Samuel Adams Boston Ale

Samuel Adams Boston Ale

Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style.

Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style.

Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

3.1 From backlog. 0,3 litre Bottle from Systembolaget Charlottenberg. Golden with offwhite head. Malts, hops and Caramel.
3.0 Pours mahogany/amber with white head. Aroma of caramel and not much else. Taste is slightly sweet, caramel with some bitterness in the finish. Not a lot going on, but to its credit it is very refreshing and sessionable.
3.1 Bottle at home. Clear darker copper, slight white head. Malty, caramel nose. Bubbly, long aftertaste. Light bitter.
3.4 Bottle. It pours a deep copper color with a large frothy cream color head. The aroma is malty caramel with nit and bread notes. The taste is sweet. It is well balanced.
3.1 I liked this better than their Boston Lager. Maybe a little more red in color. A little more malt in the flavor....also a little more hoppy perhaps. Just all around more flavor. It also seemed like a smoother beer to me. A better than average brew. I was happy to try this in their variety pack. Would buy again....especially if offered in an airport or something where choices are limited.
3.0 Bärnstensfärgad, söt bröd-/kaksmak, litet beska. Godkänd.
3.3 Pours a clear copper with off white head. Malty forward in aroma and taste, without the cardboard lager character of the Boston Lager.
2.7 Back log rating so no not s in aroma , appearance etc . Just the saved rating from an old book
3.8 From Aug 2007 Purchased at Bi-Rite Drugs and Liquors in Casper. Pours from 12oz bottle(best by Dec 2007) a clear nice deep gold with an ample head of foam into my very nice Sam Adams glass. This foam just hangs around forever and it has a ton of lacing.(drinking this at slightly above room temp) The smell is a nice blend of sweet malt and spicy hops. The taste has a great malt flavour up front....semi sweet caramel dominates initially. In the background, I get some good hop character by way of hop oil and some grassiness. Further sips in and some grain shows up and it's all done very well. Very smooth, very tasty, both of which make it very drinkable. Now I'm noting some earthy tones as well. How the heck did this one fly so long under my radar?? Very very well crafted brew that I should start enjoying more often. The mouthfeel is just right for the style and the finish is just slightly bitter but overall, the balance just leaves me shaking my head. Darn good stuff!!
2.4 Aus der Flasche getrunken (Händlerlieferung). Dunkles Amber mit weißer Schaumdecke. Leichter Malzton.
4.1 12oz Bottle- I think this is a great beer, Similar to basic Sam Lager but has a slightly sweet/earthy malt, subtle caramel finish that makes you want to drink more and more - The better of the two -It’s simple and tasty. You can drink many of these and won’t wake up feeling dried out and thirsty, like a hoppy beer with a higher alcohol content. It’s hard to come by for me but I will buy it if I come across it.
3.5 Bit funny. This beer I'm having is slightly different from what's written here. The ABV is 5.0% to begin with. But the rest of the stuff is similar so let's go. ***** AROMA: sweet caramel and malt, a bit of toasty toffee chocolate. Not sickly in smell, there is a constant floral note that balances it all out. Overall sexy, would take this beer out to a nice date. ***** APPEARANCE: nice light amber head when I first poured, fizzled out quickly. Assume it's because it's an old bottle that is about to expire this month. Half decent lacing and a beautiful orange colour tho. ***** TASTE: hoppy but not aggressive hoppy. Some lingering sweetness and a bit of herb but it's mostly a one-dimensional bitterness. Honestly not bad but hmmmm. ***** PALATE: high carbonation. Medium body. Bitterness prominent af. Bit underwhelming but okay. ***** OVERALL: bang on suits the style description. You may like the style, you may dislike the style but this is a good beer. I'd order it.
