Samuel Adams Harvest Pumpkin Ale

Samuel Adams Harvest Pumpkin Ale

A perennial favorite at our Brewery Halloween party, this reddish amber ale is perfect for fall. Real pumpkin adds a full body and sweetness, while deep roasted malts lend a toasty finish to this subtly spiced brew.

3.1 Umber color with a tall, silky beige head. Pumpkin and mild spices, with mace, nutmeg and cinnamon and ginger. Flavors are really thin. Some toasted malt, light spice, and searching, searching… I don’t like to be overpowered by these pumpkin spice brews, but give me something. 5/12
3.7 As far as pumpkin beers go this was my favorite outside of dogfishhead punkin . Very easy drinking and just enough pumpkin taste but not too sweet. This one had nice spices on the finish which was my favorite part. Would try again next year.
3.6 Chestnut pour, fading finger of tan head. Nose is roasted grain. Little sweet. middle is unsweetened pumpkin, caramel, dollop of spice and earth. Finish is bittersweet. Very drinkable.
4.1 Not a lot of pumpkin flavor. More like an Oktoberfest. Pretty good still. ---Rated via BeerBuddy for iPhone.
2.4 Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Copper or Amber color. This is way too much pumpkin spice for me. It's overdone, not as much a beer as a flavored cola
4.3 Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The beer is a nicest clear amber color with a small off-white head. The flavor has a nice minimal pumpkin flavor that is equal to the aroma. An outstanding pumpkin ale.
2.6 Has an unusual scent of Pepsi Cola with a light sprinkle of Nutmeg. Clear reddish color with a short-lived, foamy tan head. Obviously an "Autumn" brew with the Pumpkin Pie spice flavor. Some cookie dough sweetness, a tad cloying. I’m not a fan of these types of beers, this isn’t a bad beer, just not one I can drink much of.
3.0 12oz bottle poured into a snifter. The aroma is sweet caramel and pumpkin pie and it pours a clear, oily red brown, amber hue with a llight, off white, dense head that has a light retention and lace. The taste is a nedium high sweet and light bitter combination. The oily texture has a light fuzz, and the medium body has a palate profile that’s burnt caramel with pumpkin pie flavors. The finish has a spice to it with roasted squash and nuts. It’s cloying and sugary with an aftertaste of burnt sugar.
3.2 Deep autumn color. Malty nose with just a touch of spice. Very full body. But tastes isn’t that strong. Still nice malty brew
3.2 I’m just not a big pumpkin beer drinker. First couple sips OK like a dessert drink but after that I’m just finishing to finish. It’s me not you if you like it. My wide likes pumpkin beers she will probably like this.
3.3 pours a nice reddish brown has very a little tan foamy head. the aroma is pleasantly obvious with touches of spices. including cloves, nutmeg, cardamom and cinnamon, the pumpkin is noticeable in the undertones. taste is good but not great. not bad for a pumpkin bear. has noticeable sweetness. finish ends too quickly and has a slight after taste, of burnt pumpkin.
3.7 Nice ruby color and a very small head. Aroma is...pumpkin (and a little sweet bread). Taste is very malty and pumpkiny with a tiny bit of yeast and a peppery zest to it. Aftertaste is like pumpkin bread. A very light body and light but zingy carbonation. Very nice! I’m always a little hesitant with trendy flavors but this is a solid offering.
3.0 Bottle from the warehouse. Pours amber with an off-white head. Nose is some gourd, some pepper, spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice. Flavor is similar- some background malt, some nutmeg, some cloves, some allspice, and mild cinnamon. Light to medium in body and not a bad pumpkin overall.
3.8 Normally I try to avoid pretty much anything labeled as pumpkin, whether it’s beer or otherwise. But this beer really worked for me. Particularly because, despite the label, it was unexpectedly hoppy with a relatively subtle pumpkin aftertaste, which I found quite pleasant. I am a little bit sorry that this is trying to be such a distinct fall beer, since I would love having this on a warm summer day. Great feel, and a subtle, yet distinct flavor.
