3.1 Tap at swan and angel. Nose is coffee, chocolate, leather. Palate is bread, citrus, chocolate, bitter orange finish. Decent
3.7 1/2 pint (4.9%; quarterly ale) by hand pump on 28 Apr 2018: coffee, roast malt aroma with some smoke, russet, good beige head with fine bubbles, cocoa, milky, bit earthy, creamy, very sweet, fruity finish.
3.4 Not really a porter. Dark brown. Malty aroma. Mild on palate and hints of liquorice chocolate and dark fruits. Okay. Fair strength. Second pint 2022. Nice and improved
3.4 Cask at The City Arms JDW Coventry. Poured clear red mahogany with cream colour head. Light chocolate malt and caramel notes.
3.0 Not a porter really. Full bodied dark ale. Liquorice and smokiness to fore in mouth, more residual dark fruit and toastiness. Not great
3.2 Cask at The Green Dragon, Leek (JDW) A deep brown colour with a frothy beige head. Aroma of raisin, other dark fruits, some toast, slight liquorice and subtle treacle. Taste of raisin, other dried fruits, some liquorice, slight treacle, a hint of chocolate and subtle toasted malts. Light to medium bodied and a soft carbonation. A dryish, spicy fruit bitterness in the finish. Lots of dried fruit in this, as well as a chewy liquorice finish. Interesting and has the classic London porter quality.
2.9 Fruity malty ale, can’t agree it’s a Porter. Light body, fruit initially then decent lasting malty sweetness. Decent dark ale.
3.0 Cask spoons. A strange green vegetable backdrop fucks this up.. otherwise chocolate and coffee boxing match .. light roasted nuts
3.3 Pours a chestnut brown colour with a small beige head. The aroma is a light roasted malt with a little caramel. A bready malty fruit loaf taste, moderately sweet with some caramel and nutty earthy flavours and a light dryness in the finish. Nice.
3.5 The only cask on at the angel! Pours deep amber, nose is malty, blackcurrant, toffee, taste is sweet, fruity, light roasted malts.
3.7 Cask, Tap on the Line. Deep reddish brown black colour. White foam. Good rich dark beer, at the sweeter end of the spectrum, some toasty nuts, hint of roast, malt loaf, fruit. Medium finish. Quite a tasty pint.
3.4 (old bottle) murky deep brown colour with a frothy light-beige head. aroma of brown sugar and caramel, very sweet, with some notes of dark chocolate, heavy raisins and toasted malts. flavour is more brown sugar and chocolate liqueur, some earth, fudge and a semi-dry toasted grainy finish. medum-bodied with average carbnation.
3.3 You wouldn’t call this distinctive but it pretty much ticks all the boxes. Dark but not opaque with a decent thick head and a restrained flavour of slightly overdone toast, it is a typical London porter and none the worse for that. Recommended but so are many others.
3.2 Fairly decent porter that rolls off the tongue easily but overall feels watery and a bit too simple. Nonetheless, an enjoyable pint
3.7 Handpump at The Harp, London. Black tough clear pour with reddish highlights, creamy head much retention. Nose: soft oxidation, leather, cherries a bit. Mouth: quite watery and truly dry, some character comes up when you sip it again and again. Infused coffee and some red fruit. The other side of Porter.
2.8 On tap @ The Harp, London, UK. Pours with a dark red clear colour, medium long lasting frothy off-white head. Aroma is medium malty, with some notes of roasted malt, and slightly hoppy. Medium sweet, slightly bitter. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. I think this is not a porter: I don’t know what it is, but it certainly isn’t a porter.
3.4 Cask at the George, Croydon. Pours reddish brown with an off white head. Aroma of mild roast and chocolate. Bittersweet finish.
3.1 How: Cask. Where: Akkurat, Stockholm. Appearance: Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma: Roasted malt, bread, some caramel. Body: Medium body, low carbonation. Flavour: Roasted malt, caramel.
3.2 Cask at Akkurat Stockholm. Lasting light brown head. Malty light roasted aroma. Sweet malty brown malt taste. Medium body and balanced bitterness.
2.0 Aroma: artificial roasted notes, cocoa, caramel. Appearance: clear deep brown color and beige head. Taste: burnt, medium herbal bitterness, coal, burnt caramel, quite dry. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation, roasted finish. Overall: Rather ugly stuff.
