Saint Arnold Texas Wheat

Saint Arnold Texas Wheat

[Editor’s Note: Formerly known as St. Arnold Kristall Weizen.]

A refreshing, flavorful filtered wheat beer. The perfect beer to accompany a meal or for a summer’s day. The wheat contributes a lighter flavor while maintaining a rich body. The beer has a light hop profile -- just enough to give the beer balance and complexity. The light fruitiness is derived from a proprietary yeast strain. A chill haze may be present, which is a characteristic of wheat beers.

Saint Arnold Texas Wheat is best consumed at 40-45° Fahrenheit.

3.3 Sampled at GABF on 9/18/2010. This wheat beer pours a slightly hazy light gold color from the tap. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, cereal and citrusy. A light to medium bodied wheat beer. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are floral. Decent carbonation. Light and refreshing, crisp and clean. A good lawnmower beer. Finishes a touch sweet. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
3.0 Sampled at the brewery. The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is about what you would expect, with a lot of wheat as well as some lemony and orange notes. The flavor is a lot of wheat with some lemon. Not very complex, but fairly refreshing. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
2.8 Pretty weak but not terrible. Never really been a wheat ale fan anyway. The flavor has a nice lemon-citrus bite to it. It’s sessionable.
2.9 12oz bottle from Gabriel’s. Pours a clear, dark yellow body with a fizzy, quickly receding head. Aromas of yeast, wet cardboard, grassy hops, vegetal and what some felt was "...warm pee..." Flavors are light bready malt, slightly corny, grassy hops and no pee. Effervescent, fizzy carbonation and a medium to full mouthfeel. Odd aromas hurt this one.
2.4 Aroma is sweet wheat, yeast, and bread. Notes of cloves and bananas stand out. Appearance is way too clear. A little lighter than expected on the palate.
2.9 Yellow, mostly clear, good thick and frothy head. Aroma of citrus - maybe lemons. Taste is a bit malty for a wheat beer. Finish is only slightly bitter, and perhaps one of the better features of this one.
2.4 Bottle labeled "Texas Wheat" as opposed to "Weizen" in the picture. Yellow pour with a large foamy white head. Aroma is grains, honey, dryer sheets. Flavor is sweet, cereal, meh. Honestly has a similar flavor to the milk that you get after eating a bowl of Fruity Pebbles.
2.2 An aroma, an aroma, my kingdom for an aroma. OK, not really; I don’t even have a kingdom. Which fits, because this beer doesn’t have an aroma. The flavor is acceptable enough -- sort of a neutral, beginner’s version of a wheat beer -- but the utter lack of any olfactory stimuli pretty much moves this one to the ’not again’ list.
2.1 Bottle:   Pale golden, translucent, large finely bubbled white head, spotty lacing, little to no carbonation.   Definitely a filtered wheat beer.   Nose is off, very pale wheat but moreso a sort of vegetable presense.   Oh vay.   Getting the same thing on the tongue.   Wheat aspect is very pale, very dull, and instead this one seems more cereal or mash like.   A bit astringent as well.   Does have a bit of sweetness on the backside, but its very grassy.   I am finding it hard to believe this is a Wheat Beer.   Too much vegetable in this one to make it even remotely interesting.   This was pretty much a let down on every level.   After having a Franziskaner this afternoon, this one just makes no sense.   Most American Wheats have some form of wheatiness, this one just does not deliver on any level.   Blech... I am pouring the rest out.
3.0 Bottle [12oz] shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- c/o garthicus. Pours a clear deep gold with an average size white head. Aroma of grain, wheat and some light sourness. Flavour of grain, wheat and light citrus. Average bodied. Just O.K
3.0 Golden and hazy in the glass. Sort of grassy and citrus aromas with smooth wheat flavors. Easy to drink and quite refreshing.
2.2 On tap at the new brewery! Pours a cleary yellowish-amber with a nice head. Yeasty sweet malt aroma, with a smooth, refreshing taste, but nothing out of the ordinary. Disappointing but so is the style.