4.1 niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice beer
3.6 Pours clear light brown , minimal head. Aroma,is pleasant caramel malt, hi rd of plummet fruitless. Aroma starts with sweet caramel, then hop bite, finishes more yeasty. Taste doesnt hang together quite,as well as the aroma, but a pleasant, fairly light flavorful beer.
Schmeckt malzig süß, leicht bitter, leicht alkoholisch, minimal fruchtig.
3.1 On draft at T-Bones, Bedford, NH. Appearance is clear medium brown (like iced-tea) with nice sparkle, no head and no lacing. Aroma is biscuity malts. Taste is same as aroma. Palate is medium bodied with average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, not bad but decidedly one dimensional and nondistinguishing.
2.5 Bottle from Danish supermarket. Maltty, lagery, heavy, no real character, flat and little taste. Meh.
3.4 Draft at Yardbird and found out this was brewed by Boston Beer Company. A light pour, mild body, pale malts. Clean and straightforward. Earlier Rating: 4/30/2012 Total Score: 2.6 Amber pour. Light malts on the aroma. A pretty straightforward and easy to drink beer. Went well with pizza. Not much going on. Sweet with a touch of hops, fairly well rounded. Some caramel mixed with pale malts. Lighter than Boston Lager.
3.8 Appearance and aroma are great although the taste does have a nice blend of sweet and hoppy. I feel this beer is missing something.
3.4 Light copper, heady, lacey. Aroma is nutty mineral earthy, citrus?,English. I like the character of the aroma. Taste is same and englishy, estery. TAstes more like a Samuel smith than sam adams. Spiecy like, some fruitiness. Pronounced bitter. Smooth creamy soft.
3.2 Cerveza color ámbar oscuro ligeramente turbio. Aromas a maltas dulces y tostadas con sutil amargor. Al paladar consistencia semi líquida, con notas a maltas tostadas y dulces. Con sutil amargor al final. Agradable cerveza.
3.1 Gylden brun klar med fingerhøyt beige skum. Lukter fløtekaramell og honning. Lett pluss i fylde. Søtlig honning, lett bitterhet. kort.
3.3 12oz bbNov2017, BL sampler 2017-1. - Crystal clear auburn-amber pour, dense toothpaste white pillow. Sweet near-lager aroma, honeypops and damp maple syrup on pancakes, crackling hay. Smooth, filtered yet ale-round. Hefty walnut bitters of both astringently toasted malts and UK hops. Stock ale sounds like lagered ale, aka a smooth indeed Boston Kölsch of sorts. Or an inverted East Coast steam beer?
2.8 Pours clear copper. Aroma is malty, biscuit, bread, sweet. Taate is malty, bread, sweet.
3.0 Bottle. Pours lightly cloudy amber. Aroma is mostly malty, but also clearly an amber, a bit of candy. Body is medium with a low carbonation without getting flat or boring. Palate is rather short. Works well.
2.9 Bottle @ DTU with colleges. Appearance: pours clear amber with ok white soapy head and lacing. aroma/taste: grain, bread and light caramel and fruity notes. palette: medium malty aroma, average carbonation, light to medium body, average sweetness, somewhat balanced by light to medium bitterness, average duration and a watery texture. Overall: quite ok sweet amber.
3.1 I had it from the bottle. The taste is caramel, chocolate, and coffee. This is very smooth. It’s a nice balance of roastiness and sweetness.
3.4 Couleur ambrée; mousse blanc crème; arômes et goût maltés et lègèrement fruités; finale légèrement amère
3.4 12 oz bottle dated 2/2011 served in pint glass. (From 2011 notes). Appearance: a clear, medium amber body capped with 1 finger of bone head. Good lacing. A small amount of sediment (added). Smell: Toasted and sweet caramel-scented malts with light hops. Taste: Toasted maltiness dominates first, but then the hops with a mild citrusy bitterness come forward in the finish. Mouthfeel: Light-medium body; crisp; medium carbonation. A nice step up from other widely available macro-brews, but not as good IMO as such Sam Adams products as the Noble Pils. Very good for style.
