Samuel Adams Latitude 48 Deconstructed IPA - Zeus

Samuel Adams Latitude 48 Deconstructed IPA - Zeus

Samuel Adams Latitude 48 Zeus IPA is brewed with only Zeus hops from the Yakima Valley area of WA. The hops are added at three points during the brewing process -- bittering, late kettle and dry hopping. Zeus Hops contribute bitterness and an intense, pungent resinous pine flavor. This brew leans strongly toward the hop character, but is softened by the malt’s sweetness.

3.6 From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with an expiration date of October 2014. The pour is copper-orange with a long lasting puffy off-white head. The hop nose is earthy and spicy with a touch of roasted malts. Medium to better than medium body. The hops seem easier to find in the flavor as they jump out at me more. Lingering bitter finish.
3.3 Just another SA...good stuff but SA with different hops. Has no aroma like RR or Stone...but non the less good drinking beer but there are better crafts out there.
4.0 Honey-orange with a decent slush of head on top. Hops are piney but also a little herbal. The bready, caramel malts are a nice balance in the nose. This one is not a hop bomb. Touch of mineral/wet rock. The flavor is very well-balanced: there is mineral malts, topped with a pleasant, grassy hop character. Has a chunky feel that is very fitting with the moss-like complexities of this one. This one is the best of the sixer so far, I wonder if that’s why they put it last.
3.5 Bottle:   Moderate to light bitterness.   Very soft pith and peel.   Very chewy.   Moderate bitterness, bit a bit boring.   Seems to bring just bitterness.   Looks good, chewy, but fairly simple.   Needs some sweet fruitiness.   I can understand now the 5 components of Latitude 48.
3.7 Golden pour, white head. Aroma is bitter. Some citrus and grapefruit. Taste is pine, citrus, grapefruit and hop bitterness. A little touch of caramel and malts on backend. Very smooth and balanced. My favorite of 5 single hops broken down.
3.2 Amber color with a thick white head. Aroma is light pine. Flavor is pine and mildly bitter with no real malt presence to balance. Comes off a little one note, but not bad.
4.0 Nice golden color, pours with a huge head, nice scent and a good IPA taste, this one probably gives the backbone to the latitude 48 beer
2.9 Draft at Moriartys. Clear dark amber pour with a slim foamy top. Strong Zeus hops. Earthy, woody and resiny. Medium-dark caramel malt backbone. Autumn leaves. Burnt orange peels. Some breadiness as well. Sharp bitter bite in the finish.
3.6 Pours dark brown with a thick white head. Malty sweet slightly pine hoppy flavor. A little bitter but very smooth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy
1.8 Pours a copper color with a white head. Aromas of pine and caramel. Taste is semi sweet and bitter. Flavors of pine sap, caramel candy, rough vegetal bitterness. Brutally bitter and vegetal. Finishes bitter and shitty. No.
3.7 Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a nice amber color with a massive amber tinged head. The head has fantastic retention, lasting a very long time, with it eventually fading to leave a wonderful level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell –The aroma of the beer is a nice blend of pine, citrus, and earthy hop smells. Backing these aromas are some nice smells of a bready and doughy nature giving a rather balanced smell to the brew overall. Taste – The taste begins with sweeter bready and moderately hopped flavor. The sweeter flavors are mainly of a caramel nature with some light hints of an orange and tangerine sweetness mixed within. The hop upfront are largely of a grapefruit citrus nature with some hints of an earthy hop there as well. The citrus and earthy flavors grown stronger as the taste advances onward, with them being of comparable strength at the end. Some other hop flavors of a light earthy and floral nature develop as well, and mix with the malty and sweet, as well as the other hop flavors, to leave a rather pleasantly bitter but balanced hop flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body is a bit above average with the carbonation level being average. The moderateness of both the carbonation and thickness are really nice for the more balanced tastes of the brew. Overall the feel was well done. Overall – This was a malty and moderately sweet but hop balanced IPA with a rather easy drinking taste and feel. Overall rather well done.
