Saint Somewhere Lectio Divina

Saint Somewhere Lectio Divina

An amber ale brewed in the spirit of the abbey ales of Belgium. Lectio Divina gets its color from candi sugar, as it is made without dark or crystal malts. It is brewed with the same care and attention to the Art of Brewing that is practiced in the monastic breweries of Belgium.

3.7 Liquide opaque, ambrée avrc une belle mousse laiteuse. Un intéressant hybride habité de marmelade et aux accents minérales profonds. Les malts de spécialités font un excellent travail de complexification.
3.6 Transfer from BA review on 8-10-13- Served on tap in a tulip glass Appearance – The beer is served a darker amber reddish color with a small off white head. The head fades rather quickly to leave some spotty lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is fruity and tart with a good level of funk. The fruity smells are mainly of a lighter fruit nature with apple, pear and some peach. Along with these aromas however is a tart and vinegary aroma with some hints of a sour cherry and yeast. Rounding out these smells is a funky haylike grassy smell producing an overall fruity and funked aroma. Taste – The taste begins with the fruit that was detected in the nose. Apple, peach and pear flavors are complimented with a sour cherry taste and a bit of yeast. As the taste advances, some spices flavors as well as a bit of haylike funk nature. While these flavors persist to the end, the funk and sour cherry grow stronger and are accompanied by some boozy tastes. In the end, with an apple cider vinegar flavor getting more intense, a quite sour and fruity funked taste is left on the tongue. Mouthfeel -The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is average to above average. The slightly higher carbonation is rather nice for the fruity and funky flavors of the brew creating an overall mouthfeel that is very appropriate. Overall – A decent saison that is worth a try if you get a chance, but is likely nothing that will totally blow you out of the water.
3.6 Beer Bloggers Conference - San Diego - Super Belgian Strong Ale. I was impressed great flavors and the yeast characters were very pleasant. Super tasty. Nice coloring and finish.
3.5 750 ML bottle 2013. Dark orange rust almost earth brown pour with lasting medium head. Bright wild nose. Some fruit. Refreshing and nicely wild finish.
4.2 Saint Somewhere Lectio Divina is a well-executed Belgian Strong Ale. Aroma of prunes and plums coming from this dark orange-brown pour with a thick tan head that holds throughout the drink. Taste is heavy prunes and plums with a touch of funkiness. I wouldn’t say Lectio Divina is a standout Belgian ale, but is certainly enjoyable.
3.1 Pours Amber but hazy. Lacto taste though spoiled milk did come to mind at times. --- RATED
3.5 750 Ml bottle. Cork blew off this one before I could even touch it. Pours reddish dark with a fruity, berry aroma. Flavor of apples and berries with a little pepper and wild yeast. Finishes a little sour with more dark fruit. This one is different. Not bad at all.
2.3 Wow is this stuff overpriced. Bought a bottle of 2010 vintage and thought it tasted like caramel cigarettes. Maybe Saint Somewhere can sell the recipe to Camel.
3.8 Bottle sent by Weezel, thanks! Pours a really hazy orange brownish with an off white head and lots of lacing in the glass, aroma is pretty interesting, some sweetness mixed with a kick of a little bit of funk and barnyard and fruit at the same time, the flavor has a sweet and caramel front end with a fruit yet funky finish, slightly sour but nothing crazy, just a little different, interesting for sure.
3.5 750ml bottle, from Dutch’s. Shared with friends over a game of Catan. Totally hazy red orange color. Thin khaki head. Some loose dots and ropes of lace, nothing sticks. Medium to bigger body. Soft, kind of sharper carbonation. Gets smooth after a chance to mellow out, though. Finishes dry. Bigger bitter taste, lightly spicy. Nice dark fruit, belgian yeast, light spice aromas. Kind of peppery. Maybe a very light bit of tartness to it gets more noticeable as I go, not really "sour" though at this point. Solid, interesting saison.
2.9 Bottle. Pours dark orange-reddish color with a large head that disappears quickly. Smells of some fruit, berries. alcohol. Taste is tart, with a lot of fruit and alcohol finish. Not bad but the tartness takes over in a not-so-good ways.
2.9 Pours deep ruby, two finger off white head Smell juicy, light tangerine, tangy, peach and earth, strawberry Taste very light tart, bretty, bit of hops, strong alcohol, very carbonated Medium body Ok I guess
2.9 Bottle at Exira Beer Summit IV. Thanks to adnielsen for bringing the bottle. Pours a hazy orangish tan color with white head. Malty, slight nutty, caramel, funky aromas. Very tangy, caramel, dusty, yeasty flavors. Not a huge fan of this one.
