Salopian Entire Butt

Salopian Entire Butt

Mainly available bottled. Has been seen on tap.
Historically the term used to describe a porter blended from a variety of ales, entire butt uses 14 different malts and 3 hops to recreate this forgotten style of porter. The beer is black/brown with a crisp white head and is distinctly vinuous. It has little hop character as essentially the flavour is derived from the malts. Malts used: pale Maris Otter, lager, wheat, pale crystal, dark crystal, dark chocolate, pale chocolate, black, roasted barley, caramalt, torrified wheat, amber malt, brown malt and malted oats.

3.3 Deep dark brown, nearly black, with a thin light beige head. Nutty chocolaty English aroma. Crisp and medium flavor with a lot of bitter cocoa and roasted black biscuit malt. Lots of roast. Aftertaste has a bit of bittersweet dark chocolate and a touch of coffee. The middle also has a certain mineraliness you usually find in English ales.
4.0 Bottle. Deceptively hoppy/beer aroma, but delightful sweet porter. Very flavorful with light chocolate and malt flavors. Just goes to show you don’t have to follow the current trend of mega ABV to create a very satisfying, tasty beer.
3.3 bottle. clear brown with a large, creamy, tan head. nutty caramel aroma. lots of caramel, toast, nuts, milk chocolate, cola flavors. a hint of ash and tobacco. no hops left. not really as vinuous as it claims.
3.2 The sampler, brooklyn bottle: pour blackish with a beige head. Aroma is lihhtly roasted malt with hints of chocolate and more malt and more. Taste is, as others noted, all over the place. Not really roasty. Not really chocolatey. Not really coffee. Not really fruity. Kind of minerally. Not bad.
3.5 Pours deep amber-brown from 12 oz. Malty aroma, some caramel and plums. Toasty flavor, vinous, with bitter finish. Full bodied low carbonation. Good beer, a bit of mish mash with no defining characteristics, but overall drinkable.

2.8 bottle from Sloth. dark brown body looks like the water when cleaning the nozzles on coke dispenser. lasting khaki head. slightly dusty nose with a bit of white pepper and very light toffee. thin body with a watered down marshmallow flavor and some light caramel. seems like it is just a bit past, but still enjoyable.
2.8 Smell of licorice, tar. Very dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of tar, rubber, roasted malt. Bitter, soft and plentiful carbon.
3.1 Creamy texture, a full-bodied, dark taste of malts, chocolate and coffee. A little bit roasted, very much enjoyed this one. Smooth to drink but not without some character to it.
3.5 Dark cola-colored beer with a thin fizzy eggshell head. Somewhat peculiar nose of toffee, raisins, and chocolate cake. Flavor is wonderfully malty with slightly toasted nuts, semi-sweet coffee, cocoa, licorice, and black strap molasses all coming through. A little wisp of bitterness finishes it. Despite all the nuances, it is still rather mild for a porter. A different and enjoyable porter.
3.3 black color, small white head. tastes of malt, light chocolate and smoke aroma. light body, fizzy on the tongue, light coffee bitterness, good texture.
3.1 Bottle 4,6 from Prisma Kaari. Cocacola colour with lasting medium head. Malty mellow porridge aroma with chocolate. Some bitterness. -- rated with beerbasher/winphone
3.5 A pretty good porter, but light than I was expecting. Has some roasted appeal, but the sweetness, some caramel and chocolate, dominates.
3.0 Bottle from backlog notes 07. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, bakers chocolate, some dark fruit character that has a slight tart note, thin compared to most porters, but the flavor is still there, this was one of the first English porters I had and not something I would revisit.
