Samuel Adams (Barrel Room Collection) Tetravis

Its deep complexity begins with a molasses sweetness with notes of dark fruits like raisin and fig and develop further with an undercurrent of tart spice from its distinctive Belgian yeast for a truly transfixing brew.

3.6 Dark amber with dark off white head - Dark malt aroma with some fruity notes - Dark malt body with dark fruity tones with some hints of wood and some spicy flavours in the back - The dark malts and hints of spice from yeasts goes into the finish - This was good
3.7 Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. Hazy brown in colour with a thin white head. It has a rich currant and slight cherry flavour with oak and vanilla notes folllowed by a smooth whisky/wine spicy finish. Very good.
3.8 Bottle to tulip Consummation: Sour vinous caramel with dark fruits, treacle, and clove Adjunct: Caramel, treacle, mustard seed, bourbon, leather, and butter; translucent deep amber with a thin, light tan head; medium/full bodied, sweet and boozy
3.3 Tasted from bottle. Pours a ruby red with off white head. Aroma is dark fruits and figs, spices, grapes. Taste is moderately sweet with no real bitterness. Flavors of caramel, dark fruits, perfume, spices, cotton candy. Overall an average quad.
3.7 Thanks Megan! Mahogany body with copious tan head. Highly carbonated, with effervescence throughout the entire vessel. Aromas of ripe fig, raisin, Belgian yeast. Sweet and malty with a mild alcohol warmth. Medium bodied. This large format bottle is good for sharing a few ways.
4.5 Poured from a 25 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a dark red color with a small off-white head. The aroma is very similar to red wine. The taste has a mild flavor that is heavily red wine flavored. A very good beer, the high ABV is well hidden.
4.3 Rating #1912 - 2015.09.24 - #CraftTakesSeattle Beer 11 - Bottleshare. Dark copper pour with a bubbly tan head, decent retention.heavy on carbonation Aroma is quite fruity, raisins, hazelnuts, molasses. Full bodied. Smooth, silky mouthfeel. Taste is ripened pears, raisin, burnt sugar, hazelnut toffee Extremely smooth finish. Gorgeous.
3.6 Pours dark brown with little head; wonderful winey currant aromas; off dry palate that evokes prunes covered in molasses; hides alcohol well. Very nice quad.
3.6 Unique shaped corked/caged bomber into tulip glass, clear’ish hazy dark amber-brown color with dark tan head. Aroma notes of big dried fruits (figs, raisins, prunes), molasses, wood, some Belgian yeast funk and faint spice. Taste adds more fresh fruits (plums, apples, cherry, some pear), toffee, some tart funk, vanilla, tad boozy and faint dry cocoa. Heavy-medium body, moderate carbonation (love that cork pop), rich, lively with sweet fruity finish. Probably my favorite thing from Boston Beer, very well crafted American take on the quad.
4.3 A dark amber color with a beige head. The aroma contains some caramel, dark fruit, molasses, and spiced fruit. The flavor is rather sweet and boozy with tons of toffee, molasses, and caramel flavors. Some tropical fruits can be detected in the aftertaste. Overall wow a nice beer from SA.
4.3 Tetravis puts Samuel Adams at a score of 2 for 2 in terms of well-executed Belgian-inspired brews from the Barrel Room Collection. Like my experience with New World, I was happy to find Tetravis nuanced, fruity, and highly balanced. Tetravis pours a lovely ruby red with a slightly fizzy head. It smells fruity, spicy, and malty. Toasted malt, caramel, raisin, fig, dark grape, and black currant all show up in the flavor profile. The body is extremely smooth. It lacks the heaviness of some Abt beers, making it creamy and sticky but not as full-bodied as some big beers. Alcohol is hidden pretty nicely. It’s quite easy to chase this off even though these beers are usually sippers. Another great effort from the Sam Adams BRC.
3.7 Pours a dark mahogany brown with fluffy head. Aromas of dark fruit, malts, and some woody notes. Flavors of dark malts and fruits, fig, and some tobacco notes.
3.6 Pours a muddy brown color with aroma of dark fruit, spice, and molasses. Thick body with raisin, molasses, fig, and chocolate. Boozy feel. Good beer.
3.6 Bottle from Portland supermarket. Dark amber body with tan foamy head. Nose is malty, floral and alcy. Taste is also floral, dark fruits, and cherry. Tart. Nice and spicy.
3.6 The pour is slightly dark but the overall finish is lacking. I was hoping for a fuller finish.
3.5 750 ml bottle from Buy Rite. Aroma is full of dark fruit (raisin, prune, dates, etc.). Murky brownish orange color with a thick, creamy, lasting tan head. There’s a lot of spice here too. Clove is the portion of the aroma that lingers the most. Not sure I would have been able to tell this with barrel aged unless it was written on the bottle. There’s nothing oak here at all. Super heavy malty. Fairly full bodied, thick, chewy, cloying, and on the heavier side. Pretty solid, well made, dark fruit and clove quad. There isn’t much wrong with this one really, but it’s just so freaking thick and heavy and sweet that I can’t imagine wanting more than one.
3.3 Bottle. Pours a dark ruby color with quickly evaporating tan colored head. Lively carbonation. Aromas of raisin and fig with a bit of toffee. Flavor is tart and also spicy. Finishes with some sweetness. Full bodied. Not bad.