3.1 On tap at the Ginger Man in Austin, TX. Slightly hazy light goldenrod pour under a short white head. Aroma of biscuits, lemon and hay. Mostly a modest malty flavor with notes of banana and mild citrus. Thin but not watery texture and not much of a finish. An average American Wheat in an above average beer joint.
2.3 Bottle: Pours a clear yellow gold color with light head. the nose is lightly zesty with some wheat, some light esters and a touch of distant hops. All of that is filtered out however and you’re left with a shell of a hefeweizen. Grainy, the esters come off as fusels and you get a weird european malt liquor taste. Bah.
2.7 Bottle ( 12oz ). Shared by garthicus with me and blankboy. Clear gold, average white head. Grainy aroma, slightly sour - taste is simple fresh cereal grain; chewy but light mouthfeel, only mildly carbonated, slick, a bit astringent - meh.
2.8 hazy gold pour with a small white head. taste of citrus and hops. i will drink it again!
2.5 Thanks to Blutt59. Appearance: Straw yellow with a tiny white head. Aroma: Dirty grassy aroma with vinyl and new trash bags. Flavour: Toasty corn, wheat, slight yeast, a bit of butter. Not offensive.
3.1 Bottle. Nose is sweet grains without much else. Fairly clear pale gold with a small white head. Full bodied and clean with a spicy finish. Not much to it, but refreshing and crisp as appropriate for the style.
2.8 Bottle pour into glass, moderate carbonation, with a short lived white head. Looks clean, clear, golden yellow. Mild flavors and aroma....piney, mild hops, with just a touch of citrus, not much maltiness to it. Nice body, goes down smooth and easy after mowing the lawn. A nice, simple Texas wheat.
2.5 A little bit sweet and very easy to drink. Texas summer kind of smoothness.
2.8 12oz bottle courtesy of Cavie poured into a wheat glass. Pours clear pale yellow almost like a macro with a medium white head. The aroma is light, creamy, and quite sweet. The flavor is smooth wheat with just a hint of citrus and hops. The body is thin and the mouthfeel is high carbonation with an odd but pleasant starchy dry feeling.
2.6 Poured remarkably clear for a wheat. A super short white head appeared and offered only bits of lacing. The aroma was yeasty and sort of floral. The flavor was more caramel malts and some light floral, earthy notes. Thin body, easy drinking.
2.8 Pours golden with two inches of white, fizzy head. Head is long lasting, minor lacing. Taste is light, with wheat and malt notes. In the Houston heat this goes down great., though I probably like St. Arnold’s Lawnmover or Summer Pils more for session drinking.
2.6 12 oz bottle. Hazy yellow with a foamy white head. Very carbonated. Nose is very light wheat, yeasty, a bit soapy. Taste is very tangy, with very light wheat and yeast tastes. Very carbonated and a light body. Not my favorite style and definitely the least favorite of the St. Arnold stable for me.
3.2 Good wheat; went down easy and fast; need to drink another to get more details..
2.8 courtesy of lowgear. Pours clear golden, thin white head. Aroma of wheat, yeast and malts. Taste is similar, added malts and light caramel; with a herbal/pine hoppy mix.
3.3 this used to be the krystalweizen but change the name to accomodate the difficult time people were having saying the name This pours a golden color with alot of clarity due to filtration I am sure. The nose is that oven oven fresh bread and is reqal nice. This is not a hefe, so if you are looking for a hefe go eleswhere, this is a texas wheat. It has a real bready tast on the mouth and is very nice to drink but will fill you up quickly Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 04-09-2008 16:32:22
3.0 Bottle courtesy of theisti. Pours a slightly hazy straw/gold with a fluffy white head that diminishes fairly quickly. The nose is a dusty and slightly musty wheat with a faint citrus note in the background. Light-bodied and thin with a mildly wheat/grainy mouthfeel. The flavor is of lightly dry "wheaty" malt with subtle citric and cardboard notes. There’s nothing particularly exciting or offensive about this beer. It’s just a decent, quaffable wheat. I would imagine that this is a summer staple in a lot of Texans’ refrigerators. Thanks for the bottle, Tim.
2.7 Bottle. Golden color somewhat hazy in look with a slight white head. Smell is wheat, malts, grassy, and a little yeast. Taste is malts, wheat, sweet, maybe some spices.
4.0 Says wheat but does not taste of wheat...that’s a good thing. I liked this one.
