, but quickly opens up to reveal spicy stewed stone fruits the likes of peaches and apricots. Key lime and lemon lime along the sides – fresh and zesty. Melba and flatbread cracker crunch underneath. Sticky hop resins in the middle. Palate: Not as heavy as expected given the richness of flavors. Sweet up front with hop resins, peach, apricot, and orange oils. A long lingering bitterness in the back speaks of key lime and orange pith. Orange honey along the edges and on the lips. Quaff and repeat. Final Thoughts: A solid sticky juicy Imperial IPA that had flavor but lacked depth and complexity despite its cool label and pop culture references. Good but not great. 3.7 26 may 2013, bottle. Light orange, clear, steady bubbles. Nose is orange and grapefruit. Med body and moderately fizzy. Sweet oranges, bitter grass, some white raisin. Decent.
3.5 Nice dark amber color with a minimal head. Moderate amount of carbonation. Obviously heavy on hops and some hints of citrus, otherwise not particularly complex. Enjoyable nonetheless and a good example of an IPA but not much else going on here.
3.6 2013-05-18. Dark amber body with a nice beige head. 3++ Sweet malty aroma with interesting hop overtones, resin, green leafy hops. 7+ Flavour is similar, nice malty core, caramel notes, moderate alcohol, resiny leafy hops. 7+ Smooth average plus bodied palate. 3+ Enjoyable, bigger than anticipated - I didn’t realize how strong it was. Needs just a touch more Leadership Matrix. Bottle via trade with Ferris
3.1 I think that with a name like hoptimus prime it should be more of a pronounced hoppier taste. The malt over powers the hops in my opinion. That said although this imo is not a good representation of a dipa it is still enjoyable. The alcohol is hidden well and it is pretty sessionable and refreshing. Not my style as far as double ipa is concerned but tastey
3.5 Bottle. Pours orange gold. Nose and taste of perfumy hops, caramel malt, grass, alcohol soaked citrus and orange peel. Slightly spicy malt. Medium body. Finishes bitter orange/slight resin.
3.1 Pours a hazy amber colour with a large creamy off-white head. Aroma is not too strong but has a noticeable citrus hop scent and some general fruitiness and grain malt notes. Taste is a little too sweet and lacking in bitterness for me. Light-medium body, thinner mouth feel and average carbonation. Overall good brew, unsatisfactory double IPA.
2.6 Color is dark hazy orange. Thin head. Aroma bitter orange zest. Light zest bitter beer. Bottle was way too old. Almost soapy. If you like buying orange/lemon peels get this. Not happy. I wish I had a fresher beer.
3.1 Old bottle from ABC. Pours clouudy light orange with tiny white head. Strong lemon and orange zest aroma with some caramel candy malt. Bit of wet dog. Flavor follows aroma exactly. Lots of orange peel. Not much hops left here. Medium mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Meh.
2.8 22 oz bottle - This beer poured a very nice orange-gold color with a healthy sized almost white head. Excellent color. The aroma was almost non-existent. Good malt flavor, light but noticeable. The residual hop bitterness is pleasant on the tongue. Dry hopping was evident to me in the light resin-like texture on the tongue, but no very strong, expected hop flavor and aroma from this beer. The bottle I got must have been older. I don’t think they can ship this beer fast enough. The shop I got it from said they just got them in and I trust them on that. I have heard other people report similar experiences with the aroma. Overall it’s a tasty beer, but not really what I’m looking for in an DIPA.
2.6 Looks better than it tastes. Nice coppery color with a foamy head and good lacing. Fairly mild aroma slightly sweet and earthy. Taste is not balanced. Creamy upfront with an unripe grapefruit finish. Bitter and sour.
2.7 Bottle, shared with my wife. Light orange-gold, medium off white head. Aroma is bitter grapefruit rind with herbal undertones. Heavy hopped palate, very bitter without a lot of complexity, and taking on a bit of a medicinal quality that I’m not crazy about. Sweet caramel malt structure helps a little, but this beer just didn’t shine for me. Just okay.
3.1 Bottle. Pint. Aroma is mostly of hops and malt. Not many other smells come through. Poured a hazy light orange. Thin head and mild lacing. Taste was rather disappointing for a double IPA. Alcohol comes through and the hops are well done. But the malts fall flat and there’s really not much other body to this beer. Certainly not a bad beer, but nothing to write home about.
3.0 650 mL bottle purchased from town for $6.99 exactly. I used the Smuttynose pint I got at Smutty’s promotional tap takeover in Hampton. Its pour is a amber golden with which sustained a creamy eggshell one and a half fingers head. Smells of soil, mushrooms, hops, and caramelized onions. Taste of vegetable hops, saltwater, seaweed, cucumber, sage, shiitake mushrooms, and vitamins. Yeast, hay, clementine, hop pellets, salt and heat by swallow. Decent by much too salty without much in regards to its malt usage.
3.8 Not a fan of beer that has a high alcohol rating but it is nice and smooth, not dry and hoppy. Definitely buy again.
3.4 Might have had an older bottle but I thought this was pretty weak for a double IPA. The taste was pretty good but the bite just wasn’t there. Definitely could have been an older bottle from what a friend said about the store.
