Russian River Damnation

Russian River Damnation

In the great beer producing country of Belgium, some brewers have made it a tradition to give their beers an unusual name. Sometimes the name is curious, now and then it is diabolical and other times it is just plain silly. Damnation is our brewmaster’s interpretation of a Belgian style Strong Golden Ale. It has extraordinary aromas of banana and pear with mouth filling flavors of sweet malt and earthy hops. The lingering finish is dry and slightly bitter but very, very smooth.

3.8 Really pleasant. Leans into the Trippel arena. Yeasty with an underlying sweetness. Medium weight and very drinkable.
3.0 not so good
3.8 Bottle. Foamy head. Dark gold. Smells yeasty w cloves. Pepper and very dry.
4.4 Bottle. Classic belgian style blonde ale in terms of appearance, nice beading. Fine dry bitterness, but the sweeter thick corn flakes dominate. Somewhere between a tripel and just a well balanced blonde. The yeast is not very fruity but slightly champagney. Great.
3.6 Refrigerated 12.7 oz. brown bottle corked and capped poured into a tulip. Hazy bright light orange with white head. Aroma is fruity, medium body, lower carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is fruity and light malt.
4.2 Very smooth and refreshing.
3.5 375 mL bottle dated 011514. The pour is a darker golden yellow with a thick pillowy white head that falls down slowly to a thick ring and a nice film. The aroma is pretty good. There is a lot of bright florals and a good bit of Belgian malt. There is a hint of clove, but it’s not overbearing. A sweeter fruit comes in late and helps balance. The flavor is much of the same. There is a bit more clove here that I’m not crazy about. There is more alcohol than the nose would lead on and a decent sweetness. The mouth feel is softly medium bodied with a fluffy carbonation and a lingeringly alcohol heavy clove and Belgian yeast. This is pretty interesting. 7 4 6 4 14
3.5 Bottled 01.15.14. Bottle shared with koleminer20. Aroma is floral, fruity, potpourri, yeast. Appearance is golden, off white head, mostly clear. Taste is floral, clove, slight booze, old, fruit, potpourri, past its prime. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light crisp carbonation, old yeast and floral aftertaste. Overall, I'm sure this is fine fresh, but its a little old now.
4.1 From Jun 2006 This 750ml caged and corked bottle(Batch 008) poured a hazy medium gold with plenty of foam and lots of nice lacing. The smell is really fruity with lots of yeasty notes as well...I could sniff this one for a long time. ;^) The taste is wonderful! Lots of sweet malt offset by a yummy yeasty taste and fruity by way of plum and banana and a good clove presence and this sample from Batch 008 just impresses the heck out of me. I mean, if you poured this son of a gun in a glass without my seeing the bottle you poured it from, I'd swear it came directly from Belgium! Bottom line: This is my 2nd review of a RR Damnation(first was from batch 007) and this one is even *more* impressive. It's an amazing beer from an amazing brewery!!
3.6 Aroma: malt, fruits, candies Taste: malty bitterness on the background, notes of citrus, banana and wood. More fruity and bitter then typical belgian strong ale. Good brew

3.4 Pours slightly hazy copper blonde with an inch of foam that reduces to a fine lace. Peaches, sour apples and bread dough in the aromas. Big bold malty attack, sweetness, very low bitterness, with a typical belgian touch. Finishes a bit sticky. Missing some dryness on the palate to be great!
3.6 Draft at the brewpub. Aroma of soft yeast, malt and yellow fruit. Taste of yeast ester, yellow fruit, peach juice and malt. Belgian style, but these americand are better at it.
3.3 Clear golden ale with a lasting white foam. Belgian spice is peppers and coriander that lasts long into the finish.

4.1 Rating #2475 - 2017.05.03 - Draught at Monk’s Cafe in Phlly. Clear, golden pour with a hint of cloudiness Aroma is banana, yeast, and spices. Taste is brown sugar, candied pear, mild spice, and absolutely superb. Finish is clean, mild sweet, mild alcohol. Beautiful expression.
3.8 Tap@ pours yelowish golden, slightly clear with foamy white stable head. Aroma: toffee, biscuit like malt notes, banana, pear like esters, clove like phenols, some grapes also, spicy hop character. Flavor is practicaly the same, some brett, hint of tartness, dry finish. Body is moderate, texture soft, carbonation medium.
3.8 Hazy tiny burnt deep yellow pour with a frothy white head. Crackers, red pears and subtle but complex brett nose. Hay, minerals, dew and barnyard. Spicy and tiny fruity taste. Dry slightly sparkling mouthfeel. Simple but very much to the point. Plenty of estery fruits with a clean brett profile. Nice beer!
3.7 Bottle--thanks, Bruce! Sweet pineapple juice aroma with some pilsner malt and peppery phenolics. Hazy light orange under a thin white collar with a fine bead. Delicate honey and eucalyptus flavour with a dry, subtle farmhouse character. Light body, medium carbonation, refreshing.
3.7 Bottle: Poured a golden carbonated white head. Aroma was fruity. Taste is a soapy ester.
3.9 Aroma - has a mix of clove, coriander, sweet malt, and Belgian yeast. Appearance - the body is a dark gold that slopes down to a light gold, with abundant nucleation. The head is white and about 1/2" and stays tight and fades slightly into half it’s size. White walled lacing. Taste - has a decent amount of Belgian yeast, with a slightly sweet malt. There is a small amount of spice to include coriander and clove. Palate - is medium, the texture is smooth, the carbonation is average, and the finish is slightly spiced and otherwise mild.
