Samuel Adams Maple Pecan Porter

Samuel Adams Maple Pecan Porter

Part of the Beer Lover’s Choice 2011.

Samuel Adams is bringing you Maple Pecan Porter. A nutty syrupy porter that just reeks of New England.

Sweet New England maple syrup and a distinct pecan note define this balanced porter. The roasted character of our blend of malts complements the maple sweetness with hints of coffee and chocolate. Reddish-black in color, this full-bodied brew has a sweet and slightly nutty finish.

2.7 Pours a dark brown color with a decent khaki head. Very sweet nose full of maple syrup. Comes across as way too sweet to me and very one demensional with the maple running roughshod over everything else. The light roasted malts come out a little more as it warms. Not one I would return to.
2.0 I really wanted this beer to stand to and be good, but as stated earlier, I have been very disappointed with Sam Adams....I hope the Utopia lives up to its legacy!
3.2 6/22/14. Last beer of the night sitting outside Heidi and Brian's. Maple was very present. Didn't taste pecan. Lil too sweet for my taste
3.2 Aroma: maple, beer. Appearance: dark brown, thin white head. Taste: malty, ash, honey, nut, Feel: a little flat, Ok...maple is just right, but pecan is muted. Maybe that’s for the better as too much pecan would bitter this too much.
3.8 Mild chocolate maple aroma with hint of nuts in background. Deep brown black color. Light film of a head. Mild bitterness with clean finish with a hint of cocoa.
3.2 Nice smell nutty dark roast. Very little head. Taste porter with chocolate notes, coffee, nutty guess the maple is in there as well. Full bodied nice hop bite in finish. Well put together similar to the long shot hazelnut brown of so long ago. Well done
3.9 12 ounce bottle, best before May 2014. Got this bottle from a friend last weekend. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a dark ruby red/brown color with about a half inch light tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice and sweet, it smells like maple, nuts/pecans, and roasted malt. The taste is similar to the aroma, but there’s also the addition of some caramel, chocolate, coffee and a bit of smokiness. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit syrupy and creamy with moderate carbonation. I liked this brew, and if you like sweeter tasting beers then I would recommend it.
4.1 Uh oh, this one’s trouble. I smell dark chocolate, coffee, a little cream, just a touch of dark fruits, slight char, and pecan flippin’ pie! This Georgia boy is happy. Tastes are typical, yet powerful, Porter flavors of dark chocolate and coffee up front. Midway, the Pecan Pie pops out pretty aggressively and is followed by a little bit of smokiness, dark fruits, and light dark chocolate bitterness. Excellent balance. If you love Porters and have a sweet tooth, this one is for you. This would never leave my refrigerator if it were available in 6 packs.
2.7 Aroma is toffee, nutty, licorice, coffee. Appearance is dark mahogany almost black w small off white head. Taste is sweet malt, nutty, coffee, chocolate, maple, light roast. Very little hop bitterness. Palate is medium. Fairly smooth.Overall not bad. I could use a bit more roast and hop bitterness, it is a bit cloying now.
3.2 Bottle poured a dark brown color with a coating of tan head that slowly fell back. Aroma has nuts, maple, and malt. Mouth feel is medium and the carbonation medium low. Flavor has malts, molasses, pecans, mild roast, and some minerals.
3.5 Bottle, pours a reddish brown with a beige head, sweet taste of maple syrup, molasses, nuts, and malt, not bad
3.2 On tap at the Blue Dog in Chalfont. Poured a mahogany color with a small sized off white head. Pecan, maple, roast, some earthiness, and chocolate.
4.0 a well done maple flavored brew. you get the satisfaction of drinking a nicely made porter infused with a little coffee slightly ashy and sweet with just the right amount of maple (which can be fucked up easily) slightly nutty ans satisfying with a pleasant abv that hits you just right. Bravo!
2.9 Bottle. Heavy malt aroma of toasted, light herbs for the hops, and dough for the yeast, with obvious pecan and maple syrup in the background. Head is avreage size, frothy, tan with excellent lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly bittersweet. Palate is medium, watery with a lively cabonation. This Porter starts with a distinct smell which is fairly plaesant, then finishes with an artificially sweet taste.
3.6 Appearance has a dark ruby brown color supporting a thin dissipating head leaving fair lace. Smell of maple, coffee and dark caramel malts. Taste has the dark malts, flavor of coffee and syrup with a nice balance of hops. mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. Overall a nice twist on a good porter.
