4.6 On tap at the brewery. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a bit of head. Fruity aroma. Nice balance of pluot fruit, funk and mild sourness.
3.9 Draft sample at the brewpub, Santa Rosa. Pale yellow straw coloured pour with a fine white head. Aroma is sharp apple, tart lemon, funky, just a whiff of vinegar, spicy citrus. Flavour is composed of semi sweet and sour, some horsey bretty funk. Pithy lemon, straw. Palate is tart and crisp, highish carbonation.
3.9 Draft at Toronado SF. Pours clear gold with a frothy white head. The nose has some tangy lemon, tangerine, pale wood, citrus rind, light grass. Light sweet flavor with assertive sourness, moderate woody dryness, some bitter grass, tangerine. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Very clean on the finish, fairly dry, lots of citrusy tartness. Good stuff.
3.7 Draft - Lots of oaky wood notes and funk. Clear gold with a small white head. Funky, Woody and nice bitterness. Dry and nice.
4.0 On tap at Toronado. Pours a hazy orange gold with small frothy white head that lasts leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is strong apricot, stone fruit, oak. Medium, tart, oak, plum skin, stone fruit, very nice.
4.4 On tap at Toronado. Lightly hazy gold pour with thin white head. Aroma is really good, bright fruity acidity, white wine grape, peach. Taste is tart, so flavorful, very balanced tartness, gentle acidity. Palate is light-med bodied with light carbonation.
4.2 Draught at Toronado SF. Almost clear golden liquid with small to medium white head. Aroma of lemon, apple, apple skin, mineral, white wine, wood and light Brett. Taste is dry and medium sour with notes of lemons, apple skin and wood. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Excellent.
4.2 Draft at brewery. A soft fruity nose with a bit of tartness. Lightly fuzzy with a stone fruit character but very light in nature and flavor. Sourness is present but not overpowering by any means. Nice fruit balance.
4.2 On tap @ Russian River. Pint down the gullet with Joe Ungström. Somewhat cloudy golden orange appearance with a tan head. The aroma has a bit of funk, plums, stone fruits, vanilla, and white wine. Good acidity. Moderately sour. Juicy plums. Light grape. Dry. Tame.
3.9 Tap @Russian River with two cool cates. Pours cloudy peach, small white head, good lacing. Aroma is oak, peach, lemon, bit of funk. Light sweet, light funk, light tart, stone fruit, skins, lots of oak, vinous. Medium body, some acidity. Good.
4.2 Tap at brewpub. Hazy orange with small white head. Aroma: fruity apricot, slightly sour with small funk, hay and a small barnyard aroma. Taste: nice level of sourness, apricot and citrus, lemon and a small funk taste, white grape note. This is really nice! Always a privilege to get to taste a new sour from RR :).
4.4 Draft at Russian River into a goblet. Hazy golden orange with off-white head. Aromas of vinegar, stone and tropical fruit, wine. Tastes of vinegar, wine, stone and tropical fruit. Medium-light body and very dry. Low carbonation. Very nice.
4.0 Pours a golden yellow with a white head. Tart, funk, citrus and malt aroma. Citrus, tart, funk and malt flavors. Light body and moderate carbonation. Tart, citrus finish.
4.2 On draft at Russian River. Pours golden with big tart aroma. Taste is very mouth puckering tart with some fruits and dry tart finish. Amazing sour.
4.2 On tap at the brewpub. Pours a peach skin hue with a creamy white head. Aroma captures unripe pluot, especially the tart flesh around the pit, with a perfumey fruitiness. Not very acidic for RR standards, but the flavor comes together with pink grapefruit and pluot over a spritzy Juice Squeeze carbonation. Doesn’t quite meet its legendary reputation but it’s very nice.
4.1 caramel, bread, nuts, toast, floral, citrus, herbs, leather, clove, alcohol, raisin, woody, Fresh, crispy finish with a nice soft saur after taste
4.5 A- Pours a deep golden color with a thin, off white head that fades quickly. S- Very tart, ripe fruit, cranberry, lemon T- Apricot and lemon up front leading to a fairly deep tartness. M- Medium bodied with lots of carbonation. D- This is an excellent sour and i’m glad I had the chance to try it. I would definitely order it again if I saw it on tap.
