Samuel Adams Blueberry Hill Lager

Samuel Adams Blueberry Hill Lager

A fresh take on a fruit beer. This crisp, unfiltered lager is aged on blueberries for a pleasant blueberry aroma and taste. To take this fruity character in a new direction,we brewed with Tettnang Noble hops for an added subtle citrus note. A delicious blend of flavors with a smooth lager finish.

3.3 I was looking forward to a Sam Adams blueberry style brew. My expectations did not quite meet reality. however, this is still a good beer to have during the warmer months. I poured this brew into a pint glass and the first impression was awesome; a great murky yellow color with a thin head. The aroma was definitely blueberry. I thought the overall taste was a little lacking. I would prefer a stronger blueberry flavor vice a hint of the berry that this brew delivers.
3.8 Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass The color us a hazy orange with a finger of foamy white head and just the slightest of lacing left on the glass. The smell has a nice blueberry aroma that also teases at a slight orange twang. Really fruity in the nose and promises some touches of raspberry or strawberry too. The taste is blueberry right at the start with a crisp sweet malt that swings through the palette quickly without pushing off any berry flavor. Once things get toward the end the bitterness makes an appearance and hits leaving a slight smack on your tongue. The feel is light with a great drinkable feel and makes for a good summer drinker. The crisp body carries some of the sweetness along and keeps things interesting.
4.0 A little surprised at the strength of the blueberries. I’m not a blueberry guy, but the taste works perfect with the beer.
2.9 Pours clear piss color with medium white head out of bottle. Pretty good aroma of blueberry muffin. Flavor of blueberry with a light wheat beer taste. Not a great beer but not gross either.
1.6 10th July 2014: part of a mixed pack of Samuel Adams stuff bought by my son-in-law and drank on his balcony in Newport Beach. Not my cup of tea! Slight haze to the pour, golden with a short lived white head. The name gives the flavours and aroma away somewhat: blueberries (or a syrup of said fruit) infused with a base lager that fails to blend with it’s bedmate. Sorry, not good. Not even refreshing or thirst quenching.
1.7 Lots of artificial blueberry here, almost overwhelming. Very sweet and syrupy mouthfeel.
2.8 3-way blueberry beer taste test. 1-Sam Adams Blueberry Hill Lager. 2-Fegleys Blueberry Belch, 3-DuClaw Blueberry Citrus Wheat.
2.4 Way too much blueberry. Not good blueberry. Fake stuff. Like cheap blueberry muffins.
2.8 bottled - not very good. Tasted like it has artificial blueberry flavor added. I expect more from Sam Adams. On the other hand, probably only their 2nd beer that I’ve had that I didn’t like.
2.3 a bit too sweet for my tastes, like their cherry wheat. its ok, refreshing, just fakey tasting.
3.8 It’s tasty, not an everyday beer but a good summer occasional beer. The blueberry is very light so it’s not fruity. Otherwise I like the aroma!
2.4 Pours gold with a white head. Nose of blueberry. Light body. Flavor is dominated by the blueberry on some light malts. Not really very good and the blueberry tastes artificial.
2.3 For some of their one offs, I wonder if it is the marketing team rather than the brewers who decide whether Sam Adams beers are sold as ales or lagers. I could not tell the difference between this and, say, Cherry Wheat aside from the fruit or fruit flavor added. It is a cloudy orange beer w/ nearly no head. It’s nose is very mild, lightly grainy w/ a touch of canned blueberry pie filling. The taste is very much along the same lines and really very much reminds me of the filling of a Hostess fruit pie, right down to the weird metallic/preservative taste. This is heavy and a bit sweet w/ slightly over vigorous carbonation. Sam Adams is a baffling brewery. They make some excellent beers such as their regular lager and Noble Pils but then turn around and make this absolutely useless garbage beer. Blame the marketing team, blame the brewers, I don’t care.