3.3 Bottled. Poured clear, deeper garnet with a sticky beige head. The aroma picked up sweet maple and nutty notes, with accents of salt and molasses.. lightly detergenty. The flavor found a heavy dose of maple throughout, with prickly roasty notes, charred earth, and nutty notes around.. finished a touch scratchy, with residual roast and bitterness. Medium-bodied and slow-ish through the palate.. filling carbonation.. OK feel. This was aiight.
3.4 From my in laws. A: Dark mahogany with low visibility. Good puffy cappuccino head. Lacing. N: char, roast coffee, maple, biscuit, grain and baker’s chocolate. Burnt brown sugar. Pecan. T: Roasty bitterness and a balancing sweetness. M: Touch watery, medium body. No alcohol. O: Pleasant porter. Maple and pecan come through on varying levels. Wish this had a touch more body, but compares favorably to Black Butte.
3.4 Poured from a 12oz bottle. Aroma is full of rich chocolate and toast notes with a medium nuttiness that works well with the sweet chocolate. Light maple character. Low dark fruit esters. Pours a nice dark down with light brown and burnt amber hues. Moderately thick, light tan head with pretty decent retention. Moderate lacing and small legs. Flavor has a medium light sweetness with light chocolate and faint roast notes. Faint coffee and maple notes with medium to medium strong nuttiness. Light bitterness with light dark fruit esters. Medium light caramel and toffee. Some lingering toffee, caramel and chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Medium light stickiness in the finish. Overall an alright beer with a lot of pecan character, but it feels like it is missing a bit of its base porter character. The maple syrup notes are light, but I think that is probably a good thing. Clean fermentation without much ester character.
3.0 From bottle. Aroma of caramel and maple syrup. Flavour of dark malts and sweetness. Finish is sweet and thick.
3.3 Solid medium brown that is translucent around the edges, one-finger foamy tan head and nice lace. Roasted malt and coffee aromas up front are quickly replaced by maple syrup and honey. Syrupy, almost molasses-like sweetness on the palate with generous pecan notes. Medium body, soft mouthfeel, lively carbonation and a lingering caramel sweetness in the finish. The description "reeks of New England" is perfect.
3.2 Bottle. The aroma is primarily maple syrup. The taste is maple, roasty, bacon smoke. Solid brew but light palate.
2.9 Samuel Adams Maple Pecan Porter lacks overall balance. Not much aroma coming from this dark brown pour with a decent head. Taste is buttery and a little chocolaty with a little bit of a sweet aftertaste. There wasn’t much malt character that one would expect in a porter. Maple Pecan Porter isn’t bad but average overall.
2.8 I’m not a huge fan of this. Maple syrup doesn’t add the best of elements for me - I don’t necessarily appreciate the overdose of syrupy sweetness here. Some roast malt aroma as well but there isn’t a whole lot of balance here. Bottle.
2.5 Sorry but this beer is just not that good. I know it's "cool" to like these exotic flavors and such, and I do like quite a few but this is overpoweringly sweet and over carbonated. -via BBapp
3.4 Botella de 355ml. Vaso Nonic. Nonic glass. Pours dark brown in color, with mahogany tints to the light. Tan head leaves a thin layer on top as dissipates. Some lacings are left. Aromas of sweet roasted malts, caramel notes, hints of syrup & dried nuts as well as coffee & chocolate hues. Flavor profile -as expected from aromas- displays caramel & roasted notes, chocolate & coffee infusion touched by herbal sweet syrup. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Silky palate & dried mouthfeel. As it warms, maple syrup increases & lingers into a sweet finish in combination with arising dried nut sensations. Sweetness reaches the edge of cloying but slightly roasted notes & nuttiness hold it back. Interesting Porter that makes me miss a hot Pecan Pie!!
4.1 Bottle in variety pack. One of better Sam’s in pack. Definite maple syrup overtones. Better than expected
4.2 From bottle. Amazing aroma that reminds me of pecans baking in brown sugar. The sweetness and bite are balanced well. I went into this beer with low expectations and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Good beer to mix into the night but not one that would be a "main" beer of the night.
3.3 Bottle. Roasty pecan, light maple, and chocolate/coffee aroma. Deep mahogany with a large beige head. Roasty coffee, astringent nuts, and very light maple flavor. Body on the light side of medium, moderate carbonation.
3.2 Dark brown with light tan head. Sweetness in the aroma and taste. A little nutty. Smooth with a very slightly bitter finish.
3.5 Poured very dark brown, almost black with an off-white head. Aroma is coffee and toast. Taste is slightly sweet and nutty with a smooth finish.
