Samuel Adams Juniper IPA

Samuel Adams Juniper IPA

For this special release, we wanted to brew a flavorful winter IPA that captured the aroma of the season. This brought us to juniper berries, which add a slightly sweet, piney character. Complemented by citrus notes from American hops, this balanced IPA will brighten the holidays. Cheers!

3.5 Bottle. Poured a light amber color with a pretty large, fluffy white head. Aroma was some pine, juniper notes, citrus body. Flavor was pine, juniper, biscuit malt notes. Actually pretty refreshing for a standard SA beer.
1.7 Oddly bitter. Viscous lookin. Candy perfume. Strong flat cloying & mouth coating. Difficult finish.
3.8 Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a slightly clear copper/bronze colored body with a full two finger white foamy head that rises a bit above the glass and dies within two minutes leaving some decent speckled clingy lacing gracing the sides of the glass The smell had piney hops, juniper with some toasted malt. The taste was resinous sweetness that comes across with the juniper pretty well, sweet sticky aftertaste and finish. The palate was about a light to medium, mostly sessionable, carbonation comes across smoother than most AIPA’s but still good for the most part, and for me. Overall, this was a good AIPA that adds in a different element that I’m not used to having, way to go Sam Adams, I’d have this one again.
3.5 Very interesting. Kinda sweet and somewhat refreshing. Not tiring as many IPAs but very nice to drink with mates.
3.3 bottle. Golden with small head. Very mild hops and a quasi-spruce sweetness. Pleasant and nice, but I’d like a few more hops.
3.5 Sampled on 3/14/2014. This India Pale Ale pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Medium to large sized white/beige foamy head with good lacing and nice retention. The aroma is piney and grapefruity, malty and sweet. A medium bodied India Pale Ale. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are grapefruity and citrusy. The juniper berries are more evident in the taste than the aroma. Decent carbonation. Nice mild long lasting bitterness. Some herbal notes as well. Very drinkable IPA. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
3.2 Bottle from Sam Adams winter mixed 12 pack. Pours light amber. Off white frothy head. Piney aroma. Flavor is hop bitter. Haven’t tasted Juniper, but assume that’s the flavor I’m picking up. Typical IPA mouthfeel. Overall decent drinkable beer. A typical SA special seasonal. The kind of beer that you like, but you won’t ever seek out again.
4.0 A- Amber with decent head and retention. Good lacing S- Malts and citrusy bitterness. Can’t pinpoint anything in particular though. T- Citrus bitterness and some malts. Wasn’t expecting something like this from SA. M- Very drinkable. Light and pleasant. O- Came with SA Winter variety case. First off, is this SA? I was not expecting something this tasty. Will definitely enjoy this again!
3.3 Bottle:   Fairly full bodied shrubby IPA.   Not all that hoppy or bitter.   Has moreso of a shrubby bitterness, perhaps the Juniper?   Decent body.   Pretty damn shrubby overall.   Shrubby!!!
3.0 pours a clear amber red color with a thick fluffy white head. the aroma is floral, sweet, slight citrusy. the taste is very mild for an ipa. you pick up some mild hops, grassy, slighty acidic, very floral. not a bad beer.
2.9 Got a few of these as part of a variety pack at Christmas. The juniper does add an interesting flavor. It is kinda sweet and earthy at the same time. Not bad, but not necessarily something I would search out again.
3.7 Medium amber with nice head. Pleasant bitterness, but still smooth for an IPA. Juniper is not overpowering. Pretty good.
2.4 Not a big IPA fan, so perhaps this rating is a bit biased. However, as IPAs go, this was actually my speed. Not too hoppy or bitter and the juniper flavor added a nice touch. All and all, as IPAs go, a decent beer.