3.1 Aroma is almoat completely that of blueberries with slight sulphur notes. Taste is sweet malts and surprisingly lighter blueberry hints matched with a fairly strong puckering bitterness. Appearance is a hazy gold with a bubbly pearl head that retains fairly well.
2.6 No signs of a lager in here, just some borederlind fake blueberry juice. They claim its real blueberries and im inclined to belive them. Quite sweet and sugary, but this is just aldult juice. Meh.
3.3 Pours a pale yellow with a thin white head with very little lacing. Aroma is of fresh blueberries, biscuit malts, citrus, and some light pils malts, Taste is similar to the aroma but also has some light artificial blueberry flavor notes. Has a medium-light body with a slightly creamy mouthfeel and a mostly sweet, crisp, refreshing, medium finish. Overall, a decent fruit beer that smells better then it taste but is still a nice summer beer.
3.2 Bottle - Very pleasant blueberry aroma - Light, pale, subtle yellow color with little head - Light, blueberry taste with slightly bitter aftertaste - Overall good light, summery beer enjoyed on a warm evening, served very cold
3.1 bottle. Poured hazy amber with a small creamy white head. Subtle blueberry aroma over grainy malts. Light body, average carbonation with a tart mouthfeel. Grainy flavour with some sweet blueberry mixed in, light and refreshing.
3.0 Not bad blueberry flavor with light pale lager body. A bit perfumery and boring but nothing really offensive.
2.4 This may have been a month past date and some Sam beers can get bad fast but this sucked. Nice smell of blueberry everything else was downhill
2.7 Aroma of blueberries taste more of the same. Nicely balanced and well rounded. Clean finish. Unimpressive. Not bad but not notable either.
2.3 I have read many of the reviews on this beer and I wonder how many of you have either not really had this beer, have no clue what you are drinking, or work for Sam Adams. I am being very generous with this rating just in case I am completely off base, but this beer is bad. Very artificial tasting. The best thing about this beer is the aroma. It smells much better than it tastes. Little to no head which takes away from it’s appearance. It has an average tartness for a fruit/blueberry beer but the artificial after-taste lingers in the back of my tongue and I can’t get rid of it. I like the hint of toasted almonds but it is so overpowered with the added artificial blueberry taste that I can’t rate it any higher.
3.1 Bottle. Pours a golden color with white head. Blueberry poptarts, sweet pastry aromas. Blueberry, sweet malty, fruity flavors. Average blueberry beer.
2.7 No too tart or too sweet. Starts a little grainy with the blueberry flavour that starts mid way and move to slightly tart at the end. Very crisp, but perhaps a tad artificial. Could have again.
2.6 Not bad for a fruit beer, Blueberry aroma is sort of overwhelming, but if you like that kind of beer, it probably isn’t that bad. The blueberry taste is more subtle and balanced with the hops, Overall, I thought it was a pretty good beer and will probably try it again.
2.8 Totally a fruit beer, and what should you expect? Blueberries prominently in the aroma and flavor. Blueberry syrupy pie, some grainy background flavors (not quite a pie), and then some citrus and white fruit elements too. Body was moderate for the style as was the carbonation. An ok fruit beer.
3.2 Bottle: enjoyed this a lot more than I anticipated. Very nicely done with the blueberry remaining prominent, but not becoming overwhelming. Very nice and fresh tasting... Perfect for a warm afternoon.
2.8 12oz brown bottle. Golden, quite hazy. Creamy and tall white cap. Nose has sweet blueberry. Taste has grains and blueberries, thankfully not too sweet in the mouth. Drying end, lots of carbonation. Thankfully not too cloying, but still not very appealing.
2.5 Bottle from a sampler. Pours a hazy amber with cream colored head. Aroma of blueberries and some malts. Taste is mostly just malts with a blueberry hint toward the end.
2.6 Pleasant blueberry and malt aroma. Flavor is light, sweet blueberry, and slightly bready malt. Light body, smooth texture, quick finish. High co2.
