Sambrooks Wandle

Sambrooks Wandle

Cask: Regular. Also available bottled.

We brew Wandle Ale using traditional methods and materials sourced
locally from English producers. We are proud to use Maris Otter malt from Warminster Maltings, one of the few remaining floor maltings in the country.

We use a combination of traditional Fuggles and Goldings hops varieties, together with the more modern Boadicea hedgerow variety to flavour our beers. All of the hops used in the brewing process are whole leaf which give Wandle its distinctive hoppy taste and aroma.

At 3.8% abv Wandle Ale is a well balanced thirst quenching session ale.

3.4 Cask. Pours a decent bright amber, with a foamy head. Some caramel notes, nice malty base. A bit syrupy. Mild hops. Very respectable bitter.
3.1 Tried at the Three Horseshoes Waddington. Amber colour with a white head. Aroma fruity and light malt. Taste malty caramel. Medium body.
2.9 Tap at The Hop Poles, Hammersmith. Aromas of malts, starch and subtle honey. Clear amber body and some white head. Taste is hoppy with plummy notes, honey, malts and autumn flavours in general. OK.

3.2 Standered thirst quenching bitter. Rounded taste with a bitter finish. Slightly desipating but otherwise good.
3.3 Cask @ GBBF 2017. Golden with a small white head. Fruity and malty tones. Fruit, malt, spices and hops. Medium to light body with a bitter / spicy finish.
2.4 Cask pint at the Assembly Rooms, Epsom. Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma of fruit and malt. Yeast gives this a weird taste. Bittersweet finish. When this brewery opened I was told they got their yeast from Hepworth’s. A big mistake.
3.2 Half at Blackfriars. Pours clear amber, lacy head. Soft caramel and malt aroma. Lowuah abv shows in the thinnish mouthfeel, but it’s refreshing, slightly hoppy with a malty note, some citrus. Thirst quencher in the middle of a long walk.
3.3 Cask at the Crutched Friar. A classic English bitter with a deep dark colour in the glass and a malty, yet nicely bitter flavour. It was a bit of a wamr day for a beer like this, but still ok. Good, but didnt set the taste buds dancing.
3.4 Small creamy off white head. Almost clear solid golden color. A splendid very fruity hop taste. Not much bitterness. The aroma is small compared to the big taste with some fruit and a tuch of mint!
2.5 Bottle, 500ml. A cloudy golden colour with almost no head. A somewhat musty hop aroma with fresh orange notes. Flavour has slightly bitter citrus, orange peel, some musty hop coming through. A little watery inn the finish. Not bad for the low ABV.
3.4 Oro con schiuma evanescente, al naso erbacea. al palato base maltata ma apprezzabile amarezza, finisce breve. corpo medio, poco carbonata. molto inglese questa bitter.
3.2 Bottle from Marks & Spencer, Princes Street, Edinburgh. Pours hazy amber gold with a thin white head. Aromas of light caramel, biscuit and lemon. Taste is light sweet, more biscuit. Thin finish.
2.9 Bottle, Marks and Spencer, Enderby. Hazy golden with a thin head. Caramel and bready malts with apple. Mellow lemon bitterness. Dusty yeast. Hints of herbal honey lozenge. Leafy bitterness.
3.0 Clear amber bitter, white head. Light, hop smell. Flavour is quite mild. Some light citrus, biscuit, malt. Touch watery. A decent if fairly standard bitter.
3.2 Cask at drafthouse. Amber color. Characteristic British alr yeast aroma with malt. Soft, smooth palate from the cask. Malt, flowers, some nutmeg surprisingly. Good session ale.
3.4 Gravity cask at the Land Rover Beer Festival 2016. Poured a very slightly hazy straw colour with a thin broken white head. The aroma is woody hop, light citrus. The flavour is moderate to light bitter with a smooth light, fresh, malt, light citrus, hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
3.5 Handpump at Wenlock Arms in London. Clear golden pour, tick white foam with drafts. Nose: butter cookies. Mouth: pale malts feel, English soul, sweet almonds end.
2.3 Bottle from a supermarket near Gt Portland St station, London. Pours golden with a small white head. Aroma of light fruit, hop and grass. Medium sweetness, light bitterness. Light body, thin/waek texture, average carbonation. Label says 4.2% abv not 3.8% though seemed less. Disappointing.
3.7 Sampled at GBBF 2016. Clear amber. Bready malt, plenty of floral hops. Medium bodied, low to medium carbonation. Dry, low to medium bitterness.
3.0 Bottle at home. Deep orange amber colour. Light citrus, oranges and some apricot. Soft carbo. Lightly bitter finish.
2.8 How: Cask. Where: Akkurat, Stockholm. Appearance: Dark golden colour with a small white head. Aroma: Hops, grass, some malt. Body: Medium body, low carbonation. Flavour: Grass, hops, some fruit.
3.2 From bottle.
Bah, smaakt me slecht. Pils, en gister al genoeg op
2.8 Pours clear amber with low white head. Aroma of rye, light caramel. Taste is sweet up front with a mild bitter finish. Light, smooth body with average carbonation.
2.7 Cask at The Knights Templar (JDW), London. Pours mid-amber with a small, off-white head that laces the glass well. The aroma is muted but does suggest soft bready malts and berries. The taste is very sweet and full of almost sickly caramel, banoffee and melon flavours. Far too sweet.
2.8 White frothy average head. Good lacing. Fully diminishing. Clear thick amber body. Aroma: moderate hoppy, light malt, wort, dried banana. Initial flavor: light bitter sweet. Final flavor: moderate bitter (hoppy) light sweet (fruity). Palate: medium body, watery/oily texture, lively carbonation, metallic finish. Very refreshing. Doesnt taste like Bitter, being more similar to a Pale Ale. Slight presence of wort in the mouthfeel appears as flar. 30s gbp1.6
2.9 Cloudy copper body, small white head. Aroma has noticeable hops, nutty malts and some metal. Bit watery and sharp malt on taste. Nice hops for so low abv.