3.6 759ml bottle 12/1/15 (Sam’s Club-Barrel Room Collection)-38° in Tulip-Pours brown with a small tan ring for a head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, dried fruits, and brown sugar. Taste of the same with a bit more sweetness and a hint of alcohol. This full bodied brew is not too shabby.
3.9 Clear, dark-amber pour with lasting top of beige foam. Kinda looks like a Belgian. Aroma is malty-sweet, with some ripe, dark fruit and alcohol. Flavor is a little fruit-forward, with dark cherry dominating. This overwhelms the malt and any attempt at spice or hops to balance. Finish is sweet cherry syrup. Better than expected, but not in league with other quads of renown. Good thing there’s not a usability score - this is the most difficult cork, on any bottle, I’ve ever encountered.
3.4 Bottle. Deep burgundy hue with a fair amount of haze and a large, pillowy dandy tan head. Aroma is replete with dark fruits -- figs, dates, molasses, maple, brown sugar, a subtle savory steak note. More fruity tang and a good amount of alcohol come through in the flavor. Some lingering sugars, but not too sweet; good balance with apparent strength. Solid.
4.0 Great beer, but a bit expensive for the quality. Perks up the warmer it gets, with some nice barrel sweetness. Quite smooth, without being terribly sweet. A bit strong with the clove but I found it faded after a good breathing. The baked bread hints were really refreshing, medium carbonation was at a nice level. Medium head on a slow pour. The dark color was really beautiful with a dark cream colored head.
4.0 Truly nice. Aromas and Flavors of dark fruits, holiday bread, figs, oak and Belgian candy sugar with a spiciness from the yeast. Weighty and full. Nice dark bourbon color with a small head.
3.8 Backlog rating. 75cl bottle at BottleDog, London. It pours a dark copper color with medium beige head. Aroma is strong sweet malt tones, molasses, orange marmalade, red wine, booze, leather, vanilla and dark fruits. Taste has more of the same: vanilla, chocolate, molasses, toffee, dark fruits. Light booze in the finish. Full bodied with creamy texture and good carbonation. Overall, nice quad
4.4 Sampled from a 25 oz brown corked bottle this beer poured an orange-brown color with an enormous fluffy orange-tan head that lingered forever and left good lacing. The aroma was strong sweet candied dark fruits - mostly raisin and fig with a sugary note. The flavor was sweet, tart and mildly bitter with dark fruits - mostly cherry, raisin and fig - followed by molasses and cognac. Very long finish. Moderately full bodied. Alcohol well contained. Marvelous!
3.7 Bottle @ Haket Pub. Clear amber with no head. Fruity and vinous tones. Fruit, malt, spices and wood. Full body with a long balanced finish.
3.8 Bottle from a Sam’s mixed pack shared when Moose was in town. Murky chestnut color with a nice tan head. Big aroma of a classic quad with hints of sweet, dark fruit, malt, molasses and booze. Traditional flavor too with sweetness, umami soy, dark malt and lingering, warming alcohol. Pretty good Belgian clone.
3.5 a little spiced, a little funky and a little sweet. complex, but sweeter and fizzier than i like. pretty good, but not a standout at a standout price point.
3.7 QUite nice and fine aromas. NOt as good as other quadruppels and maybe not even one in taste. VEry thick and sweet.
3.3 750ml cork bottle opened with loud “pop” bought at Q-Club in SoHo, Central. Looks: Translucent amber brown colour with no yeast sediments; One finger head and soapy light beige foam which fades in 30 seconds; Good sticky lacing with fizzy small carbonation. Aroma: Fragrant and sweet rich malt, with fairly strong brandy, strong plum concentrate, strong raisins, strong caramel, toffee, chocolate, very strong molasses, strong spices and Bel yeast. Taste: Strong sweet amber malt, with pretty strong plum, rum raisins, dark fruits, liquors, strong wood barrels, light funk, carbo, caramel, very strong molasses, strong spices, Bel yeast, light lemon, light bitter hops and grass. Body: Mid to full. Slick and quite thick palate. Mouth Feel: Thick and pretty rich amber maltyness, strongly-carboed to the tongue. The brandy liquor-ish character is quite light-weight and feel robbed, which is quite surprising. Very strong wood barrel with notable funk, very spicy with bits of cinnamon. Strong molasses but sweetness is just right. Not as Bel-yeasty as I thought it should, fair lemony hops to round. Pretty good. Booze and Sweetness: The 10.2% is easy, and the oak barrels somehow brings it out quite easily, but never too harsh. No obvious knock on. That’s good! Hoppiness: Strong spice in nose. Lemon, grass and strong cinnamon spice in taste. Bitterness is notable and for an abrupt, moderate astringent sweet malty finish. After Taste: Slightly dry. Sweet, spicy and fairly bitter to mouth. Comments: The first sniff and taste simply reminds me of a strong Belgian Amber got powered down, like a strongly-carboed and thinned Bush Noel. This one is straight-forward, has a variety of tastes but not layered, rather simple instead. This makes a easy drinking strong Belgian Amber, but perhaps too easy and I was expecting a fun-filled Quadrupel, which isn’t the case here. Okay and fairly decent but far from being great. P.S.: This one is underwhelming for my #1100 rating, but I’ll take it. :-)
4.0 Pours a purply brown with a tan head. Aroma is magnificent, loads of red grape, plum and black current. Vanilla notes, bourbon, bit of yeast. A very pleasant beer I’d happily have many times.
