Samuel Adams East-West Kölsch

Samuel Adams East-West Kölsch

Our version of the traditional German Kolsch style is fragrant and complex. The Alsation hop we chose imparts a subtle citrus note. Jasmine Sambac, a night blooming Southeast Asian flower, adds a delicate floral aroma and flavor to this layered and refreshing brew. Cheers!

3.1 Nice mindless summer beer. Heavy on the honey flavors. Straw is in there too. Easy drinkin.
2.9 Poured out of a bottle, blonde in color, white micro foamy head with minimal lacing. The aroma was lemon citrusy with hints of malt. The taste did not match the aroma, very light watery hoppy taste.
2.9 Bottle. Pours gold with a medium white head. Aroma of light malts, floral hops and a hint of fruit. Light malt flavor, light caramel, floral notes and a hint of fruit. Similar finish with some added spicy hop notes.
(Rating #4420)
3.9 From Beerlicious iPhone App: as far as Kolsch’s go this one is nice. citrus aroma. Golden clear color with minimal head . Light bittery notes and finishes sour. Short duration. Light body thin and slick with an astringent finish.
3.4 Bottle->SA glass. Straw color with short head. Aroma is grass with citrus and floral notes. Flavor has herbs, hops, and malt. Very light, but that is the point. Refreshing.
2.7 Not bad for a Kolsch but not my favorite either. It was a little too sticky at the end for me.
3.3 This was a good beer, but didn’t particularly stand out in the summer pack. Not terribly complex, but good for a meal or at any social gathering where you don’t need to pay attention to your beer. Good summer brew.
3.3 Sweet, fruity, and malty. Light and floral with a huge fizzy white head. Smooth finish. A good summer beer.
2.9 Straw yellow with a thin white head. Aroma of malt, light fruit, plae malt, light yeast and mild lemon. Taste is sweet and malty with light yeast, mild citrus and lemon and finishes up clean. Kinda bland but ok.
3.6 Pours transparent straw with short lasting soapy head and some turbidity. Aroma mostly of malt, bread and a faint floral/citrus. Taste is not overpowering and malty at first, then a grassy/crisp aftertaste. Easy to drink, pretty good kolsch.
3.2 Nice golden color like a white wine. Taste wasvery floral like a typical Kolsch. I was never a big fan of this style, but it beats drinking a Heiny!
3.6 medium sweetness, lightly bitter, lively carbonation, medium-full body but goes down easy. Really creamy texture, spicy going down, then a very bready finish and aftertaste.
3.6 Bottle at Sander’s place, NYC during an evening of heavy drinking. Pours clear gold with a fine, white foam of a head. Nose is all pale malts, white bread. Medium to strong sweet flavor, very bready, but not cloying at all. There are notes of faint berries and light bitterness. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Clean finish, faintly toasty, more bready malts, mostly white bread. Very sessionable lager. Yeah, very drinkable.
3.2 12 oz bottle from the sampler case. Not nearly as good as some of the native kolsch styles I’ve had in the past, but a pretty good effort from this side of the ocean. Properly dry and a nice foamy head are two of the good points I can recall.
3.6 First beer of this style I’ve ever had. Not too bad! Definitely going to try some more of them!
3.2 Kolsch styles just don’t get enough love. They lack the huge hop flavor or high alcohol of the imperial styles, choosing instead to go for a more subtle and mild flavor. This one is rather grassy on the nose and light citrus on the tongue. Mildly sweet and infinitely drinkable.
3.3 The first time I had this beer I loved it, definitely one of the smoothest beers. And instantly became my mom’s favorite. But the 2nd time I had it, it tasted completely different, like a skunk beer, and i kept drinking it to see if I can get the taste I did the first time. So I’m not sure how I rate it, I would love to try it again sometime.
3.1 Bottle. Pours clear gold with a quick white head that fades. Aroma is malt and earthy metallic notes and some sweet spice. Taste is malt forward with a light spice and bitter earth finish. Palate is thin and chalky.
3.4 Pours a golden color. Smell is a bit of malts. Taste is malts, bready, slightly sweet. Overall a refreshing summer beer.
2.6 Oh sir samual adams how long its been since I have tried a beer from you! Pours that average lager look or light clear amber with an almost fizzy creamed head. Aromas of light jasmine, slight caramel, light grass, and light hay. Flavors are lightly grassy/hay, slight corn, slight grain, and light hint of floral(hard to see it as jasmine on the palate). Theres a light bitter/dry finish with a grain/corn like aftertaste. Bland mostly. Adams sure does have a wide variety to offer. I still remember this being one of the first companies I started trying for micros aside from the masses of lagers. Thank you samuel adams for being the first crossroad into micros!
2.7 Pours a light gold with a white head with no lacing. Smells of sweet malt and grass and floral notes. Not much on the taste besides sweet honey . Mouthfeel is light and low carbonation. Not a very good beer, close to a drain pour.
2.5 This tasted with Bar-B-Que from Buz and Neds. The beer poured a golden color with small head that dissapated into a small white collar. Some floral notes on the nose but not much. No bitterness maybe some sweetness. Soft carbonation and smooth finish with some citrus.
3.1 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a crystal clear yellow-gold color with a medium sized foamy yellow-white head that lingered and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was perfumey, herbal, a bit floral and citric - all vague and somewhat light. The flavor was tangy biscuit, perfume, floral hops and hints of hibiscus and pepper. Medium length tangy perfume and herb finish. Light to medium body. Ok.
3.8 Bottle at home. Always happy to try a new Kolsch!!! Pours clear honey-fold, thin white head, really nice lacing. Nose is clean grain, some light sourness, no hint of the promised flowers, and no hint of the "gunsmoke" character I associate with good Kolsch... Nevermind, the smoke just showed up, the beer just needed to warm up a bit. Flavours are cramy, chalky, and round, with nice light smoke, rich mineral, and a surprisingly creamy body. Nice stuff, although the nose could use a bit of work.
3.4 I’m getting a floral and grassy aroma to this one. Much stronger smell than I expected from it. Very light and easy drink, going down nicely. I actually get the nice hint of citrus they refer to in the description, which is nice.
1.8 Wait a minute......? What the fuck are some of you talking about/?Please email me with the answer? This is an average looking pour with some lacing on the glass and a decent nose. But it doesn’t taste like anything. No flavor whatsoever. I really don’t care what a beer looks loke so much as what it taste like. This tastes like tap water with a little lawn grass and hops added=nothing!!!!!!!
3.7 Pours clear gold with lots of sediment hanging around in it. Aroma is malty caramel and floral hops. Citrus, sugary sweetness, and some floral hops, bubblegum?. I don’t know if I have had a Kolsch before but its definitely different. Having trouble trying to pick out the weird taste. Its got alot of flavor for its light body though. Nice and refreshing, Pretty good summer brew.
2.9 Clear medium yellow body with a short lived white head. The aroma is very mute but consists of light malts and a subtle hop aroma. Light malt flavor tempered just a bit from a passing of hops. Clean and light; albeit a bit boring. Lawnmower beer.
3.1 This is decent. Not special. I don’t get hints of anything. Not bad to just relax with.