3.7 Pours a ruby color. Thick tan head. Not long lasting, some lacing. Aroma is spices. I’m gonna say nutmeg and allspice mostly. If it didn’t say pumpkin ale on the label, I wouldn’t have guessed it. It’s also kinda malty. Taste is mostly following the nose. I taste the malts. I can taste some pumpkin, but more the pumpkin pie spices. It is very smooth. It’s a touch bitter at the end. It’s balanced, but leaning sweet, but barely. Mouthfeel is probably the best part of the beer. Medium bodied, rich and a little chewy. It’s very smooth. Highly drinkable. Overall, it’s good. I’ve had better pumpkin, I’ve had worse. If i were trying to decide between this and a different or new pumpkin, I’d go for the new one. I think this could stand some more spice, or maybe a touch more sweetness.
3.2 Orange pour. Nose is pumpkin and spices. Taste is malts and light spuces, pretty bland.
3.4 Bottle, Ann Arbor, MI, USA. Deep clear amber-brown. Minimal head. Metallic caramel aroma with some faint cloves. Flavour is all clove, medium body, sweet, some pumpkin and nice sharpness at the end.
2.6 Pours a copper from a bottle, lots of heavy pumpkin spice, not really pumpkin-y, just spice, allspice, cinnamon and clove mainly. An okay dessert beer.
2.9 From a 12 ounce bottle. Pours a medium brown with slight carbonation. Nose is of cloves. Decent taste. Pumpkin is more sweet than spicy. Finish is muted. This one could be more flavorful, but that might be off-putting to the masses.
3.3 Pours brown to orange with a beige head, aroma of pumpkin, carrot, Cinnamon, clove, Cardamom, flavor of pumpkin, carrot cake, Cinnamon and clove, medium bodied.
3.0 Brown-golden pour with a khaki head. Cinnamon, all spice, and pumpkin on the nose. Flavors approximate the nose. Although pumpkin is noted a little easier.
3.2 pours a nice amber color, slight head, smell of spices. Taste of pumpkin and spice, a nice change of pace. I picture drinking with snow on the ground
3.2 Bottle: Poured a super carbonated bubble producing brownlucent with off white head. Aroma is veggie with sweet malts. Taste is massive spicy, nutmeg, pumpkin, and sweet malts.
2.5 Rated on 10-30-2013 (Bottle from Krogers Marketplace-Fort Wayne, IN) This bottled beer pours a large smooth beige head with a short retention, transparent orange body, slow rising carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. This beer’s aroma is light pumpkin, lightly malty, nutmeg, and clove. The flavor is sweet, light pumpkin, spicy, and caramel malt. The mouthfeel is smooth and this beer is light bodied. There is very little pumpkin element to this beer. It is rather bland tasting and somewhat boring to drink and rate. This is probably the least pumpkin tasting beer I have rated so far.
3.0 Opaque copper brown. Negligible head. Aroma consists of nutmeg, cinnamon, malt, and caramel. Thin bodied. Caramel, malt, roasted nuts, and the previously mentioned spices are present in regards to taste, but unfortunately this one is severely lacking in both robustness and pumpkin flavour.
3.1 Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks zvsn. Clear bronze with beige head. Pumpkin and nutmeg aroma, sweetish, a little yeasty taste. Light body, bitter and a little yeasty finish.
3.0 Bottle shared at a tasting. Clear amber with a creamy head. Smell of pumpkin, spices, clove, caramel. Sweetish, spicy, malty, pumpkin flavors, light bitterness. Light-medium bodied, long finish. Decent.
2.4 Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks zvsn. Clear orange-amber with a beige head. Aroma of pumpkin and spices. Sweet flavor with pumpkin, caramel and spices. Medium-bodied.
4.6 Pours a clear amber color with a medium white head that left plenty of lacing around the glass. The aroma is pumpkin, cloves, spices, and nutmeg. The taste is very similar to the aroma. A slight bitterness to round it out. One of my personal favorite pumpkin beers.
3.5 [Bottle] Copper colored pour with a fizzy tan head. Aromas of allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon and sweet pumpkin. Flavors of sweet pumpkin pie and more of the associated spices. Brown sugar, caramel and residual sugars in the finish. Decent balance, could have scored higher if the sweetness was toned down.