3.4 Bottle @ Exira Beer Summit IV. Thanks to Dr. Owl for sending. Pours a murky reddish orange appearance with a cream colored head. Candy sugar, orange candy, spicy funky yeasty, slightly spicy cinnamon aroma. Tangy tart grape/vinous, black cherry, caramel, funky yeasty flavor. High carbonation. Doesn’t blow my mind and kind of a creative idea but not my favorite. Shows a bit of age.
2.8 Cloudy orange unsettled look. Small head and no lacing. Smells like fingernail polish. Doesn’t taste as bad, but wouldn’t try it again.
2.8 Large head dissipates quickly, caramel colour. Aroma of acetone, yeast and raisins. Tastes of raisins with an acetone palate.
3.3 Poured from a bottle. Hazy orange color, large off white head that dissipates rather quickly. Grape and finger nail remover smell. Wild yeast and grape and alcohol flavor.
3.0 750ml bottle hazy chestnut brown big 3 finger head. Nose is tart, cherry notes, musty, lacto, soil, earthy. Mouthfeel is on the thin side and extremely carbonated, a bit too much. Taste is musty, earthy berry, spices, nutty, dark fruit notes. Finish is tart, grains, fruity, spice, bready. Some decent flavors trapped in there but overall pretty messy. Just OK. (From 10/30 notes)
3.2 2010 Vintage. Aroma has some light caramel and toffee notes with a moderate amount of candi sugar. There is a hint of toast with some sherry oxidation. Moderate prune, raisin and plum notes with light cherry character. Pours a fairly cloudy amber brown with a thin tan head that quickly recedes to the edges. No lacing and small legs. Flavor starts fairly sweet with some light caramel and toffee as well as candi sugar. Faint hints of darker malt character appear but quickly disappear leaving behind a ton of fruit notes. Lots of prune, cherry and raisin as well as a strong vinous sherry note. Slightly tart finish with a moderately strong alcohol spice. Lingering light bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium low carbonation. Medium low astringency with medium alcohol warmth. Overall not a very enjoyable beer. I don’t get any Saison character unless its the slightly acidic and vinous finish in the flavor. Super strong Belgian fruit notes compared to everything else. Lots of oxidation character as well. I am sure the age has something to do with my opinion of this beer but it also probably wasn’t great when fresh.
3.6 Copper, hazy, beige head. Grainy, biscuity, crackerlike malt, sweaty-sock funk, light tart cherry and some peppery notes.
2.8 Pours dark cloudy brown with fast fading fizzy white head. Very woody tasting. Aromatic hints of apple like a cider.
3.7 Rated on 01-11-2010 (Corked & Caged Bottle) This beer pours a medium sized beige fizzy head that mostly diminished, transparent body, fast rising carbonation, one ring of lacing, and a reddish hue with an orange tint. The Aroma is that of apples, clove, yeast, spicy, sweet, and fruity. The Taste is sweet, mildly sour, fruity, spicy, funky, sugary, and has a dry finish. The Palate is tingly and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, the Aromas and Flavors are enticing, is a nice winter beer, worth trying, and a beer I would drink again.
3.8 750 ml bottle. Pours a cloudy copper color with a large white head. A big woody sour nose. The flavor is interesting some dark malts, wood, Brett, sawdust, smooth toasted malts. Very easy to drink. Nice.
3.1 Poured from a 750ml bottle, thanks to Doug. Notes of apple, sweet lemons, caramel. A bit sweet for a saison. Meh.
3.5 Hazy toffee/amber colored pour. Small off-white head. Not much lacing as it quickly races away. Very nice acetic note. Not overpowering. A nice malty undertone mixed in with the funk. Very tart at first but quickly replaced with a slightly watered down malty taste. Burnt crackers. Sweetish finish. A little thinner in the back than I would like, but a very good beer.
3.1 750ml bottle shared by Doug Hazy golden with a small off-white head and some lacing. Aroma of fruit juice. Flavors are tart ripe fruit Ok
2.2 Bottle from South Bay Drugs: After unscrewing the wire the cork exploded out and snapped the wire in a huge explosion. I’m so glad it didn’t blow up in my face because that was some explosion. Second complaint I have about this beer is the aroma, it has a strange smell of a non-alcoholic malted beverage. The flavor is just the same and instead of tasting like a beer it taste very similar to a bottle of Malta Goya which I don’t care for too much.
3.8 750ml bottle pours a dark hazy orange. Malty yeast aroma. Citrus and Belgian malt taste.
3.0 On tap at Churchkey. Nose is dry and herbal with faint bread crust. Flavor is dry and mildly fruity. Very odd. Hard to describe. Herbal excess somewhere.