4.3 On tap at Russian River for the T25 party. Pour is a ruby grapefruit red, very hazy and a thin white head. The nose is a bit subtle, the plums are most prominent with some red wine notes, light acetic and lactic behind. The flavor is much more bright, strong plums, red wine and dry oak, assertive dusty brett funk, assertive sourness and light lactic note. Great body, light and airy with great carbonation and a dry finish. Very well balanced, nice sourness to balance the sweetness with a good barrel characteristic.
4.4 Tap@the brewpub, Santa Rosa, CA, 13/08/12. Dusty yellow-gold slicked with white. Wow. Dank, sorachi-like satsuma peel soured to hell; DF cream cheese, lime juice, blue hints, lingering lime and softness. Cheesy hop, old hay, lime juice aroma. Dank, creamy, world class stuff.
4.0 Draft @ RR. Slightly hazy golden with a thin white head. Aroma is all sour consisting of white wine vinegar, funky brett, lightly tart stone fruit and some lactic acid. Flavor is very sour all around but there is some very faint sweet fruitiness that balances it out some. Light body with active carbonation and a dry mouth feel. Great beer, multidimensional sourness really makes this one great, the pluots get a bit lost but oh well.
4.2 1 oz pour at RR A - hazy and light orange S - Horse and ropey scent. Very tart on the nose T - Lots of orange on the taste. Hints of lemon juice. Wheat is dominating and this tart continues to prevail through the finish. Very sour. Finish is fruity like peaches. M - Decent carbonation O - This is a solid wild ale. It’s one I wish was very easy to get on the shelf. It’s pretty damn good.
3.8 From growler. Poured with little carbonation, with a slightly golden-reddish color with virtually no head at all. Aroma was nice sweet and sour fuzzy fruit noes. Flavor was sour and tart - plenty of fruit notes to it. Sour notes hit really hard in the jaw - just how I like ’em. Pretty enjoyable.
4.3 On tap at Russian River. Golden orange color, no head when I got it. Very mild fruity aroma, tasted like apricots with a somewhat sour finish. As someone who typically does not like sour beer very much, I loved this. Great beer for a hot summer day.
4.3 So excited to try this. Shared at Starr's bday tasting. The beer is golden orange and mildly hazy with a soft head of broken bubbles. The aroma is fantastic, offering apricots, stone fruits, wild yeast. Smells like a fantastic Russian River beer. The flavor is distinctly Russian River. Well balanced and fantastic, with apricots and plums. Sour and tart, and very easy to drink. A very anticipated beer that definitely delivered.
4.9 On tap at Russian River. Bright, floral, acidic aroma (in a good way), a balanced sour with a hint of sweetness from the fruit, medium body. A great example of a Russian River sour leaning toward the lighter side, perfect for summer. Paired perfectly with brewpub pizza because the acidity balanced nicely, but this would be a great warm-weather sipper as well. I loved this, and wish it were around longer!
4.0 On tap at RR (6.4% abv). Aroma is super light, but the taste is full-on pluot and lightly sour. This is the most refreshing RR sour I’ve had for sure. Just a really nice beer for Summer days, and I don’t mean one for mowing the lawn. This is decorative garden furniture all the way. Great beer.
3.9 9oz, $7 at O’Brien’s -TION weekend. Mostly clear amber golden with a small swirly off-white head, fading to a thin ring and sparse film. Smells like Temptation, slightly less acidic. Still has plenty of slightly bitter old wood. Flavor follows suit with moderate lightly sweet apricots. Sourness peaked at a 4, dry and oaky, but seems to be tempered by the apricot sweetness. Has a definite whote wine character to it. More bitter than Temptation, peaking at an earthy 3 that lingers. Soft low carbonation with a light body. Tasty.
4.1 On tap at Monks. A: Dark, golden-copper body. Clear. Moderate sized frothy white head with solid lacing. S: Nice funky-earthy-woody notes play on top of peach-apricot fruit notes. T: Similar to the nose. A healthy interplay between funky notes and softer peach-apricot notes. Interesting but not my favorite flavor profile. M: Medium bodied. Dry with a bit more carbonation than probably necessary. O: Nice, but not the best Russian River offering
4.3 On tap at OBriens during Russian River Night 2011. Hazy blond color, with very sticky, lacy white head. Insanely complex, layered aroma showing notes of apricot, pear, yeast and flowers. Some lemongrass present amidst the sour yeast. Big barnyard notes up front in the flavor. Finishes light and soft with more fruit and floral notes. Damn fine!