3.7 Bottle. Pours clear dark copper with nice off white head and lots of lacing. Nose is pine with some malt sweetness. Taste is bitter pine. A little malt sweetness.
3.2 hard to appreciate after having had the mosaic. brew is good with one dimensional ivy hop flavor and some caramel type malt. some flower in the aroma.
2.7 A mild aroma of hops nothing distinctive, pours a clear copper color. Dry chalky taste with a dry mouth and a mineral palate.
3.0 Poured from a bottle near the end of the night. Spoiled fruit smell, but the taste is sweeter.
3.3 Clear amber color with about a half finger of off-white head that persists and leaves good lacing. aroma is pine and grass hops with light malt. Flavor is the same with a bitter finish.
3.7 Bottle, from Deconstructed 12 pack. Pours a deep amber color with a nice, thick, off white head. Good retention and lacing. Aromas of piney, grassy hops & lemon stand out. Taste is earthy, piney, resinous, and lemony with some sweet malt. Medium bodied with a dry, bitter finish.
3.5 Pours caramel brown with small white wisp. Aroma is pine hops and caramel malt. Taste is a punch of pine hop with a nice sweet caramel malt.
3.4 Bottle from deconstructed Latitude 48 IPA case---pours with a large, white head and amber color. Orange aroma with a citrus taste and some solid malt follow up. Decent amount of bitterness in the finish. Nice. Total Wine.
3.0 Clear amber, thin pale head, plenty of lacing. Highly carbonated. Particularly dry and bitter. Tastes predominantly of lemon peel with faint hints of pine. Another one sided IPA...
3.0 Pours copper with a 1 finger thick head. Head dissipated quickly. Aroma is a very piney giving way to lemon and grass with a faint orange scent. Taste is piney and a bit of lemon but not overbearing. Mouthfeel is resiny and ticklish from the alcohol and carbonation. A generous lace is left after each sip. A good single hop IPA but not the best in this series.
3.6 Somewhat generic hop flavor. Lemony bitterness fairly strong. Piney with good resin. Round hop flavor. Prickly carbonation. Decent IPA but I get distracted by the lemon.
3.5 Bottle. This is a solid IPA. It’s is well balanced, but with a nice piney hop flavor.
2.7 Gold-brown pour, small white head. Minimal aroma of pot and pine. Flavor is pot and pine, bitter finish. Meh.
4.0 Bottle to English pint. Pour deep amber, nice two finger head, loads of lacing. Aroma of pine, grass and orange zest. Taste leans heavy on earthy bitterness, slight sweet caramel. Medium body, resin mouth feel, lively small bubble carbonation. Finishes bitter with notes of spruce, herb, grapefruit and juniper, very dry at the end. This one and Simcoe are my favorites in the series.
3.4 Bottle. Clear rich amber pour with a clingy head. Pine / resin, with some malt. Not as good as some of the others from this series - for me - but I’m more of a citrus hop guy.
2.8 Clear brown amber. Even thin lacing. Delayed burnt toast bitterness. Pine, grass, some sweetness.
3.8 12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, best before 10/2014. Pours crystal clear orange amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, pine, caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity of citrus/pine hops and moderate malt balance; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, pine, caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity of citrus/pine hops and moderate malt sweetness; with a good malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and fairly crisp/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with no warming present after the finish. Overall this is very good IPA. Good complexity of citrus/pine hops and moderate malt balance; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
3.6 Bottle from Wegmans, last in the flight. Pours clear golden, medium off white head, consistent with the rest of the brews. Solid head retention. The aroma is piney, a bit of a sweet citrus and caramel note. The taste has a nice bitterness but very short duration. There is a bit of orange in there and a bit of a grassy hop. Pretty good.
3.4 12 oz. bottle. Pour is a clean orange amber with a lacy white head. Aroma is dank, resiny and bitter with some citrus and pine. Taste is very bitter with a good malty sweetness. Hop profile is resiny with maximum bitterness, lots of grapefruit peel and pine. Definitely the most bitter of the Latitude Deconstructed series.