3.0 Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s Fort Collins. Pours a burnt orange appearance with a cream colored head. Grapefruit / tangerine citrusy, mild caramel / toasted malty, kind of piney / herbal aroma. Chewy cracker / toasted malty, orange / tangerine, slight caramel, piney flavor. Fairly clean but not something I’d be inclined to drink again.
3.0 Sam Adams juniper IPA is a height copper pour with a firm head of tiny white bubbles. This beer is true to the label with quite a bit of heady juniper in the nose backed by a touch of honey.taste is crisp and dry with a decent amount of bitters throughout. Body is lively as tiny bubbles persist through the swallow. A nice little IPA from Sam.
3.2 Pours a golden hue. Very odd aroma. Taste is comfortable with a good balance. I like it.
3.5 Bottle. Poured a beautiful dark golden color. Clear. Medium head. Aroma of junipers, pine, floral citrus hop. Medium bitterness. Average carbonation. This is a tastey unique ipa. Well done again Sam Adams.
3.0 Bottle. A- Hops, spruce, juniper, citrus. A- Orange color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Medium bitterness, mild citrus notes, piney. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, slight bitter finish. O- A quality IPA that I was unsure about going in to it. The citrus tones balance the hops well and provide a slightly sweet bitter taste to this IPA.
3.3 Bottle from Ron. Not bad. Hits you in the nose like you just chewed on pine needles and released their nectar. Starts dry, mellows, then dries back out again. Interesting.
2.4 I dont understand this combination. Juniper berries and IPA just sounds a good idea, but in reality what is left is bitterness that is longlasting and not refreshing more like annoying smell you cant get out. Not my style.
3.8 The appearance of this brew is a clear orange color with a medium white head that does fade at a medium pace, and the aroma blends resin and floral hops and juniper with a hint of diacetyl. The taste is quite bitter with a hint of sweetness, which is a bit too unbalanced to be truly enjoyable, and the palate fuses an average carbonation, .medium body, slick texture, and a bitter finish.
3.1 On tap at Barrels & Bottles. Dark gold and clear with a sticky white head. Aroma and flavor of pine, berries, resinous hops and citrus fruit. Average body with a crisp, clean finish. Hoppy and fruity with light sweetness, nice balance.
2.6 Aroma was decent hop scent up front with a juniper blend. Taste was okay, not a particularly great ipa...and a juniper finish that just didn’t jive well to me. This beer was given to me and I would not purchase one, glad I tried this but that’s about all.
3.9 IPA glass. The juniper blends nicely with the hops giving it a more mellow taste. Pours a clear amber with a huge head, lots of lacing.
3.9 12 oz bottle from the holiday sampler case. Pours with a minimum head and a yellow to tan color. Medium body with a nice finish of gin like tastes. A fun to try beer but perhaps only for one time.
3.0 Clean amber look, with a small amount of head. Has a pleasing citrus/spruce aroma. Has a nice juniper like after taste that reminds me a bit of gin. Dissapointed by the lack of hoppiness for an IPA. Just average by my taste.
3.6 Pours golden with a thick white head that slowly dissipates. Good lacing. Aromas are malt, muted notes of pine and citrus. Malty flavors up front, notes of grapefruit, butterscotch, juniper berries. Decent hop bite. Creamy but light mouthfeel. Actually, this is a nice brew. It’s a rather malty IPA, lacking the typical floral hop aroma of most American IPAs and but has nice flavor and a decent hop bite. Very enjoyable. Sam Adams needn’t be ashamed of this offering. Not at all.
3.3 12oz bottle-dissipating offwhite-amber. A-floral/pine, some lt malt. T-floral/pine/spice hops, 2nd grain/lt malt.
3.5 12 oz bottle. Light amber with an average sized off-white head. Aroma is of pine, juniper, floral and light herbals. Taste is of bitter florals, pine, juniper, dried leaves, earth, and light citrus.
3.4 12 oz bottle- Pours mostly clear copper with a two finger head. Aroma is piney, sweet malt, juniper berries. The taste is lightly malty, not getting as much of the juniper as I thought, mild bitterness and a dry finish. Was hoping for more.
