Saint Arnold Spring Bock

Saint Arnold Spring Bock

An authentic, German-style Bock, celebrating the coming of spring. This strong, deeply flavored lager has been aged to create a smooth, malty taste with a hint of sweetness. A light addition of German hops balances the malt flavor.

Saint Arnold Spring Bock is best consumed at 40° Fahrenheit.

3.5 12 oz. bottle from crajun. Pours a clear dark amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have some sweet malts, caramel, bready malts, mild floral hops, I thought this was pretty good for the style.
3.6 Had on tap at Jack Mac’s in Dallas. Pours amber with a thin persistent off white head. Aroma is malty and toffee, with a very slight roastiness. Flavor follows and is fairly sweet. Overall, nice beer.
2.9 Light booze; spicy, earthy hops; ink; and cereal in the nose. The mouthfeel is oily and slow, with medium viscosity and prickly carbonation. The taste is boozy/malty bitter up front, with spicy hops taking the lead towards the middle and a whisper of toffee towards the end, for an otherwise dry and mineraly finish. Serviceable, but not my thing.
3.1 Rated on 02-18-2013 at Saint Arnold B.C. The appearance of this draft beer is a small beige head with a long retention, transparent amber body and fast rising carbonation. The aroma is caramel malt, sweet and light hops. The flavor mimics the aroma. The mouthfeel is smooth and this beer is light bodied. Overall, this beer is easy to drink, but a bit on the light side for the style.
3.2 Wasn’t too crazy about this brew. had it with spicy spicy crawfish so I think that had something to do with it. Gonna give it another try next spring lol
3.0 Draft. Hazy amber color. Aroma of toast and light caramel. Taste is burnt caramel.
3.4 Sample at Cock & Bull Pub in Sarasota. Clear pale reddish-brown color with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, fruit and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, fruit and earthy hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.
3.3 Cloudy orange/amber with a small white head. Light malt aroma. The flavor is lightly sweet. Could really use more malt depth in the flavor to be a real top notch Bock, but certainly a drinkable beer. Thanks to crajun for this one!
3.0 Pours a clear amber color with white head. Cereal grain, caramel malt, and some light hops on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes sweet.
3.4 Bottle, 355ml. Pours clear copper with a modest offwhite head. Aroma is of dry fruits, caramel, roasted malt and perhaps some slight sourness. Medium body and carbonation. Rich and warming finish, though not very bitter, instead focusing on the roasted character.
3.1 Bottle, 355ml. A dark orange beer with a head that fades away almost immediatly. It has a medium aroma and I’ve been told this is how a bock is supposed to smell. Taste is bitter and it has a medium alcohol finish. Maybe at the end is also a little bit watery.
3.6 Bottle - Brownish pour. Nose of malt, lager yeast, and a small hint of brown sugar. Taste has that nice malty presence with the crisp lager finish. Good representative of the style in that its not over the top and an easy drinker.
3.5 Copper, amber color with a thin, quickly disappearing head. Aroma of caramel. Sweet, malty taste with a hint of citrus.
3.0 Bottle. Pours a dark amber, small white head. Aroma of yeasty, small malt, maybe even corn. Taste is malty, sweet, better than the aroma. Maybe even a tad of smoke. ok.
3.4 Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle, from BMart, poured into a snifter. Pours clear copper with small off-white head which dissipates quickly. Aroma is caramel malt, medium body, low carbonation, and very little lacing. Taste is caramel malt with balancing hops. Easy to drink for a bock, pretty dark for a heller.
3.3 Clear copper with a quickly dissolving head. Minimal amount of visual carbonation. Moderate malt aroma. Medium body with an excellent hop malt balance. Nice lingering finish of wanting more. An excellent Bock.
3.9 Copper brown in the glass, the beer starts malty and slightly sweet. Highly drinkable. The mainpart is nice malty-sweet with hints of bitterness without beeing to sweet-sticky. Dark fruit, a bit viscous and still highly drinkable. Not really a Heller Bock - the taste is more like a Dunkler Bock. The aftertaste is long, smooth, malty-crisp and dry with hints of sweetness, molasses, plums. Nice! A very nice and good Bockbier! --> 13/12/13/13
3.4 Location: Draft at Ginger Man - Houston, 2/11/14 Aroma: The aroma is toffee, caramel, and bread, with a little bit of a floral/grassy hop Appearance: This one pours a clear amber-orange, with a frothy beige head and good lace Flavor: The taste is rich and malty with a light hop backbone to it Palate: The body is medium, with average carbonation, and a light dry finish Overall Impression: First spring beer of the (way before) season! It’s 35 in Houston today for heaven’s sake, drinking a spring beer just seems wrong. Anyway, I thought this was a pretty flavorful example of the style. It isn’t an amazing beer, but it isn’t half bad either.
3.1 Another great entry from saint arnold, a bit of toffee, some malty biscuit, nice clean finish.
3.2 Poured clear brown with white head. Slight sweet aroma. Very sweet honey taste.
3.0 Pours a clear brown orange with a white thin head. Fruity aroma similar to a lager. Crisp finish.
3.0 Bottle poured a clear amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of carmel, brown sugar and a hint of fruittiness. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, brown sugar and light earthiness with a smooth lingering carmel finish.
3.0 Amber with a thin head and a malty, sweet nose. Moderately carbonated, malty mouthfeel followed by a finish with caramel and brown sugar.
3.3 Bottle. Pours a beautiful copper color with an off white, fairly quickly receding head. Nose is light caramel, light toffee, light leather. Flavor is toffee, caramel, toast, with a somewhat biscuity finish. On the sweeter side, could be a tad dryer. Pleasant carbonation.
3.3 Bottled. Cant tell the color. Malty breads aroma. Similar taste with overpowering malty sweetness. Decent.
3.5 Clear light redish brown with small light brown foam head. Aroma is light caramel with little coffee. Taste is nice bitter, small coffee. Nice long lasting aftertaste. (Houston 201303)
3.2 Central Market bottle. From my experience with maibocks (which is not much) this seemed pretty true to form. They always seem to be a little alcohol forward; this one included. Good but this is not really my style.
3.4 A malt forward aroma. Some caramel also noted. Pours a clear amber with a rapidly dissipating off-white head and minimal lacing. The taste is lightly sweet. Strong malt flavors combined with bread, caramel, and a touch of grain in the finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Almost a creamy mouthfeel. Overall, I liked it. While slightly sweet it was subtle and not cloy at all. It went well with lunch - rice, corn, and black beans. Yumm
1.8 from notes: poured amber with a small white head that disspated really quickly. the smell consisted of some citrus, alcohol, and hops. The taste i didn’t care for, mostly alcohol and hop bitterness.
3.0 Clean light amber/orange hue, thin white head. Roasted malt in the nose. Sweet...really sweet. Carmel in the middle, slightly oily. Faint hop presense at finish.
